A brand-new, extremely comfortable LED light source lies at the
heart of this spectacular Louis Poulsen product.
Louis Poulsen developed the Silverback wall and ceiling light in
close cooperation with the KiBiSi designer group. The light sets
new standards for the integration of lighting in architecture.
Silverback has a classic shape but an innovative construction – from
the outside, to the core.

Through its ingenious design, Silverback propagates the background surface in
the fixture, thereby softening the boundary between the fixture and the
mounting surface. They blend into each other, making the fixture appear
narrower visually than it actually is.
This soft transition has been achieved by making the rear metallised half of the
fixture semitransparent. Light can thus passes through the rear half, creating a
neutral illumination of the backing surface, but the metallisation also allows this
surface to be reflected in the fixture – both in its lit and unlit state. This results in
a morphing effect which visually connects the structure of the backing surface
with the rear side of the product, making the fixture’s interface invisible.
The effect creates greater coherence between the lighting and the materials and
surfaces of the building.
The effect also expands the fixture’s potential areas of application. The fixture
grows into the surfaces of the room, so to speak.
Silverback blends with the architecture
Opal acrylic prevents
uncomfortable glare and
provides an even light
expression without LED dots.
The rear housing can be easily
installed on either a wall or
ceiling.Easy access to technical
components, including the
driver.
Subdued surface luminance
when lit gives the product a
3D effect and character.
Accentuates the product’s
shape.
Specially designed LED board
ensures ideal illumination of
both the fixture’s shape and
the surroundings. Easy to affix
to the rear housing.
Silverback has an extremely harmonic
design, almost superlative aesthetics.
Its spectacular construction, with its
reflective rear side and specially designed
LED light source, makes the product
harmonic in its lit and unlit states and
amplifies the design when lit.
The high-efficiency LEDs have been made
glare-free by placing them at just the right
distance from the diffuser’s opal surface,
down to millimetre precision. Not only is
there an extremely even illumination of the
surface, the light source design also takes
into account the shape of the fixture. The
light intensity has also been carefully
regulated to eliminate any uncomfortable
glare.
The LED light source has been designed so
that a reduction in the intensity of the light at
the surface’s point of inflexion results in a
subdued luminance which clearly and
decoratively accentuates the fixture’s
harmonic shape when lit.

Light concept: The fixture emits diffused light. The opal curved diffuser provides soft and comfortable spatial lighting and the metallised semitransparent rear side of the product produces a decorative halo-like illumination of the ceiling or wall surface. The metallised surface also creates a mirror effect, reflecting the texture, colour or material of the installation surface.
Surface: White opal and alu-metallised.
Material: Die-stamped steel sheet, powder coated, white. Diffuser: Opal pMMa and semi- metallised pC.
Mounting: Terminal strip: 1x5x2,5mm². Cable access: 2 at rear, Ø 19mm. looping: approved, max. 5x1,5mm².
Weight: Max. 3kg.
Class: protection class ip20, insulation class i.
