Try This cool VenueYou don’t have to be in eastern

France to raise your flutes. Lucky Long Islanders can start clicking their own flutes full of sparkling wine at South-old’s Sparkling Pointe Vineyard & Winery—the only New York vineyard to make sparkling wines exclusively.

Sparkling Pointe takes up 29 acres in the heart of Long Island’s North Fork Wine Country and truly sparkles. And, since its inception nearly a decade ago, the place has become a prime party destination.

With the architecture one would find in the Champagne region of France, décor that includes impres-sive Venetian crystal chandeliers and captivating views of the vineyard, this is a must-party-here place. It hosts a number of enticing options. For a large crowd, one would want to aim for the Grand Tasting Room. The outdoor grounds are perfect for tented occasions, which can be held on the Great Lawn and Terrace. For a smaller party, you won’t find anything cooler than the VIP Bubble Room. It’s perfect for private celebrations and corporate events, accommodating crowds up to 50. It’s set up as a hip lounge equipped with a flat-screen television and fireplace.

Not only is the venue a sight to behold, the sparkling wines on the menu are equal in taste. Don’t trust us? Trust expert winemaker Gilles Martin, whose expertise the owners enlisted the help of, or you can check out the many awards they have earned over the past few years.

You may leave saying the same phrase Mr. Perignon once did: Come quickly, I am tasting the stars! when you get a hold of one of their sparkling wines. Choices include everything from NV Topaz to NV Cuvee Carnaval. Speaking of Cuvee Carnaval, it’s the Sparkling Pointe’s latest creation and already an award winner. The newbie is a pale gold, extra dry wine that took home the silver medal at this year’s Finger Lakes International Wine Competition.

“The inspiration for that was to produce a sweeter wine that repre-sented the very festive Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro,” says Judy Cordasci, private events coordinator at Sparkling Pointe.

The venue’s many events include live music, Friday night Ludmilla Brazil Playing, Bistro 72 Taste of the East End Happy Hour and in-store wine tastings. Sparkling Pointe, 39750 County Road 48, Southold. 631-765-0200. www.sparklingpointe.com

incorporaTe a subTle Theme

Sure, when you think of a themed event, you may think cheesy and done-to-death. It seems like themed weddings especially are a thing of the past. But the main reason they rose to popularity in the first place is because they are a load of fun. With that feeling still lurking in every bride-to-be’s heart, more and more wedding folk are incorporating a subtle theme into their classy celebrations.

One way to use a theme without going overboard is to limit it to one area, such as wardrobe. A great example of this: Bride-to-be Christina Geraci of Stony Brook is taking on a 1920s Art Deco theme for her autumn wedding.

“The color scheme is silvers, whites and creams with black accents and there might even be some feather accents,” says Geraci. “The brides-maid’s dresses are silver and have silver brooches that match the brooch on my dress. My dress is very simple, A-line with a portrait collar, and a brooch and a 1920s hairpiece. I also got a short white fur coat to wear over the dress since the wedding is in November.”

Geraci has it right.

dress To impress Party guests have it pretty easy.

Hosts have a bit more work to do, but no matter what role you are playing best-selling fashion author Charla Krupp says it’s easy to look great.

“In short, the best way to go is a solid colored dress,” she advises. “Forget the suits—so over! Make sure the dress flatters you in all the right places. Nude heels are always going to make you look longer and leaner. Carry a small clutch bag, not an office or everyday handbag.”

For the men, Krupp suggests avoiding white and opting for a fun, fashionable color.

“A dark suit and a lively colored shirt and tie,” she says. “Lavender? Pink? Something not so solemn and dull as a white shirt.”

Q&aHosting an amazing party requires

great food, great entertainment and, of course, a great group of people. The first thing to focus on will be your guest list and invitations. Invitations set the tone for any event; you want your guests to become excited from the moment they open their invitations and respond, “Yes!” It is important to choose an invitation that represents the type of event you’re having—whether it be a themed birthday party, wedding or other social affair. To find out the “do’s and dont’s” regarding invitations I sat down with Jenna Anello, Invita-tion Specialist at PWP Event Planning Design and Boutique.

Q: Jenna, what kind of questions do you ask before you start taking out samples?

a: i like to ask clients if they have started looking for invitations previously and if

they are drawn to things that are more simple/elegant or something a bit more modern/colorful. There is also the consideration of one’s budget.

Q: should a client have a price range in mind before shopping?

a: You should have an idea of the amount of money you want to spend on the invita-tions, but try to be flexible; you might fall in love with something and, although you didn’t anticipate spending a certain amount, you can guarantee that if you’re excited about it, your guests will be too.

