The receipts were piledhigh before being placedin a huge box to draw forwinners in the StapletonArea Chamber of Com-merce’s “Chamber Blitz.”

Shoppers were encour-aged to receive their re-ceipts at local businessesbeginning November 17during Stapleton’s “Fros-ty & Fabulous” event.

“We received a lot morereceipts than we antici-pated,” Cindy Frey, Cham-ber treasurer said.“Thank you, everyone forshopping local and shop-ping Stapleton.”

Receipts, rounded to thenearest dollar, weredrawn until $500.00 wasreached.

Molly Walz was the bigwinner receiving $115.00in Chamber bucks. Mar-ian Lanka won $70.00 andErnie Zachry, $55.00.

Country Partnerscustomers will

receive patronageCountry Partners Cooperative has completed its

year-end audit for the period ending September 30,2018. Total sales were recorded at $264 million. Localearnings were approximately $1.6 million and com-bined with regional cooperative patronage resulted in$4.3 million of total net income.

The board of directors met November 27 to arrive ata plan for the distribution of earnings and the patron-age rates as a result of the successful year. Patronagechecks will be mailed sometime after January 1 as perthe normal procedure.

McPherson Co. has new sheriffMcPherson County

Commissioners held aspecial meeting, Friday,December 21, to inter-view three candidates forMcPherson County Sher-iff. Robert McFarland wasinterviewed earlier at theregular December 10board meeting. KellyWilliams, Corey Neal andJimmy Collins were inter-viewed and Williams wasappointed McPhersonCounty Sheriff for a four-

year term effective Janu-ary 3, 2019.

Williams served in theArmy just under eightyears and has lived in Ne-braska since 1989.

He has been in law en-forcement since 1990. Heworked for the Grand Is-land police force and inMerrick County at Cen-tral City.

Williams said he will bemoving to McPherson

County and sworn in assheriff at 1:30 p.m., Janu-ary 3, by Clerk MagistrateBrenda Cochran.

“I love law enforcementand being part of a com-munity. This looked likethe perfect fit for me,” headded.

McPherson County com-missioners also gave em-ployees Christmas Eve asa holiday, and approvedthe purchase of a 2011

One vehicle accident

A one-vehicle no injury accident was investi-gated by the Logan County Sheriff’s office. Theaccident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m.,Friday, December 7, approximately four mileswest of Stapleton on Highway 92.

Saige Johnson was eastbound and on her wayto school, when the car she was driving went offthe south side of the highway. The driver over-corrected and ended up in the north ditch. Notransport was necessary and no accident reportwas made due to less than $1,000 damage to thevehicle.
