magazine

MediUM:

Adobe Illustrator

Brief: The 50 page magazine complements and embellishes what Slope stands for:

young, fresh, and experimental approaches to poetry from never before published authors.

The form of this magazine (a coptic bound exposed spine) as well as the combination of

illustrative and typographic explorations of each selected poem enhance the individuality

of this annual special edition.

Redesign of the

Georges Perec essay,

The Page

MediUM:

Adobe InDesign

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Illustrator

Brief: A perfect bound, french fold, double-sided book, this redesign of the Georges

Perec text evokes the nature of the writing through its dualistic nature. The essay straddles

two worlds, romantic stylizations, and the innovations of modernism and experimentation.

The combination resulted one essay filled with hand-done calligraphy and the other, a

modern approach to the same page. The book reads always on the left side, as the two

different versions are reversed.

Brief: Two double page spreads about green design, with a focus on innovative use

of materials in new green architecture. The spreads aim at being both informative and

conveying the look of new architecture with an emphasis on the triangle as shape.

Create a non-traditional

map for a 10 minute walk

MediUM:

Adobe InDesign

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Illustrator

Brief: The map is an audio guide employing two different methods for the depiction of

sound. The first you flip through like a booklet that creates maps of six different sites using

shape, scale, color and placement to indicate types of sound, volume, pitch, and direction

the noise came from in relation to the place. Inspired by the shapes of Calder and Kandinsky

this system hopes to create a new type of map for people to explore. The second method

is discovered upon opening up the map, inside is a spectrogram as well as six photos of

the previous six locations. The spectrogram, collected from a sound recording of the walk,

breaks each type of sound into a color along the line so the viewer can see the exact

frequency of each sound occurring at what time along the walk.

for a student film festival

MediUM:

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe InDesign

Brief: The poster serves as a logo for the UGA student human rights film festival through

Amnesty International. The hand done type uses slogans from various Amnesty campaigns

and combines them into the form of a hand, representative of how Amnesty empowers

individuals to make a difference on a world forum.

Explain a scientific

concept through a poster

MediUM:

Adobe InDesign

Adobe Illustrator

Brief: The poster involved learning about fluorescence resonance energy transfer, writing

the copy on an 8th grade level, and organizing it using a visual metaphor to explain the

complicated concept of its current application in technology today as virtual light wires.

Create a poster advertising

the spring graphic design

senior exhibition

MediUM:

Adobe Photoshop

Brief: Printed on newsprint, this typographic poster was inspired by the typical design

student’s frustrations with an ink jet or laser printer and old boxing posters. Employing the jar-

gon of the big fight and cigar–smoking announcer, the poster is about the battle royale between

man and machine. It was also selected and printed by classmates to advertise the show.

I was inspired by the history of the town, known for its goose pond and produced a rough

pair of geese based on torn paper and paired it with funky hand done type.