Q: What determines the price of an invitation?

a: The paper style and materials used to create the invite itself. we are past the days where the only type of invitation is made on paper. You can have invitations made out of chocolate, wine bottles that are melted down and even full-sized license plates or cds.

Q: What if the invitation is traditional and made out of paper?

a: if you are going to have a traditional paper invitation usually the price is deter-mined by the number of paper layers and the quality of the paper itself; such as shimmer papers, linen papers, metallic papers or even silk brocade. There is a whole world of papers available today to make your invitation custom. The way you print on them will also have an impact on the pricing. You can choose between laser, which is the least expensive, foil printing, thermography, and letterpress.

Q: What are some fun and unique ways to send an invitation?

a: You can give a gift within the invitation—who doesn’t like presents? You can add an extra touch to your event by having your guests become involved in the theme/decor. if you are having a mas-querade then send each guest an invite with a mask included to ensure that they will all arrive in costume and your theme will be accomplished.

Q: once the invitation is selected, what is the right way to address and word it?

a: if it is a formal affair, address your guests in a formal manner. when “request-ing the presence of mr. and mrs. john pierce” use titles such as mr., mrs., and dr. if the event is more casual, you can be casual when telling john and michelle “Hey, come party!”

Q: how far in advance should you purchase your invitations?

a: The more time in advance means more time to create. You can get a great invitation anywhere from three months before the event, but then you’re limited on custom selections and will have to choose something in-stock. i suggest to start looking within six months, but if you are looking for something “outside the box” give it about eight.

Believe it or not, the days of beach bungalows over the fiji waters are long gone—so is first-class airfare and the two-week-long vacation. long islanders have had to adapt to the dwindling economy in the past few years and unfortunately they may not be able to celebrate the fortunate find of a lifetime lover with an exotic honeymoon. But, lucky for us, there are plenty of paradise-like places right around the corner. it’s called a staycation, and though it doesn’t sound like a real galapagos islands getaway, some of long island’s honeymoon destinations are just as gorgeous.

By amanda Pierce

I had been working weddings and events for years, but nothing could have prepared me for planning the day when I would be the one standing up at the altar saying, “I do.” I always said that in order to be a successful planner, your own life must go unplanned. Then, on Dec. 24, 2008, I became the bride-to-be, and my wedding an affair I wanted remembered.

You are cordially invited to the wedding of Amanda Katlynn Anello and Chad Michael Pierce ...

January 8, 2011 I awoke at seven to a bed of fresh

snow on the ground. The snow was fitting to Chad’s and my wedding concept: rock with vintage flair. With clients, I draw out their personalities and assist in creating a wedding that represents who they are as a couple. Pierce and I, planning our wedding, did the same. Elvis’ birthday was not purposely picked, but some things are just meant to be, I guess.

The idea of searching for my wedding dress overwhelmed me, as it does many brides. I was worried expec-tations would never be met. I had an idea of what I wanted, yet it was the one I never would have considered which ended up the one. As soon as I put it on, I knew. Now brides, you will know when you have found the right dress because you will get “the feeling”... the feeling that finally makes you feel it’s real, you’re the one he’s going to be waiting for at the end of that aisle. This feeling and this dress is out there, and when you and the one meet, it will be love at first sight. Don’t be afraid to try on all styles of dresses; you never know which one will fit your body the best so don’t be quick to rule anything out. The one for me was a Lazaro gown. I accessorized with a tra-ditional bird’s nest veil, a bold choice, one I knew would bring me back in time where I always wanted to be. The dress had a lot of glam but was missing some glitz. A visit to my friend Thomas Knoell at Thomas Knoell Designs did the fix. Along with his staff, he created a beautiful, pearl and gem encrusted, custom headpiece with matching jewelry. Future heirlooms which I’m sure will turn to family treasures.

Watching the girls get ready in the

bridal suite at the East Wind Inn, con-veniently located next to our reception hall, The Estate at East Wind, I felt like I was home. (To make out-of-town guests feel this way from the moment they arrived, I had them greeted with a bag of goodies at check-in.) Adorned in pin-curls, courtesy of Colleen from CSI Salon, I served Mimosas and good music. I had worked so many weddings, I knew what to expect. I wanted my wedding to feel different, I didn’t want to feel like I was working. I promised to let go and let the day happen organically. What was done, was done... the Mimosas helped. All of the girls wore up-do’s and had their make-up done by Christy-Ann Cosmetics. I wanted a Marilyn Monroe deep-red lip, and Victoria’s artistry was perfect; timeless. When the girls put

on their plum bridesmaids dresses and custom stoles I had sewn, I was sure people were going to think they were at a runway show, not a wedding. They looked glamorous.

