BLOCK ASSEMBLY:BLOCK 1:1. place (1) B 2-7/8” square, right sides together, with (1) E 2-7/8” square. on the back of E square, draw a diagonal line. stitch an accurate 1/4” on each side of this line. cut apart on the drawn line, and press toward B. Make (43). this will generate (86) hALF SQUARE TRiAngLES that should measure 2-1/2” square from raw edge to raw edge.

2. diagonally stitch (1) B 2-1/2” square to one end of (1) E 4-1/2” x 2-1/2” strip. trim the excess from the corner and gently press toward B. Make (34).

3. diagonally stitch another B 2-1/2” square to the adjacent corner of the step 2 units, as shown. this makes a FLYing gOOSE UniT. trim the excess from the corner and press toward B. Make (34).

9. string together three step 1 triangles, as shown. Make (17).

10. stitch steps 8 and 9 together. wait to press. Make (17).

11. attach (1) E 2-1/2” square along the side, as shown, of each step 3 FLYing gOOSE UniT. Do Not press. Make (34).

12. stitch a step 11, exactly as shown, to a step 10 unit. wait to press. Make (17).

13. add (1) E 2-1/2” square to the other end of the remaining step 11’s. Do Not press. Make (17).

BORDER ASSEMBLY: MeAsUre WIDtH AND LeNGtH oF tHe QUILt top to eN-sUre BorDer sIZes, BeLoW Are oUr CUttING sIZes.

innER BORDER:25. sew (1) a 1-1/2” x (56-1/2”) border strip to each side of quilt center. sew (1) a 1-1/2” x (42-1/2”) border strip to the top and bottom of quilt center.

OUTER BORDER:26. center and stitch the border lengths to the sides, top and bottom of your quilt, stopping and starting the stitching at the 1/4” seam allowance. there should be up to 6”of border extending beyond the end of the stitching at all corners.

27. place a corner to miter on your ironing board, with the border that is lying horizontal extending to the right, and the one that is vertical, on top, and extending up.

28. fold the top extending border diagonally under and position so it is exactly on top of the one extending to the right. Once you are satisfied that the miter is as it should be, smash it with the iron.

29. place a pin or two to hold the mitered corner in place. from the underside, stitch in the pressed crease. Look to see that it’s fine, and if it is, trim the excess from the corner to 1/4”. press this seam open. repeat on the remaining corners.

BLOCK 2:15. stitch (2) strip sets of A 1-1/2” and C 1-1/2”. press toward C. from these, subcut (36) 1-1/2” segments.

16. looking at the placement to match, stitch a step 15 subcut to each side of a 2-1/2” E square. press gently toward the E square. Make (18).

17. stitch (2) strip sets of A 2-1/2” and C 2-1/2”. press toward C and subcut (36) 1-1/2” segments.

18. watching the placement, stitch the step 17’s above and below step 16. wait to press. Make (18).

19. add (1) E 4-1/2” x 2-1/2” along both sides of the step 18 units. wait to press. Make (18).

20. stitch (3) strip sets of A 1-1/2” and E 1-1/2” plus (3) strip sets of C 1-1/2” and E 1-1/2”. press all toward the A or C. from each combination, subcut (72) 1-1/2” segments.

21. stitch 4-patches from the step 20 subcuts, matching colors. press carefully. Make (36) of each.

22. watch the exact placement as you stitch the 4-patches to opposite ends of E 4-1/2” x 2-1/2”. wait to press. Make (36).

23. complete BLOCK 2 by attaching the step 22 units along both edges of the step 19 block centers. press gently. the blocks should measure 8-1/2” square from raw edge to raw edge. Make (18).

QUiLT ASSEMBLY:

24. lay out the blocks and stitch them together as shown on the QUILT DIAGRAM. (Note the direction of the flower blocks.) press carefully.
