National Character Weekend

The Kentucky Wing is hosting a National Character Weekend activity that will serve to motivate cadets to take seriously the issues of character and honor, while recom-mitting themselves to the drug-free ethic. This program replaced the Cadet Academy that we have traditionally offered in the fall. The news is filled with stories on lapses of moral character. Performance enhancing drugs bench-ing sports stars. Grade inflation and cheating at school. Cheating on tests by USAF nuclear crews. Embezzlement and creative accounting on Wall Street. National Charac-ter Day is an opportunity for CAP to showcase our pro-character and anti-drug messages to cadets. The curricu-lum offers something for everyone – Senior Members, Cadet Officers and NCOs, and brand new Cadets alike. Further, it is hoped that National Character Day will moti-vate cadets to be the leaders of character needed in the Red Ribbon Leadership Academy. POC is the KYWG Drug Demand Reduction Administrator, Capt Angela Felts, who may be reached [email protected] mail-to:[email protected].

Deputy Commanders for Cadets, Cadet Program Officers and Drug Demand Reduction Officers are encouraged to volunteer for instructor staff.

These activities will be at the Harry S. Frazier Scout Res-ervation (Camp Crooked Creek) located near Knobs State Forest from November 11th - 13th. Arrival time is between 1700-1900 eastern time with graduation on Sunday at 1400. Orientation Flights are being scheduled out of Sam-uels Field in Bardstown for all eligible cadets. Cost of this event is only $20.00 per participant. Uniform of the Day is BDU's for Cadets and the BDU's, B/BDU's or polo for SM's. SM's who desire to stay offsite may do so at their own expense. Sleeping bags (we are staying indoors), personal hygiene kits, personal medication, PT clothing/Tennis Shoes (Cadets required/SM's encouraged) and shower shoes are required for all participants. CAPF-31 (CAPF-17 for SM's) and CAPF-161 are due by November the 7th. The forms are found at Caution-https://www.capmembers.com/forms_publications__regulations/forms/ <https://www.capmembers.com/forms_publications__regulations/forms/ > .

These forms and payment (check made out to the Ken-tucky Wing, Civil Air Patrol) need to be mailed to the un-dersigned at the following address: Maj Cory Felts, 6919 Glen Lily Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101-7858 or emailed to [email protected] < Caution-mailto:[email protected] > with unit funds transfers complete by the same date. As the Activity Director, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Kentucky Wing Encampment

The dates for the 2017 Kentucky Wing Encampment are 18-25 June 2017. This activity is returning to the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center, in Greenville, KY. I have already begun making contacts with Military units to support us for this activity. At this time, I am not going to divulge my plans or the schedule, but I can promise you, the Cadets of Kentucky Wing, that if all goes as I envision.... this will be an encampment to remem-ber.....so please.... If you have never been to an encampment....plan on being there... If you have been to encampment.... consider applying for staff....... If you have been there and done that... consider the advanced en-campment this year...it may be unlike anything you have ever expe-rienced... If you are a Senior Member and think that there is nothing to gain from the encampment experience...come see what we have to of-fer... At this time I am formally announcing that the applications are being accepted for the Cadet Executive Staff. We are filling the following positions: Cadet Commander ....Must be at least a C/Maj by encampment Cadet Deputy Commander.... Must be at least C/Capt by encamp-ment Cadet Exec Officer....Must be at least C/Capt by encampment Cadet First Sergeant...... Must be C/CMSgt by encampment If you feel you are qualified and would like to apply, please forward me an email with your letter of intent and a brief resume describing your qualifications. I will then meet with all applicants at each groups Joint Training Assemblies between December and February. From that point, applications will be accepted to fill 3 Squadron Commander and 6 Flight Sgt positions. The Squadron / Flight Com-mander as well as the Flight Sgt position for the 4th (Advanced En-campment) will be determined latter from those who are eligible and apply for those positions.

I will also be looking to recruit several Cadet NCO's / officers and

Seniors for the Instructor Staff. So if you would like to attend en-

campment and teach.... this will be a great opportunity.

I also am going to require the assistance of Seniors to fill the posi-

tions of TAC officers. I will need at least 1 Tac from officer for each

flight to include at least 1 Female Senior member. For any of you

wishing to help with this role.....Please just respond to me at mri-

[email protected] mailto:[email protected] with your contact

information. I will provide more information to you privately.