Vincent Commisso, my dear friend and floral designer of PWP, delivered the bouquets. The look was complete. The flowers were mixed colors of deep reds and purples. Amaranths hung from my maid of honor’s bouquet providing an ethereal pop to the romantic look. My bouquet, an over-sized bundle of Sandra Bernhard Peonies—usually out of season at this time—was a prime example of how Vincent makes magic happen. The stems of the flowers were exposed as if he had just gathered them from a garden and wrapped them with vintage black lace. When my

photographer arrived, she held a mini photo shoot with my dress, shoes and accessories; a moment they rightfully deserved. Then it was time for me. Lia Diaz of Imagine Studios has a very unique eye and her albums really tell a couple’s story. With minimal posed pictures, Lia captured the day from behind the scenes, allowing Chad and I to enjoy our day and guests.

I can still remember my heart flut-tering as my dad and I stepped out of the vintage Rolls Royce. Thanks to my family at PWP, I wasn’t worried about a thing. I was excited for the day to finally begin. I walked into the church and my bridal party had already started down the aisle. After one emotional glance at my maid of honor, my sister and best friend, the song changed. It was my moment. I had fought long and hard for the music director of the architecturally stunning St. Patrick’s of Bay Shore to allow me to walk to the sounds of “Bittersweet Symphony” by The Verve. It was well worth it. When the song started, the doors opened, taking my breath away. The aisle was lined with Vincent’s unbelievable floral pieces. As I walked past the packed church of closest friends and family, there he stood. Chad has always been handsome, and at this moment, when my eyes locked into his, I couldn’t look away. He wore a traditional black tuxedo with a deep red vest and tie. The groomsmen, standing behind him, looked great matching the girls with plum-colored accents.

Guests held onto the scroll wedding programs I had personally printed and tied with velvet ribbon. The parts of the ceremony I will never forget were those not written in the program. Our priest made the wedding ceremony our own. Father Steve asked us how we met and why we were in love and it was refreshing to talk about our love in a way that we hadn’t thought previously to discuss.

The ceremony ended as we ran through a downpour of rose petals. We then toasted in our limo, alone for the first time as husband and wife. The ride together on the way to The East Wind was exciting and romantic. It was a time of reflection. Brides often focus on the reception, thinking it is the most important part of the day, but the ceremony, the moment you both declare yourself husband and wife, is what the reception celebration is all about.

I experienced the reception as if I were my own guest, enjoying every-thing that came my way. All went as planned. Dave Clark of Paramount’s Renegades filled the grand entrance of The Estate with the sound of beautiful piano scores. Guests gathered at the black, old Hollywood dressing room vanity mirror where I had left a lip-stick-written message “Please take a

seat,” sealed with a kiss. Tiny pewter chairs surrounding the mirror held each guest’s table assignment.

A sneak peak at the reception room where I would soon dance my first night as a married woman away, gave me a huge sense of accomplishment and immense feelings of joy. Every-thing that had previously consumed my life was here in one room before me; years worth of imagination, hopes and dreams. Black silk-covered tables, deep purple pin-tuck overlays and, resting on silver chargers, black pin-tucked napkins holding custom purple and silver double-layered shimmer menus. Across each menu was a ribbon that read, “For as long as they both shall live…” and resting on every ribbon lied antique skeleton keys. It was exactly as planned. The table seating cards brought guests to their tables where they would find one of two different floral centerpieces. They were presented with either a full candelabra with black taper/pillar candles and a deep base of mixed florals, which tied in my colors, or by the second piece: a full topiary of flowers with black candles to match the bottom. I like reception rooms to have multiple styles of centerpieces. I find it gives the room texture and sparks conversation among guests. Deep-purple uplighting provided by Tommy Tunes Entertainment set the mood.

My sweetheart table was the icing on the cake. Not only were there a bed of rose petals and florals, but Chad and I sat in black, oversized, wood chairs decorated with medieval carvings. We were the picture of medieval royalty on our thrones.

Chad and I wanted our favors to be different and entertaining. Men seemed to favor the cigar roller that arrived during dessert. LCG Cigars was the perfect addition to our night, even women enjoyed cigars as they laughed about memories created throughout the evening. Guests also enjoyed a photo booth provided by NY Digital Memories, where they left their inhibitions to the wind and got crazy. Looking through my album of copies from everyone’s pictures always brings a smile to my face. By the end of the album I could see that everyone became family and friends.

