“The Cost of Discipleship is Great but Worth It.”

    Matthew 24:3-14

Jesus never promised his followers an easy life. He always

urged prospective disciples to count the cost before making their

choice. Even after they chose to follow him, he warned them well

in advance that trials and persecutions would come.

Jesus knew that persecution and difficult times would arise from

different sources; from religious leaders, civil authorities, even from

relatives and friends. But Jesus impressed one thing upon his

disciples, that being: however severe the persecution might be,

they must not forget their mission. Nothing should dim their vision

nor lessen their zeal. Even their appearance before kings and

rulers should be seized upon as God-given opportunities to bear

witness to the truth. Furthermore, Jesus promised them that in

those public trials the Holy Spirit would give them wisdom and

strength. The Holy Spirit would guide them in what they should

    say.

You realize, don’t you, that the holy Spirit lives and works in

you, too, just as it did in the disciples. You realize, don’t you, that

your mission and vision should be that as of the first disciples; to

    bear witness to the truth that Jesus is the long awaited Messiah;

the Son of God, the Savior of mankind. And as Jesus promised his

disciples, the same promise is made to you and me, “He who

endures to the end will be saved.” Your unfailing loyalty will be

rewarded with eternal salvation. The future reward, you see,

makes all the present trials fade into insignificance. Amen

    Greetings,

    Happy 4th of July!

    The youth have been enjoying

their summer church camps and will now be ready to attend Vacation Bible School July 28th

through Aug 1st, beginning with a meal at 5:30 p.m. It will be an awesome time of praising God

    through learning activities and music.

Pastor Bruce, Jeff and I attended the Synod Assembly this past month and the great news is that it will be held at Calvary

Lutheran Church in Rapid City in 2015. Music was provided by Tangled Blue throughout the Assembly. We were elated to be

able spend time/meals with our former Lord of Life Pastor Dennis Bossman and his wife Beryl, at the Assembly on Friday. He is living proof of God’s miracles through the hands of

medical teams, undaunted faith and abundant prayers.

Thank you Outreach Committee for hosting the bike ride/

potluck on Father’s Day. What a great time of fantastic food, fun and fellowship for all. There were nearly 25 riders and 55 at

the picnic. Thank you Roger for providing the hot dogs and burgers and Carl for providing his grill and grilling talents!

The 30th Anniversary celebration with a picnic and

dedication of the new cross was held on June 29th. Pictures and updates will appear in the August Lifelines.

Again, thank you volunteers, congregation and guests of Lord of Life. It gives me great joy to be in the company of wonderful people who welcome guests with open arms.

The next Council meeting will be held on Monday, July 14, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Guests are welcome to attend. If you

have questions or concerns, please contact me or one of the other members.

Have a safe and wonderful 4th of July Celebration.

    Blessings, Vicki Glanzer, Council President

“This is the day which the Lord as made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Fair Trade Coffee Coffee is the most widely traded

commodity in the world yet most

    coffee growers live below poverty

    levels because the middleman gives

them next to nothing for their crops. That’s why

Lutheran World Relief has set up cooperatives with the

coffee growers around the world to help them earn

more money for themselves and their communities.

Please consider purchasing your coffee here at church

and you will feel better knowing you are doing your part

    helping people live better lives.

Coffee is for sale on the Usher’s Table every Sunday.

Lord of Life Coffee House We usually have “Praise and Worship Sunday” on the 4th Sunday of the month. Along with that, we have our LOL

Coffeehouse set up so you can get a yummy cup of gourmet coffee to go along with your worship experience.

We use the money that we receive from coffee sales to fund various projects at church such as: shipping costs for LWR Personal Care Kits, supplies for coffeehouse, purchasing postcards for Birthdays, food for various

picnics/dinners and printing of business cards. Thank you for supporting the LOL Coffeehouse!!

    Dear Christian Friends:

God is love. We know that. The Bible tells us so. But until you experience that unending love, it is hard to comprehend. I still shake my head in bewilderment at the magnitude of His love.

There is a closing chapter in the classic A Tale of Two Cities entitled “Recalled to Life”. I was reminded of that on Easter Sunday as we celebrated the Resurrection of our Lord. Indeed, Jesus was “recalled to life” after his death on the cross. The news was shocking to his friends.

I cried Easter morning as I entered Brandon Lutheran for worship. The shock was overwhelming after eight months and four days being held captive in a hospital bed, stuck inside a body that would not co-operate.

Eleven surgeries, dozens of set backs, one step forward, two back. The depression was unbearable — yet every day I received greeting cards for God’s wonder people — expressing their prayers and support to “recall me to life”. God’s gift of love expressed through the Holy Spirit was endless. Thank you, good people from so many churches.

The doctors in Sioux Falls told me they did not expect me to return from Milwaukee alive. The doctors in Milwaukee admitted to me that at least three times they thought they lost me. But my “Can do” attitude kept me alive. No. I will argue that point. It was the “can do” attitude that was fed to me daily by your cards, prayers and support. Over and over again you wrote, you can do this, have faith, keep up the good work, we’re praying for you! These messages came to me, even on days when I had prayed to God to allow me to die!

Yes, eleven surgeries, five bouts with Pneumonia, a collapsed lung, liver and kidney transplants, a cancerous tumor, a thoracotomy and lung decordation, a bowel obstruction, septic shock, a tracheotomy, the removal of thyroid and goiter, bleeding ulcers...all this and more...as a result of liver failure! I shouldn’t be here. Yet, God in his love knew better and urged me on through your hands. The work of the Holy Spirit never ceased.

Resurrection Sunday. Easter. The Recall to Life. With Great joy I celebrate God’s love and his commitment to us by sending his Son to die for us, that we might live! Please, join me in praising God for His grace and for the work of the Holy Spirit through doctors, nurses, and each and every one of you. I certainly am grateful.

With heartfelt thanks, Pastor Dennis Bossman

    Spring

To many people the best time of the year is Spring, They are anxious to see the all beauty it will bring, And see the birds return and listen to them sing,

And also to hear the frogs doing their thing!

To see the grass go from brown to green, The sun and the dew give it such sheen! To watch the flowers sprout and grow,

And eagerly wait for the blossoms to show. And the grass continues to grow!

The trees leaf out to bring shade, It is truly a beautiful world God has made.

Everyone should take a few minutes a day, To enjoy all the beauty that’s on display!

People shouldn’t schedule every minute of the day, Because they can miss all the beauty along the way!

And the grass continues to grow! OH NO! ITS TIME TO MOW!
