A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR TIM

Hi Church Family,

I don’t know if you are like me, but I’m experiencing ‘screen-fatigue’! Looking at screens for several hours a day and connecting with so many people on screens while social distancing has created new challenges for all of us. We’re asking questions like,

“How do we communicate well on-screen to people we are used to seeing physically?”;

“How can we give people virtual hugs?”; and for those of us who are grandparents,

“How do we let those little ones know that we still love them even though we can be with them?”.

What a strange and challenging time we are in!

In the midst of all of this strangeness I have been contemplating what Heaven is like as we have been unpacking ‘Our Father in heaven…’ and ‘on earth as it is in heaven…’ in the Lord’s Prayer. I was reminded of how much we don’t know about heaven and how we “see through a mirror dimly…”, (1 Cor. 13:9-12). Maybe we can identify with that as we are now seeing through a ‘screen’ dimly.

I know that may be stretching things a little, but we are all anticipating the time when we can meet face to face, again sitting with a cup of coffee or tea and just enjoying one another. Imagine the prospect of coming face to face with the Lord Jesus and all the saints who have gone before us.

Heaven is going to be an amazing place where the King will be ruling completely in His kingdom, and we will be at peace with Him forever. Now that is something to anticipate! I trust that as we explore more about the Kingdom of God today that it will be an encouragement and blessing to you. I also hope that it will be helpful in encouraging your anticipation of the future ‘not yet’ aspect of the kingdom of heaven! Let’s allow God to use His Word to speak to us as we study the words of Christ when He taught us how to pray. I look forward to connecting with you online today as we continue this series on The Lord’s Prayer.

Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outsidethe camp some distance away, calling it the“tent of meeting.”

Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent.

As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent.

The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as onespeaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Annual General Meeting -On Sunday the 24th of May we will be having our Annual General Meeting. The meeting will be held digitally at some point after our morning service. Details will be released soon

Playgroups - Our kids ministry team has done an amazing job of piecing together playgroup episodes for each week for the school term we are currently in. These episodes have been uploaded to our youtube channel (with some special help from Caleb Folkes), and accompanied by craft packs that have been delivered to many to playgroup families who requested them. Families have been able to tune in, watch the episode and do the craft from home. This has been an amazing ministry to our local community

The focus of Jesus in His short time of ministry was preaching, living and modeling the Gospel of the Kingdom. As we pray ‘Your Kingdom come…’, we are asking God to help us to be faithful in living his kingdom principles and following Christ’s model in our own lives. As we live in that way, we help

to build the kingdom through the way we speak and live in the world.

Hello Suburban Church,

We certainly hope that you are all well and are managing during this time of isolation. We are both doing well and are both here in Australia but are especially yearning to get back to Vanuatu as soon as we possibly can.

You see, while the rest of the world has been focused on Covid19 (and toilet paper) – the group of islands known as Vanuatu in the Pacifi c has been hit by a Category 5 cyclone. Cyclones are a way of life in Vanuatu but while that is true it’s very hard to see the people suffer. There has been widespread damage and some loss of life in the Northern areas.

Generally, village homes are easy to rebuild but the crops in their gardens (which they rely on for food daily) are not. In the very remote areas where we work, you can’t just pop down to the local store and top up on supplies. There are small village shops that do stock some essential items like rice, tuna, two-minute noodles and other long-life products but these shops rely on cargo ships to bring supplies to the islands. So many of Vanuatu’s cargo ships in the northern islands were badly damaged and it will take some time before they can be repaired, reloaded and sailing.

There are no recorded cases of Coronavirus in Vanuatu. Because of concerns about Covid19 being brought in, international aid to has been restricted to just Australian and New Zealand Air Force planes carrying emergency food, water, medical and other equipment. NGO organizations like ours are not permitted to enter the country. It could be quite some time before we are allowed back in. While we fully understand the serious implications if Covid19 did spread to Vanuatu, it is very diffi cult to be sitting here not being able to do much about it.

We have been in touch with each of our missionaries and their organizations and we were very pleased to hear they are all safe and well AND the homes we built for them are intact. So too are our school and kindergarten buildings! There is however a lot of damage to other buildings, where thecommunity could really use our help. For instance, one local medical center in north Ambrym has had it roof blown off, the community building where one of our missionaries records all of his bible translations has lost its roof, one of the schools where we replaced a roof after cyclone Pam 2015 hasnow had the roof of another building damaged by a falling tree and this list goes on.

We were VERY humbled to receive a message from a local woman after the cyclone had passed and communications re-established. Megamone school was used as an evacuation centre during the cyclone by three whole villages.

We are doing what we can to help remotely: Working on material lists, with the help of the missionaries on the ground, taking pictures and measurements, as well as other things.

While aid in the form already mentioned has come and is very useful, our concern is about rebuilding structures to cyclone standards to future proof them. Local homes are not the issue here. The local Ni Vanuatu are very resourceful and most (if not all) have rebuilt their sleeping house, their bush kitchen from locally sourced materials. We lost our bungalow – built by local men but thankfully, most of our belongings were removed. It will be rebuilt sometime in the future.

The planned Townville project is also on hold at this time. We will try to keep you all updated as best we can.

We just want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who are supporting us through prayer and fi nance. We undertand that everyone is doing it tough so we really appreciate your generosity to us. Jo is working one day a week at the Epworth hospital and is doing Ian some minor building and carpentry work. Like so many of you, we are trying fi ll the rest of our days with gardening, tidying up, and odd jobs that never seem to get done.

Our Church plant, Sojourners, that God would bless them and grow them for His glory. That they would be protected from illness and that they would grow in unity during this time

That people do not feel disconnected without their normal weekly routines

For the people in our city who do not know Jesus as Saviour. Pray that they come to know him as Lord

Praying as a church is always important and now more than ever we need to join together in prayer. Below is a guide of things and people that we

At the end of the week talk to someone over facetime about how you went with praying for these things each day. Ask how it helped or changed their prayer life. Ask if it helped them to feel connected to the church

community. Ask if the guide helped to focus their prayer life
