New Member class Pastor Jon invites you to a

New Member orientation class on either Sunday September 14th or September 21 from 1:30 - 3:30 PM in Luther Hall. We'll have

the chance to meet one another, discuss any questions, discuss LOL's history, and our hopes

for the future.

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, Thank you, thank you, thank you. This sabbatical time has been more life giving, and more formative for me than I could have ever imagined - - and I had high hopes & expectations going in to it! When I return September 2, I’m going to check the church calendar and schedule some catered meals so we can catch up; you can tell me how your summer was, and Renee & I can share with you some of our experiences (at these gatherings it will be the abbreviated version, anyone further interested I can follow up in small groups or individual time). Please reflect on the question, “Where did you see or experience God at work in your life, or in the life of the congregation?” As part of my sabbatical grant from the Lilly Foundation, I had requested funds to pay for these meals, so I envision sign up sheets up to 60 people, one gathering will be pizza & salad, another barbecue & fixings, a Mexican food meal and a chicken nuggets & French fries. This is for everyone so I do hope one of the soon to be determined times works for you. God has used this sabbatical period to re-connect me with the joy and excitement of my first call to seminary, and subsequent call to Lord of Life. I am a changed person, and I give God all the glory. Thank you for the time away. Thank you for your continued ministry in my absence, and thank you for those of you who took on additional responsibilities. Thank you, thank you, thank you. God’s peace, Pastor Jon & Renee

Beginning Sunday,

September 14 &

Tuesday, September 16

at 7pm all are invited to

a 4-week discussion on

the LORD’S PRAYER.

It has been two thousand years since Christ’s disciples asked their Lord and friend for a lesson on how to pray. Jesus responded with the words that have become the best-known prayer in history. This special prayer called “The Lord’s Pray-er” is found in two places in the Bible: Matthew 6:9-15 and Luke 11:2-4. To Jesus, prayer was not fancy words, a ritual or rehearsed monologue. To Jesus, prayer was a natural communication with his Father. Resource developed by Pastor Chip Borgstadt from Nebraska

will be used for this weekly one hour time together.

Prayerfully consider signing up for this opportunity.

( The classes are the same each week you just choose which

day you would like to attend.)

Thankfully at Lord of Life we have far more caregivers than simply the Pastor. We are blessed to have trained lay people to help provide care to hurting people. Here are several points to consider:

Jesus works in and through all Christians to provide care for His people. Certainly the pastor is an important caregiver, and he will remain so. In addition, however, God has called Stephen Ministers to share the congregation’s caregiving ministry. The pastors simply cannot provide all the care that people in our congregation need. God knows that, Pastor Jon and Elaine Krome, AiM, know that, and so the Holy Spirit has gifted other Christians to be caregivers in our congregation. Everyone who needs care is important in God’s eyes and in the eyes of our pastors. That is why we have Stephen Ministry, so that people can receive the care they need. More caregivers mean more care. Stephen Ministry is the congregation’s care just as the pastor’s care is. All of the caregivers in our congregation are expressions of God’s care for us and of our care for one another. No one will be forced or manipulated to accept care from a Stephen Minister. There is always the freedom to say yes or no to offers of care.

And finally:

If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God pro-vides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 4:11b

Call one of the Stephen Leaders for confidential information regarding the role Stephen Ministers play in providing care. They are: Mitzi Dube 705-2416 Donna Myers 705-9199 Elaine Krome, AIM

Blessing of the Animals

Monday, October 6, 2014

6:30pm

Lord of Life parking lot

For the past 6 years Lord of Life has celebrated a Blessing of the

Animals.

This service will be held on October 6 and honors, Francis the Saint

of Assisi who gave up a life of wealth to live in poverty and serve the

poor. He understood how God’s love embraces all creatures, and

he spoke to the animals believing that the animals themselves

speak to us of His love and care. Animals befriend and console us

with their loyalty and love. They remind us of God’s faithfulness and

they call forth love from us---love for them, love for ourselves and

love for our human brothers and sisters.

The offering of food donations, treats, and toys will be collected on

September 28 and October 5 as well as during the service on Mon-

day. The items will be donated to Marantha Farms, a place in the

Ridgeland area for homeless animals.

Items that are needed include:

Friskies cat food

Pedigree Beef Dog food

Science Diet Puppy Chow

Purina Cat Chow

Cat Litter

Cleaning rags

$ for Bales of Hay, Rabies Vaccine, Rimadyl (For Senior dogs

with arthritis) and Heart worm tests.

Please invite your friends and neighbors to this community service

ministry event.

CELEBRATION SUNDAY!

“We Give Thee But Thine Own”, will be the theme this years for Celebration Sunday on October 19th. Families will once again have the opportunity to complete an Estimate of Giving Card that Sunday during all church services. Your pledge to support Lord of Life for 2015 will help the planning committee to budget for the coming year. Estimate of Giving Cards and envelopes will be available in the narthex of church starting September 28th, for anyone unable to attend on Celebration Sunday or for anyone who would like to complete a card in advance. Your envelope can be dropped in the offering plate any Sunday before October 19th. “We give thee but Thine own, whatever the gift maybe; all that we have is Thine alone, a trust, O Lord from Thee!”
