Lovelines Volume 5 The Christian Homes for Children, Inc. Newsletter SUMMER 2014

Founder: George M. Brown, Ph.D.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.

I will say of the Lord he is my refuge and my fortress my God in him will I trust.” Psalms 91:1-2

Jomardrick Wilcox, pictured left, was rescued from abuse and neglect by Christian Homes for Chil-

dren as a toddler. After witnessing a CHFC recruitment presentation at her congregation, Julia Wil-

cox of the Goulds Church of Christ, could not turn a deaf ear. So, she flung open her arms and her

heart to Jomardrick and five more battered tots. Later, she

placed her hands in God’s hands while contemplating the monu-

mental decision of adopting all six of her children despite the

loss of her husband. We thank the CHFC community for stand-

ing with Julia, her son Jomardrick, and the rest of his precious

family for more than twenty years. Because of your unwavering support, we are able to

report that Jomardrick Wilcox has been selected “Mr. Mainland” by the student body of

Mainland High School located in the Volusia County school district. As “Mr. Mainland,”

Jomardrick maintains an excellent grade point average, represents his school to underclass-

men via recruitment events, hosts school prep rally’s and homecoming soirees and is liter-

ally the face and voice of his high school. However, Jomardrick tells us that “all of these

achievements pale in comparison to the day I gave my heart and soul to Jesus Christ.” What

a joy to witness his testimony offered through songs of praise and worship at CHFC Annual

Participation Dinners.

Early in the year, Jomardrick, who now attends the Holly Hill church of Christ along

with our founder Dr. George Brown, literally brought us to tears when he sent a $500 dona-

tion in memory of a deceased loved one in support of this work. Surely, the Christian

Homes for Children tree continues to bear good fruit.

There are many ministries that do good work but few more important to God than car-

ing for his orphans. “It is religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father.” James

1:27 Will you set aside a monthly gift of love for his precious ones, and begin by mailing

your first donation today? Mary Menzies, Writer & George M. Brown, Editor

You are invited to attend the next ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING

on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the

Driftwood Church of Christ 2640 North 72nd Avenue

Hollywood, FL 33024

Meeting begins promptly at 7 p.m. Light refreshment will be served!!

Forecasters predicted more than a sixty percent chance of rain on Saturday, March 29. Yet, organizers of the 26th Annu-

al Cookout for Kids remained undeterred. J4L (Jesus for Life) youth representing the Homestead Church of Christ arrived

at the event to declare that prayer changes things! But not before the All Star Champs (volunteers from the Palm Beach

Lakes Church of Christ) put up event signs and blew up balloons while predicting a volleyball tournament victory in Jesus’

name. The Hialeah Church’s Jamba Crew - comprised of Bobcats from the St. Thomas University soccer team and CHFC

youth - served drinks to cookout guests, sliced

onions and tomatoes, managed tables and seat-

ing and helped sort toys for abused and neglect-

ed children. Meanwhile, Lads To Leaders and

Leaderettes from the Miami Gardens Church of

Christ dazzled event participants and lifted spir-

its with their positive energy and enthusiasm.

But it was the courage and determination of the

West Broward Church of Christ youth group

that gripped the hearts of many guests for they

struggled to overcome and take fourth place in

this year’s volleyball tournament.

When all was said and done, over $8077.50

was raised for abused children. The Hialeah

congregation seized victory from last year’s un-

defeated team to take home the first place trophy

while the Miami Gardens team proved resilient

and almost unstoppable in their quest—only to

earn second place. Meanwhile, the Palm Beach

Lakes faithful is vowing to execute a stunning comeback from this year’s third place finish. We thank the entire Christian

Homes for Children community for continuing to stand with us in defense of the fatherless! God Bless You.

Need help with establishing a lasting legacy for God’s children? Please call us at 305-825-0517 or email us at [email protected].
