YsguborSet amid a glorious patchwork of rolling farmland is Ysgubor, a century old barn that has been beautifully converted into a spacious and immaculately presented family home, and which boasts 4.5 acres of its own stunning grounds. The location is not only incredibly picturesque, but it is also extremely convenient, something that was to attract the owners to the property a little over eight years ago.

“Before we bought this house my husband was working locally,” says Lyn, “but I was commuting from Surrey. We chose this location mainly because of its proximity to Camarthen, which has a mainline station, and to the M4, which though only a matter of minutes away doesn’t impact on the peaceful nature of the setting at all; ultimately we’re able to enjoy the best of both worlds.”

“The barn had already been converted when we bought it,” says Roy, “but over the years we have done bits and pieces such as renovating the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as redecorating throughout.” “I think my favourite part of the house is the living room,” says Lyn. “Originally it would have been where the animals were kept, so the room is double height and has a large opening where the threshing door would have been. It’s very spacious and wonderfully light and bright, but also feels very cosy when the wood burner is roaring away in the winter. The French doors lead straight out onto the patio terrace, so when the weather is warm we can really bring the outside in.”

“We basically had to create the garden out of an area of farmyard,” says Roy, “but it’s now just beautiful. We have a lovely patio terrace which sweeps right along the back and one side of the house, and then a formal garden just beyond which is a complete sun trap.” “The rest of the land was divided into paddocks when we bought the house,” says Lyn, “but we took down the fencing so it’s now just a rolling meadow which stretches down to the river and an area of woodland beyond. It’s so pretty and provides the ideal space in which to walk our dogs.”

“I shall definitely miss this house when the time comes to move,” says Lyn, “because it has not only been a very happy home, but it’s also very adaptable. When our family or friends come to visit we can accommodate them all; for larger gatherings we have been known to have people camping in the grounds as well as staying in the house and the summer house.” “And the location is superb,” adds Roy, “it’s not only very beautiful, peaceful and convenient, but we’re never short of things to do. We have a lovely gastro pub just a short bike ride away in Nantgaredig, the walking is fabulous, and we’re also just a short distance from the coast.” “It’s a beautiful home that ticks an awful lot of boxes,” concludes Lyn.*
