Losing Weight Fast Is the Easy Part

How many diets have you been on that you have been able to lose weight fast on? Whether it was a fad diet, low carb diet, the zone, a crash diet, with a diet supplement like maXreduce or even some crazy method or idea you picked up on Dr. Oz or any other daytime talk show - how many of them did you successfully lost weight on?

If you are honest with yourself the answer may actually surprise you. Some studies suggest that most people find do lose weight fast with most all of these methods. Face it, if none of these methods help you lose weight fast then you probably would have never heard about the particular method nor would you have tried the weight loss method to begin with.

How many of these plans or methods that helped you lose weight fast have you been successful with? You would not be reading this if the answer was not zero. So it turns out the hard part of any diet is not losing the weight fast but keeping it off in the long term.

The reason for 80% long term weight loss failure is all about goals and goal modification.

The first reason is because of the goal factor. Typically when we make the decision to lose weight we also decide on how much we either need to lose or want to lose. By doing this we have created a goal; a target; something to shoot for. If you have had any success in life in relationships or career you are well accustomed to setting that goal and doing the necessary steps to complete that goal. What happens when we reach that goal or do not have a goal? We wander; we meander; we do not really do anything.

Think about your weight loss goal like a runner thinks about running. Often times they start off with the goal to run their first 5k. When they accomplish this, then they will often make a goal of running further, or running faster, or running so many times during the week. Show me a runner without any specific goal and I will show you someone who probably has not gotten off the couch for the last 6 months.

You need to do the same with your weight loss goal, The first step is to set the goal amount you want to lose. Then pick any of the current hot or fad ideas that appeal to you to help you lose the weight fast.

Let's say that you are successful in losing the weight fast and you reach your goal. What is vital to your long term weight loss success is to set a new goal. Make it based on what your scale will show in 30, 60 or 180 days. Or make it eating related such as you will eat X amount of salads per week; you will only eat ice cream once per month. In other words tie the goal modification to something that either helped you lose weight fast and encourage the behavior or tie it to something that you know has hurt your long term

weight loss in the past (eating bad foods, drinking, etc). Then track yourself on this modified goal. If you say that you are going to only eat ice cream one Saturday in a given month then track on a calendar the days you do so you can keep yourself accountable.

It is only through the setting and continual modification of your weight loss goals that you will experience true, long term weight loss success.