The end of the night couldn’t have been sweeter, literally. My second family, the PWP Event Planners, created a full table of candy favorites for my guests to take home as old-fash-ioned goody bags. Surprising a person who plans for everything is hard to do but leave it to the PWP team to give every event, even mine, that special touch. Being a bride was an amazing time in my life. I now relate more to my clients than ever before because I know exactly how they are feeling. A wedding is a personal day that deserves much attention. It should be as one-of-a-kind as the love that it represents. I still receive compliments for the wedding. It is always flattering to hear how beautiful everything was but, as a planner, it is most rewarding when someone says with excitement, “Wow, your wedding was different!” Chad and I, as lovers and as people, are unique; we wouldn’t have wanted our wedding to be anything other than one-of-a-kind, and that’s exactly what it was.

OK, it’s been a long time (in fashion time) since the royal wedding took place in March and more than 2 billion people watched Kate Middleton wed Prince William of Wales. Nearly 22 million viewers were from the United States alone. You know what that means, right? Since then, almost everything the royal posse was sporting that day has been documented—and then immediately sold out.

The royal wedding would leave quite the fashion forecast for weddings to come both in the U.K. and here at home—after all, we wear white gowns because the Queen of England did.

Observers noticed and took note of the dresses both the bride, Kate Middleton, and the maid of honor, Pippa Middleton, wore down the aisle. It’s a sure bet that plenty of brides-to-be will be wearing Alexander McQueen for their upcoming nuptials. But McQueen isn’t the only fashion this royal wedding has royally spotlighted.

From Pippa’s shoes to Princess Beatrice’s hat, the royal family brought a whole lot of fashion into focus.

Fashion eagles quickly zoomed in on the most minimal royal wedding details including Pippa’s show-stopping shoes, which have quickly gained worldwide notice and immense popularity.

Aruna Seth, a British-born bridal shoe designer, was the chosen one for Pippa’s feet. Her Lynn butterfly heels that are a farfalla platform satin peep toe heel, retail for more than $700 (and have to be shipped across the pond for another few hundred). These shoes have basically knocked Manolo Blahnik’s Something Blue’s—thank

you Carrie Bradshaw—off the shelf, and we don’t mean because they’re sold out.

“We are so happy Pippa chose our brand and tremendously happy as so many people loved her look at the wedding,” says Aruna Seth representa-tive Nia Thomas. “The style has sold mega-well and ladies are loving the shoes.”

The best part about these shoes: there are a ton of colors and different styles available so you can sport them as a bride, a bridesmaid or just as a wedding guest. As far as Pippa’s shoes, the Aruna Seth rep said the shoes now have a waiting list and are backor-dered (Here’s a secret, you can nab a pair at PWP, one of the only New York boutiques that have them!)

Another accessory now on the wedding wish list are hats. Hats of all kind are hot and they’ve definitely staged their comeback at the royal wedding. Everyone from the Queen to a former Spice Girl and her soccer star hubby was sporting one on the big day.

The go-to hat designer for the royals and celebs was Brit Philip Treacy. Victoria Beckham was wearing the designer’s small pillbox hat in blue satin with crystal spikes, while hubby David Beckham carried a Philip Treacy classic top hat. (Did you know that it’s tradition that you don’t take off your hat until the mother of the bride removes hers?)

But the most notable hat at the royal wedding was Princess Beatrice’s piece. She donned a definite statement hat that featured a coral color and prominent bow detail. The Philip

Treacy creation silk bow hat appeared on almost every magazine cover around the world. Following the wedding and the hat’s wielding popular-ity, the Princess auctioned the “unique sculptural celebratory headpiece in delicate tea rose silk” on eBay. After 64 bids, the hat fetched $131,648.

So, for your next wedding, don’t be a Samantha Cameron and not wear a hat at all. Instead, rock a hat like the royals.

“After the wedding everybody has been coming in wanting a great hat,” says bridal expert Laurie Savino of Bridalblog.mjtrims.com. “I just had a bride and her friends come in and they all wanted hats for their wedding. The royal wedding has really influ-enced us, we really embrace the fashion and we can really wear it. But you have to wear it with confidence and feel great and beautiful!”

But, as far as New York goes, Savino adds, “Here, we don’t go as over the top. We choose a smaller, easier style of hat.”

One more great look for guests thanks to the royals was the monochromatic look (an outfit comprised of only one color). Subtle, sophisticated and so stylish, this look is a keeper.

Everyone who has got a diamond tiara and royal title followed this fashion trend. Royal followers included Princess Victoria of Sweden, who donned a salmon Elie Saab number; Prince Albert of Monaco’s fiancé Charlene Wittstock, who wore a gray coat, gloves and clutch; and Princess Letizia of Spain, who wore a blush-colored dress and hat by Felipe Varela.

