Rights:

If you are called in to a

meeting that could lead to

disciplinary action, it is

important to state the fol-

lowing to preserve your

rights:

“If this discussion could

in any way lead to my

being disciplined or

terminated, or affec

my personal working

condition, I respectfully

request that my Union

Representative, Officer

or Steward be presen

at the meeting.

Without representation

I choose not to answer

any questions.”

Make sure you take this

important step to main-

tain your fair representa-

tion rights.

It’s Your Right to Have Representation!

AFSCME IN ACTION!  Your AFSCME Stewards are hard at work protecting your rights in theworkplace. Here is a sampling of some of the things AFSCME has beeninvolved in:

Eligibility - Demotion overturned, worker reinstated with full back pay.

Eligibility - 5-Day Suspension rescinded.

Social Services - 24 Week salary reduction reduced to one StepReduction for 8 Weeks.

Juvenile Hall - Termination reduced to demotion.

Mental Health - Pay step reduction rescinded.

Mental Health - Termination rescinded.

Grievances Granted: Denial of vacation; denial of AWS; denial of step increase; denial of promotion in flex class; numerous grievancesfor departments implementing work rule changes in violation of theMOU; improper shift changes; job spec changes.

Transfer Canceled: In one of the more egregious things we’ve seenat the Mental Health Department, they were trying to force a disabledworker to work on the in-patient unit, in violation of the long standingrestrictions, the seniority provisions of the MOU and the federal Ameri-cans with Disabilities Act (ADA). After several spirited discussions, wewere able to convince County Counsel the department had not sharedsignificant information and ultimately the department was directed to

cancel the transfer.

REMINDER-CONFIDENTIALITY MATTERS!There have been several instances recently of workers getting intotrouble because they have been accessing information on cases for per-sonal reasons. This is an absolute violation of County and Departmentrules. So remember — if the case is not assigned to you — if they areyour friend/relative/enemy — if you don’t have a business need to be inthe case: DO NOT ACCESS THE CASE!

CalPERS BOARD ELECTION -
