Love’s Notes

Greetings! I am very excited to be addressing you in my first newsletter as your pastor. Marilynn and I are honored and humbled to be your new clergy family!

The graciousness of the congregation on our first Sunday was overwhelming. Thank you so much for expressing you love and good wishes to us.

I am looking forward to working together with Christ Church’s leadership and congregation to make a difference for Christ and His Kingdom in this community through our church’s ministries and outreach. I am certain that you know the mission statement of the United Methodist Church, which is: “To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” When we see and use the word “world” in that statement it may seem like a daunting scope for us both as individual Christians and even as a Christ-following congregation. But in reality, the “world” starts with the individual next to us. So, if in our personal witness for Jesus Christ, we make a difference in the life of the person next to us, then we actually have begun the process of changing the world!

It’s sort of like the old question: “How do you eat an elephant?” And the answer: “One bite at a time”. Together, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, let us launch out to reach the “world” for Christ, starting with the neighbor next to us. Thanks for your warm reception of us. Marilynn and I look forward to years of fellowship and ministry together with you. Pastor Todd

Vacation Bible School 2018 Summary We had a wonderful week of Vacation Bible School this year. The building was alive with the sound of the children and volunteers who took part in this program. Shipwrecked! Rescued by Jesus was a wonderful week filled with the sounds of children’s laughter and songs.

There were 75 children who participated in the program. There were also 47 Adult Volunteers and 12 Youth volunteers who faithfully served each evening. A special shout out to the Youth this year…they were amazing and an incredible asset to the program. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who made it such a successful week!

A special shout out this year to Paulette Wells who took on multiple assignments and Angie Gordon who did ALL of the painting. The many donations of both food and needed supplies, received from church members, were gratefully received and were an enormous help as we prepared for the program. Thank you for your generosity!

Grade Bible Presentations: We will be presenting Bibles to our 3

rd grade students at both services on Sunday, August 5

th.

Please join us in congratulating Isabelle Orr, Matthew Berry & Evan Thompson as they reach this significant milestone! If you know of a rising third grader that is not on this list, please let me know!

Our annual End of Summer Pool Party will be held on Sunday, August 5th

at Southland Pool from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. This evening is a time to mark the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. All members of our church family are invited to attend. Come and fellowship with other adults or bring your swimsuit and JUMP IN! Pizza, snacks and drinks are provided. Please note, the pavilion/picnic area will not be available for our use this year, so we will be on the pool deck. ROCK (Reaching Out to Christ’s Kids) is our Sunday program for children ages 3 years through 2

nd grade. We meet each week during the 11:00 a.m. worship service. A typical Sunday includes

singing, a Bible story, a puppet skit, snack and a craft.

Christ Church’s Nursery provides a safe and loving place to grow. The nursery is available

during both worship services on Sunday morning and during the Sunday School hour for the

benefit of children under the age of 3.

A Special Thank You to our landscaping crew

who have spent countless hours making our entry ways and prayer garden

beautiful this summer.

Message from Melissa

Page 5

June was such an amazing month at Christ Church. Between all the excitement of VBS and changing pastors, I hope that you have found and created time to be with Jesus.

Guess Who’s Coming to Supper: The Love Edition Look for the poster at church to sign up to either host or attend a dinner party with the Loves and a few other families from church. If you would like to host, choose a Friday or Sunday evening NOT on the poster. If you would like to at-tend, pick a date, mark an X for every person who will attend, and fill out the form. This will be a great way to get to know Todd and Marilynn a little bit, as well as to spend time with some other people from the church you might not normally see.

Brandermill Breakaway During the month of July, the Journey class will be hosting a weekly dinner with recreation, and Bible stories at the Brandermill apartments. We are so excited to hear stories from them about what God does through this neat way to serve our immediate community!

Cave Mill Cookout Our annual event is such a wonderful way to bring people to the church to get to know us a little… but it takes all hands! Please be thinking about how you could serve this year. We particularly need people to head up the following committees: clean up/trash, kitchen/serving, water, parking, and security. Our next planning meeting is July 24 at 6:30pm and anyone is welcome to attend.

Handbell Choir Gauging interest: I’m toying with the idea of having a handbell choir during the month of August. If you would be

interested in participating in that, please email [email protected] and let me know!

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty

and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed

me...” Matthew 25:35

On Saturday, June 2nd

, thirty seven members of our

congregation volunteered to work with this wonderful

food ministry. Together we prepared, packed, and

delivered food to well over 300 of our neighbors in need

of food. In addition to our regular routes we deliver, we

also shared hot meals with some of the homeless

population here in Bowling Green. CUMC will once

again be in charge of this local mission project on

Saturday, September 1st. Please mark your calendars

and join us then. If you have any questions or need

additional information about this ministry, please call