If you’re a wedding guest wanting to achieve a monochromatic look, here’s some advice. Don’t dress head-to-toe in one shade; instead, use multiple shades of the same color tone. If you want to stand out, try creating contrast with different textures.

“There were a lot of monochro-matic color looks at the royal wedding and usually they were dress and jacket or dress and coat ensembles that coor-dinated, which is quite a traditional way of dressing for a wedding,” says Colleen Sherin, senior fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue.

Sherin’s expert advice for a guest looking to achieve a monochromatic

look?“It was a dress and jacket that

relate tonally or a dress and a light-weight coat over a dress, sort of a dress ensemble look that we saw at the royal wedding and that would be a way that someone would achieve that look,” she says.

“Go for either a skirt and jacket or a jacket over a dress in colors that are either the same or it may even be a bit more modern to do it tonally where each piece is a shade of a certain color but not completely matching. You can play with different textures and embel-lishments and color tones to work that look too.”

What are we going to do now that the royal wedding is over? Well, good news, we can look forward to another royal influence in July, when Prince Albert II, Prince of Monaco weds Charlene Wittstock. The royal couple is set to wed at home in Monaco, one of the most luxurious countries in the world, known for its fortunes and fabulous fashions.

Bridal Beauty 101Your big day is in front of you and there are so many tasks at hand. It’s never too early to start planning your look for the big day. Hair & make-up will take front stage but there are other things to consider as well. To help make sure your beauty plans are scheduled correctly and to insure they go off without a hitch, here’s a To-Do list (and a To-Not-Do list)...1. HAIR: If you are considering a new cut or color, make sure that you give yourself enough time before hand. We suggest not making any major changes if your wedding is less than 6 months away. If you are considering a up-do, the longer your hair is before the wedding day, the better. Your stylist can help tolet you know the appropriate length to create the style you are considering. If your hair is on the shorter side but youwould still like to have an elaborate style, consider semi-permanent or temporary extensions. For hair color, do not do anything too drastic. A few highlights framing your face are agreat way to make a subtle change. If you color your hair regularly, schedule

your color touch-up appointment one week before the wedding day. Lastly, schedule a trial up-do or styling appointment at least 3 months prior. Make sure you have your headpiece with you on the day of your practice run in order to know exactly what the end result will be. Here’s a trick... if you schedule an early morning appointment for your trial, you can see how long your look will last. . 2. SKINCARE: For a clear complexion on your wedding day, do not wait until the last minute. Start a healthy skincare regimen as early as possible. Speak with a licensed esthetician who canevaluate your skin and start you on a program that will yield the best results for your skin type. You may also want to con-sider laser hair removal for a stubble free honeymoon. Glisten Med Spa has now opened inside the Cactus Salon in Dix Hills and provides a full array of laser treatments such as cellulite reduction, skin tightening and hair removal. All laser treatmentsshould be started 6 months in advance of your wedding day. In addition to med spa services, Cactus now offers all natural spray

tanning by Suvara. This service is available in the Dix Hills, Syosset & Smithtown locations. Visit them for a custom blended spray tan for a sun-kissed look on your wedding day.3. MAKE-UP: Airbrushed make-up is the best application for a long lasting look. Expert artists can camouflage skin imperfections and highlight your best features with this technique. Be prepared to purchase some of the make-up for your wedding day touch-ups. Items in the same shade of lip gloss, blush, powder and mascara are always good to have on hand. We recommend doing a make-up trial on the same day you schedule your trial up-do/styling this way you will see the final look. Take lots of pictures afterwards so that you will get an idea of how you will look in your wedding photos. See what you like or may want to change and talk to your professionals about the results. In addition to your make-up, you may want to consider evaluating your smile with Modern Smile, located in our Plainview Centre location. Modern Smile provides expert Teeth Whitening and Invisalign to give you a perfect smile- every time!

Dear Katerina, Not to worry, Cactus has the perfect solution! We can apply a Keratin Color-Lock Glazing treatment after you get highlights to lock in you color and protect it from oxidation. In addition, this treatment will help to smooth out the hair shaft, giving your great hair shine and making it much easier for you to style. To help protect your color further, never go into the pool with dry hair. Before swimming, wet hair down and apply a leave-in conditioner with an SPF of 15 or higher- with or without highlights, this is something you should do regardless. Chlorine and the sun can do a tremendous amount of damage. Stop into any of our locations for a complimentary consultation any time. Enjoy the summer!

Dear Joe, I have been wanting to experiment with highlights but I swim in the pool daily and am afraid that they will turn green- I’ve seen this happen to some friends. How can I get highlights and not have this problem? -Katerina G.
