PURPOSE: The purpose of this Reference Guide is to announce the 2014 Smarter Balanced Field

Test (SBFT) informational meetings for principals, California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Coordinators, and Technology Coordinators/Designees. The meetings will provide information on procedures for administering the computer-based Smarter Balanced Field Test.

MAJOR CHANGES:

• SBFT meetings will be offered as a face-to-face meeting presentation for principals, CAASPP Coordinators, and Technology Coordinators/Designees. A recorded version of the presentation will be made available.

• The SBFT informational meeting is separate from the mandatory 2014 CAASPP Training for principals and testing coordinators.

• All participants are required to self-register through the Learning Zone. GUIDELINES

I. BACKGROUND

Assembly Bill 484 (AB 484) was signed into law on October 2, 2013. The provisions of the new law took effect on January 1, 2014, and originally established the California Measurement of Academic Performance and Progress (CalMAPP) assessment system. However, the name of the new assessment system has recently changed to the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The CAASPP system replaces the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The computer-based Smarter Balanced Field Test falls under the new CAASPP system. In accordance with State regulations, districts are required to provide annual training to all test site coordinators who oversee the CAASPP test administration. Schools are responsible for providing annual training to test examiners, proctors, and scribes for administering the CAASPP tests.



II. 2014 SMARTER BALANCED INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS Two Smarter Balanced Field Test Informational Meetings have been scheduled. Principals, CAASPP Coordinators, and Technology Coordinators/Designees must register in the Learning Zone to attend one of the meetings. To access the recorded version of the presentation, participants will also need to register in the Learning Zone. Participants may attend the information meeting and/or view the recorded version of the presentation. The following information will be provided at the 2014 SBFT meeting:

III. REQUIRED ONLINE REGISTRATION PROCEDURES Principals, CAASPP Coordinators, and Technology Coordinators/Designees are required to self-register in one of the SBFT meetings listed below. The following chart outlines the registration information and the meeting dates and due dates.
