Climate change Act for the Balearic Islands
On the 12th of February 2019, the Parliament of the Balearic Islands has approved the Act on Climate Change and Energy Transition. The act has a long term goal to ban the use of fossil fuels by 2050. The long-term goal will be reached by complying with ambitious goals with a shorter time horizon:
• From 2025 onwards, diesel cars and motorbikes will be banned from the roads of the Balearic Islands. Exemption for existing diesel vehicles registered in the region before 2025.
• From 2035 onwards, polluting cars, motorbikes, vans and mini-vans will be banned from the roads of the Balearic Islands. Exemption for vehicles registered in the region before 2035.
• Progressively force car rental companies to include zero emissions vehicles in their fleets: starting with 2% in 2020 up to 100% by 2035.
• 401 charging points in the Balearic Islands today, many of them accessible with public transport smart card.
• 238 underground parking slots in Palma for E-vehicles.

Interurban buses (3 operators from 2020)
The public transport authority, CTM, is currently
tendering all regional bus services of Mallorca. The
tender documents require future operators to
introduce electric buses on the busiest routes in the
coastal areas.
CTM is promoting the use of CNG buses by the future
operators of regional buses by ensuring CNG supply
infrastructure at bus depots and awarding bids with
lower overall emissions.
