Do you remember how to form positive, informal commands (telling someone what to do)?
– Start with the “tú” form of the verb
– Drop the ‘-s’ off of the ending
Irregular commands
The 7 irregular positive commands are:
Hacer (haz) Ir (ve) Poner (pon) Salir (sal) Ser (sé) Tener (ten) Venir (ven)
How would you say…
Eat healthy food.– Come comida sana.
Play soccer every day.– Juega al fútbol todos los días.
Put the fork on the table.– Pon el tenedor en la mesa.
Do your homework.– Haz la tarea.

NEGATIVE COMMANDS
To tell someone what NOT to do, you should use negative, informal commands
Rules for formation: For most AR verbs:
– Start with the ‘yo’ form– Drop the final ‘o’ from the conjugated
verb– Add an ‘es’ to the verb.
For example: “COMPRAR”– Start with the ‘yo’ form: compro– Drop the ‘o’: compr– Add an ‘es’: no compres
“SALIR”– Start with ‘yo’
form: SALGO
– Drop the ‘o’: SALG
– Add an ‘as’: NO
SALGAS
“CORRER”– Start with ‘yo’
form: CORRO
– Drop the ‘o’: CORR
– Add an ‘as’: NO
CORRAS
For most IR and ER verbs:• Start with the ‘yo’ form
• Drop the final ‘o’ from the conjugated verb
• Add an ‘as’ to the verb.
IRREGULARS!!
There are only 3 verbs that you have to know have irregular negative commands:
–Dar (to give) no des– Ir (to go) no vayas–Ser (to be) no seas
PRACTICE!!!
Don’t eat a lot of fat.– No comas mucha grasa.
Don’t sleep late.– No duermas tarde.
Don’t smoke.– No fumes.
Don’t go to the party.– No vayas a la fiesta.
