Session 3 “THE BREACH OF SIN & SALVATION”


God is PERSONAL


“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8


It’s not just about Theology… It’s God’s personal story. His plan for His creation…

…humankind’s rejection of that plan… …and God’s plan for restoration to the intended plan


The term “Gospel” in it’s entomological structure

means “Good News”


God’s Love is a theme carried throughout this study


His love in seen in His original plan for humankind


His love is seen when we were still separated and enemies of His

“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more,

having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” Romans 5:10


His love is seen in how He paid unfathomable price to restore us

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

John 3:16

“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising

the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2


God designed men and women in His image

“God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Genesis 1:27


God gave them dominion over the earth

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have

dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 1:28


God provided for them

– for their food –

“And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields

seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.”

Genesis 1:29,30


God provided for them

– and for their covering –

“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed”

Genesis 2:25


God gave them productive work to do

“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” Genesis 2:15


God was in relationship and communion

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day...”

Genesis 3:8a


Everything that God did was “very good”

“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”

Genesis 1:31


Eve was deceived

“And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression” 1 Timothy 2:14


Adam flat-out disobeyed

“...She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.” Genesis 3:6b


They tried to cover themselves

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”

Genesis 3:7


They hid from God

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from

the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Genesis 3:8–10


They pointed fingers and started casting blame

“Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord

God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Genesis 3:12,13


Our Fallen State Every person stands guilty before God and separated from Him.

• Spiritual and physical death reigns Romans 3:23; 6:23a; 5:12; 5:14 • The earth (our environment) has been corrupted Romans 8:20–22

– causing work and sustenance to be difficult Genesis 3:17–19 • It has the affects of difficulty in relationships Genesis 3:12,13

…and to the woman He said: Genesis 3:16b

– Jealousy and murder entered the picture Genesis 4:8

• Physical pain began – pain in childbirth Genesis 3:16a • Their dominion was forfeited Luke 4:6, John 14:30


God’s plan for restoration and redemption

Immediately following Adam and Eve’s sin God brought a partial revelation of His intent to restore:

1 the devil would be crushed by woman’s offspring Genesis 3:15

2 God exchanged their self-made coverings with garments of skin. Genesis 3:21



The Son laid aside rightful, eternal glory and became man

“who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form

of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became

obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:6–8



He lived a sinless life

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all

points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15



He suffered brutally and was crucified as the terrible price for all sin

Isaiah 53:3–12; Colossians 1:22



He was raised from the dead

“This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.” Acts 2:32



“He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ

to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will” Ephesians 1:4,5


More than just eternal salvation…

In Ephesians 1 we see:

we’re blessed with every spiritual blessing, chosen, holy, blameless, adopted,

redeemed, forgiven, issued an inheritance sealed with the Holy Spirit, offered spiritual power and authority
