Engagement

Working with others

Engagement strategiesNCVO research on community engagement (13 BL areas):

Low intensity engagement: Importance of having multitude

of ‘entry points’ to participate and microvolunteering

Don’t overburden volunteers: People tend to slip in and

out of volunteering, so a steady stream key

Community engagement is not easy and needs continual

attention

Communication with residents is paramount: value of

face-to-face interaction/ events with residents to engage

people

Working with Health

agencies

IVAR action research in 7 BL areas :

Big Local partnerships to articulate clear offer to bring to the

table to encourage health agencies to work with them

Importance of identifying allies and common ground

BL areas as ideal test beds for new ideas and activities,

able to take risks that may not be so free to take

Challenges from cuts, mergers and outsourcing
