smartwood® shutters

Apollo’s range of Smartwood® Louvre Shutters are strong, hard wearing, suitable for most areas and some are suitable for external use. They come in two ranges Ecowood and Duratec.

aluminium shutters

Apollo Aluminium Shutters are suitable for interior and exterior use. Being of aluminium construction with a chip resistant powder coating, Aluminium Shutters can span wider areas than traditional shutters, giving a clearer uninterrupted view.

This is a very versatile Shutter made by combining the lightweight framing strength, stability and thermal properties of Western Red Cedar and the tough, durable, economical properties of a polymer blade.

By using a complete Western Red Cedar mainframe (top & bottom rails and side stiles) along with reinforced (aluminium insert) PVC blades this creates the perfect all round solution for inside and out. Other PVC Shutters on the market just can’t hold up over time due to the joining process used with simple screws. They begin to sag very quickly.

The Cedar frame offers the most stable timber joint possible via a mortice and tenon join.

western red cedar shutters

Nothing matches the charm, smell or features of Apollo Cedar Shutters. Made from genuine Western Red Cedar they are lightweight yet strong.

Western Red Cedar (Thuja Plicata) is classed as a softwood and comes from the Cypress family of trees.

Cedar Shutters are available in blends of light to medium and medium to dark. They can be ordered with an oiled or painted finish as standard. The Western Red Cedar comes from Canada, is a medium density timber that is very lightweight and also offers the best thermal properties (insulation) of all timber types. Cedar is not recommended for use in high traffic areas, or places that are prone to be bumped or knocked regularly. There will be some natural colour, wood grain and texture variation throughout.

Western Red Cedar is treated with a U.V. stabilised single-pack lacquer. However, lacquer finish is for interior use only.

Oiled Cedar should be used for exterior or a special external paint finish can be applied on request.

Basswood shutters

Basswood (Tilia Americana) is classed as a hardwood and comes from the Linden family of trees. Basswood is naturally a medium density timber and as such is ideal for Blinds and Shutters, being neither too heavy nor too light, but still offers a reasonable amount of hardness, thus giving a good resistance to knocks and bumps. It has been selected especially for use in Blinds and Shutters due to its many qualities, including its resistance to bowing and warping when kiln dried. The timber is kiln dried to about 10% moisture, thus reducing the incidence of movement.

Ecowood

Apollo’s PVC is made from polymer foam. It is a solid, non-toxic, synthetic material.

It has many excellent characteristics such as being light weight, flame retardant, chemical resistant, waterproof and thermal properties. It also has great sound, insulation and damping properties.

It is ideal for both internal and external applications such as bathrooms, laundries, kitchens and outside balconies or patio areas.

The 64, 89 and 114mm blades are all re-enforced with an aluminium rod insert.
