Louis Browne Louis was born in Athlone. H e completed his studies at the G uildhall School of Music and Drama in London and enjoyed the distinction of being engaged by Glynebourne Festival Opera and later joined the Sadler's Wells Opera Company as principal tenor for 10 years.

Louis Browne's television work has included appearances as so loist in Melodies for You and Music f or You fo r BBC and the role of C ount A lma viva in The Barber of Seville.

H e has many radio broadcasts to his credit both on BBC and RTE. H e has toured extensively all over Britain and the C ontinent singing all the major roles in opera, light opera and Gilbert & Sullivan and he has wo rked with many famous conductors including Sir C harles Groves, Sir Alexander Gibson and Sir C olin D avis.

O n his return to Ireland Louis was invited to sing on the opening night of the National Concert H all by RTE and appears there regularly in his own productions.

H e has just been honoured by the Vocal H eritage of Ireland with the J ohn McCormack Medal for 1997 for his contribution to the vocal arts.

His latest CD and Tape on C hart C H C D 032, Louis Browne: Ireland's Favourite Tenor is on sale in leading record shops.

Alison Roddy Alison was born in Dublin and began her s tudies at the C ollege of Music with Evelyn Dowling, and subsequently at the Leinster O pera Studio. She has also studied in Goth en burg, Sweden, and the J uilliard School, N ew York, with the renowned Professor O ren Brown, and from 1996 will be a member of the postgraduate opera course at the Royal College of Music, London.

Alison has sung the roles of Frasquita, Carmen (Dublin, N C H ), C upid, Orpheus in the Underworld (Cork Opera H ouse), the title role in The Merry Widow, Bess in Porgy & Bess (Dublin ) and Frasquita, Carmen at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, Canada. Work with RTE includes the soprano solos in Carmina Burana and Ru tter's Magnificat (both nation­wide broad~asts) . Alison has also appea red on numerous occas ions wit h DGOS/ Opera Ireland.

Among her awards are the John McCormack Golden Voice Award 1994, the Robert McCullough Bursary, and the McCormack Gold Medal.

She has recently sung in New Zealand and has been invited back fo r some more operatic performances. We wish her great success on the in tern a­tional stage.

Patrick Healy Patrick was bo rn and educated in Dublin where he began his musical studies.

After winning several competi t ions at the Dublin Feis Ceoil, he went to

Rome where he stud ied with the famo us Italian soprano To ti de! M onti. H e is now a member of t he English Natio nal O pera, and loves to com­bine s inging and acco mpanying. H e is fas t gaining a reputation as a singing coach and prese nter o f concerts both here and in Britain.

M ost recently Patrick H ealy has bee n appointed Music D irector of the Magic of D'Oyly Carte, perfo rming concerts of G ilbert & Sullivan in Britain, Ireland and the U SA.

H e is currently working o n his own arrangements o f the fa mous Moore's Irish M elodies, which will be published later t his year.

H e looks fo rward to his annual presentation of The World of Gilbert & Sullivan in February 1998.

Aidan Faughey Aidan is a highly respected conductor in many areas of music, but specialises in the Viennese genre. He has con­ducted many such concerts at the National Concert Hall and has been resident conductor at the New Year's Eve Ball at the Berkley Court Hotel, Dublin. A idan is also a much sought-after cho rus master, winning national awards from AIMS for his wo rk on Christopher Columbus and Die Fledermaus.

Orchestra of

St. Cecilia

Formed in January 1995, the Orchestra of St. Cecilia has quickly established a fine reputation for the quality of its per­formances. Comprising professional musicians, it was first heard in the noted Bach Cantata series at St. Ann's Church, Dawson Street.

The success of these concerts led to the issue of a CD of can­tata highlights. As -well as providing a regular series of con­certs, the Orchestra has also appeared with choral societies at the National Concert Hall and in Carlow, Tullow, Castlebar and Tallaght. It appeared with the chamber choir, Madrigal '75 at the Cork Choral Festival. It will be participating later this year at the National Concert Hall and in a complete series of Mozart Piano Concertos with soloist Hugh Tinney.
