Greetings from Mending Hearts Mending Hearts has received a large donation of usable
fabrics to be used for Prayer Squares, Quilts or Teddy
Bears. We need YOU to help with cutting and if able,
sewing either with your own machine at home or sewing at
the church with our group.
Our newest challenge was to get ‘anything’ (100 Prayer Squares, 13 Quilts
and many Bears) to Louisiana. They were then added to a large container
with medical supplies to go to Christian Churches in Malawi, Africa.
The next shipment will leave in November for Israel. If you want to be part
of God’s work...please come and visit us. We meet the 1st & 3rd Thursday
of every month in Miller Hall from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Schedule for Children Sunday mornings - 9:30 a.m.
Children come into the Sanctuary and leave after Children’s Time to go
to Rm. 205/206 of the Family Life Center (age 3 through 5th grade).
We have a sign-in and sign-out process for parents each week to
ensure security of the children. Following the worship service, please
be prompt when picking up your child in Rm. 205/206 (see map below)

Family Room Available
Our Family Room is located next door to Miller Hall and is for families
in need of an area where infants and toddlers can play while parents
watch our Sunday worship services via live stream. Parents must
accompany their child while in our Family Room as there will be no
church staff in the room to supervise them. Pre-K through Youth are
invited to attend our Sunday School program.
Sewing 4 Kids
Good Morning…..One of us will be around all summer to welcome any volunteers to our group. We are using these months to shop for supplies and patterns and trying to find new projects that we can make for our Christmas give-a-way.
We never sell our items; they are all made with love and given to the needy. The sewing, knitting and crocheting never stops. Please stop by our table in Miller Hall today to see the samples we are displaying.

Stephen Ministers ~ the After People
People often ask, “What exactly is a Stephen Minister?”
One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are
the After People.
Stephen Ministers are there:
...after the phone call you hoped you’d never get.
...after the divorce papers are served and the bottom falls out
of your life.
...after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions
you’ve held at bay come crashing in on you.
...after the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more
we can do.”
...after the nursing home director shakes your hand and
says, “Welcome to your new home.”
...after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away
and the house suddenly seems empty.
...after the gavel goes down, the handcuffs go on, and your
loved one is led away.
...after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you
ever dreamed possible.
...after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck.
...after your family and friends have heard the story one too
many times, but you still need to talk it out.
Stephen Ministers are the “After People.” They are ready to come alongside you - or your friends, neighbors, co-workers, or relatives - and provide comfort and support for as long after as needed.

RALPHS has supported the communities in
Southern California since 1873 and continues to
make our communities a better place to work and
live.
The Academy of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian
Church is currently enrolled in Ralph’s rebate program
that helps support the preschool’s financial aid fund,
assisting families in financial need. The Academy would
like to thank all the PDCPC members who currently
participate in this program - over $1100 was donated to the
preschool in the 2016/2017 school year! The Academy would
also like to encourage all others who even occasionally shop
at Ralphs, to sign up. You sign up on line or by phone…
that’s all you do. It’s that simple. Then every time you shop
at Ralphs, a percentage of what you spend is donated to the
school.
Participants are required to register or re-register for the
new term starting September 1, 2017. Even if you
registered as recently as August 31, you must register
again on OR after September 1st .

Greetings from your Missions Committee. We continue to provide profiles on
the 13 International Missions that Palm Desert Community Presbyterian
Church supports. This week we are highlighting the HANDS OF LUKE, Medi-
cal Ministries, Inc.
HANDS OF LUKE Medical Ministries was founded in 1988 by Dr. Marco
Samaniego, Dave Reagan and Buddy Ball when the Lord gave them a vision to
help the underprivileged people of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and El
Paso, Texas. Their mission is to fulfill the needs of the underprivileged, just as
Jesus Christ showed us in Matthew 25: 35-40. On April 10, 2016, the beloved
and Founder and Director of 28 years, Dr. Marco A. Samaniego, passed onto
heavenly glory. His wife, Carmen, is now the Director of Hands of Luke.
Along with the assistance of their adult children, the Samaniego family contin-
ues serving the Lord through Hands of Luke Medical Ministries, Inc.
Hands of Luke Medical Ministries is involved in many outreaches in the bor-
der cities of El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Monday
through Friday they feed 500 – 600 children before they go to school. For
some of these children, it is their only meal of the day. The Medical Ministry is
a big part of the ministry. It is allowing doctors to have an opportunity to serve,
using the talents God has given them. It maintains a fully equipped medical
office and pharmacy. This allows the ministry to fill one of the most pressing
needs of this area – medical care for the underprivileged. At the same time it
provides the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with people who
need help. Most patients are referred to us by the local Christian Community.
The Casa De Esperanza, or “ House of Hope” is a Children’s Home opened in
1988. It houses 55 children, ages 6 – 17 years old. Most of the children are
brought there because they have no family or their family cannot provide for
them. The home provides 3 meals a day, a clean bed and a nice, warm place to
stay in a Christian family atmosphere. Many times, the children come to the
home undernourished and infected with parasites. As God permits, they begin
to minister to their needs. The word of God is shared with them and they are
taught to walk with him daily. They also attend the closest public school; the
ones unable to attend for any reason are taught at the home. Matthew 25:40
Finally, The Hands of Luke established the Instituto Biblico, Bible Institute. It
was started from a vision that God gave Dr. Marco as he saw so many un-
trained pastors and church leaders. They have received the calling to serve God
and lead, but they do not have the financial means to pay for their schooling,
while working full-time and raising a family. These classes are offered free of
charge and dinner is also provided between classes. The classes are all led by
qualified professors. 56 students have graduated with a diploma in Theology
after completing 60 hours - equal to 20 credits. They are academically
supported and accredited by the Baptist University of the Americas in
San Antonio, TX and are an extension of that university in Juarez, MX.
