Introduction
A new rebar element for construction works is high-strength non-metallic concrete
reinforcement made of composite materials.
Fibre-reinforced plastic rebar represents extrastrong bars with a diameter of 4 to 20 mm of any
face-to-face length with ribbed surface of a helical rebar.
Fibre-reinforced plastic rebar is designed for use in concrete constructions with stressed and
nonprestressed reinforcing instead of traditional steel reinforcing.
Non-metallic fibre-reinforced plastic rebar is produced in the form of bars and coils with a
helical rebar of any face-to-face length, made of glass or basalt fiber imbued with a chemical-resistant
plastic binder.
Area of use
1. Reinforcement is used according to the project documentation requirements together with
project documentation requirements for building structures and buildings of different purpose.

2. Reinforcement is designed to be used in industrial, civil and road building.
3. Use in concrete bulding structures and in buildings of different purpose.
4. For use in light and heavy concrete (foam concrete, floor panels, in floor slabs as well as in
monolithic foundations).

17. Temperature range use of the constructions made of concrete with non-metallic reinforcement
is from -50ºС up to +60ºС.
18. Non-metallic reinforcement can be used in the underground structures which are being
constructed on the cut-and-cover basis.
19. Use of non-metallic reinforcement is also possible in load-carrying constructions with fire
resistance limit not more than R15.
20. Subway.
Use of non-metallic reinforcement increases constructions working lifespan two- or threefold in
comparison to the use of metallic reinforcement, especially while being influenced by aggressive
environment, including those which contain chlorides, alkalies and acids.
When composed of concrete-steel constructions metallic reinforcement is the most responsible but also
the weakest and the most vulnreable part as well. Under the influence of moisture and alkaline
environment of the concrete, the reinforcement rusts, which leads to the lifespan limitation, as well as
to necessity of maintenance works, and eventually to destruction of concrete-steel constructions. In
this respect, for working lifespan maintenance of concrete-steel constructions fiber glass reinforced
plastic rebar is used, which allows to increase working lifespan of the structures being constructed.
General non-metallic concrete reinforcement requirements In concrete structures non-metallic reinforcement can be used in the form of separate bars, plane
gratings, voluminous frameworks.
Under appropriate feasibility study mixed reinforcement (non-metallic and steel reinforcement) is
allowed.
In case of autoclave hardening of concrete with non-metallic reinforcement thermal and moisture
processing shall be performed at temperatures of 80-85˚С.
Concrete structures with non-metallic reinforcement of AKS and AKB brands shall meet general
requirements, presented for concrete structures with steel reinforcement.
Concrete structures with non-metallic reinforcement shall be provided with the requirable reliability
against all kinds of ultimate limit states by means of calculation, material selection, sizing and
designing according to the requirements of SNiP 52-01, SP 52-101. Herewith technological
requirements in structure fabrication as well as building operational requirements shall be met
according to the appropriate normative documents.

Non-metallic concrete reinforcement materials Concrete
For non-metallic concrete reinforcement materials heavy and light concrete of the following classes
and brands shall be used:
quality compression classes: В7,5; В10; В15; В20; В25; В30; В35; В40; В45; В50; В55; В60
quality axial tension classes: Bt0,8; Btl,2; BtJ,6; Вt2,0; Вt 2,4; Bt2,8; Bt3.2;
frost-resistance brands: F50; F75; F100; F150; F200; F300; F400; F500;
water-resistance brands: W2; W4; W6; W8; W10; W12.
Frost-resistance concrete brand: for above-ground structures, at average subzero temperature outside
air in a cold period of the year from -5 to 40 °С, not less than F75; at average subzero temperature less
than -40 °С, the frost-resistance concrete brand is set by a specific substantiation, at average subzero
temperature more than -5°С, the concrete brand is not set.
Water-resistance concrete brand for above-ground structures, at average subzero temperature outside
air in a cold period more than -40°С, as well as for external walls of heated buildings is not set.
Reinforcement
Non-metallic reinforcement represents a bunch of fibers (fiberglass or basalt fiber), situated along the
bar and connected with each other by means of the polymer (hardened with thermosetting plastic). For
increase of adhesion between concrete and reinforcement there is a bunch of fiber with minor diameter
on the main bar.
Non-metallic reinforcement is produced under the AKS brand AKS – fiberglass reinforcement (made
of fiberglass), АКB – basalt-plastic reinforcement (made of basalt fiber). AKS and АКB reinforcement
differ by colour and properties. Reinforcement is produced in the form of variable bars, coils and is
divided by outer diameter – the maximum bar and length diameter. The unit designation of non-
metallic reinforcement in the documentation includes: brand, outer diameter (rebar number).
