Amanda competing dressage at Holly Hill Farm

    Equestrian Center on Aggie.

    Meet Amanda U. Ronan

    Amanda Uechi Ronan began

riding competitively in her local 4-H

    program and with the American

    Quarter Horse Association when she

was eight years old. Her first trainer,

    D.C. Higgins of Chaparral, New

Mexico, instilled the idea that a horse

    thoughtfully trained by a consistent

rider that was both tact and tough

could excel in any discipline, western

    or english. She continued her

training as a teenager under the

    guidance of Susan Bruner of

    Odessa, Texas, focusing on Trail

class, a western event which tests

    the maneuverability of the horse

    through an obstacle course.

Amanda and her Quarter Horse, Tes

Bit of Class aka Aggie, finished in

9th place out of over 300 competitors

at the Texas State 4-H Horse Show

in Trail in 2000. After completing a

    working student position with Howell

    Quarter Horses in Lubbock and

briefly toying with the idea of playing

polo for the Texas Tech Universityteam, Amanda moved to east Texas

where she was still in search of

something new in the horse world.

    She met Terri Adams, trainer

    and owner of Seahorse Sporthorses

    located in Jacksonville, in 2005.

Amanda competing Gump at a GHCTASchooling Horse Trial at Pine Hill.

    Terri introduced her to Eventing,also

known as horse trials, a sport that

originates from the cavalry and tests

horse and rider in dressage, cross

    country and stadium jumping.

Amanda had the privilege of being a

working student for Ms. Adams from

    2005 through 2007, riding everything

from young horses to seasonedcampaigners. Amanda took a hiatus

from riding when she and her

    husband, Josh, were blessed with

    their daughter in 2008.

Not out of the saddle for long,

in 2010 she and Aggie began riding

with the Longacre Hunt Club of

    northwest Houston, although

truthfully she has yet to see a single

fox. Amanda picked up her firstOTTB, Off-the-track Thoroughbred,

in January of 2011 when she found

Gump listed for free on Craigslist.

A short five months later, the pair

    were successfully competing in

GHCTA horse trials. Also in 2011,

    Amanda fulfilled a six-month working

    student position at Oaklawn Stab

of Lufkin, owned by Karen Gay,

where she was introduced to the

    Hunter disciplines. She acquired

second OTTB, Lizard, in May 20

She and Lizard participated in a

    Jerilyn Caldwell 3* Parelli

    professional clinic last fall and

    Amanda has since incorporated

some of what she learned into all

three of her personal horses train

    programs.

    Amanda currently trains w

Terri Adams, for jumping, and Mim

Burch, of Blue Moon Farm located

    Elkhart, for dressage. Her long-te

    goals include competing in Event

    at the Preliminary level and

    completing the USEA Instructors

    Certification Program.

    Amanda will be volunteerin

at Living Water Equine Services t

    prepare the Show Team for

    competition, specifically in English

    disciplines.

Amanda schooling Lizard at RKE Equestrian

    Center.

Look for Amanda at Living Water Thursday evenings or feel free to

Meet Amanda KravitzAmanda K. grew up in

Michigan and began riding at the age

of 12. The early days were spent at

a hunter jumper barn with a very

strict Irish trainer. She rode hunter

jumper to the A circuit level until she

    discovered eventing. As she worked

through the levels, she was able to

experience the thrills of riding all over

this nation and overseas with the

    help of incredible horses.

    Amanda retired from the sport

four years ago after a serious riding

accident. She now is a safety

queen and is coming back to her

roots of enjoying riding for FUN! You

can always find Amanda at her newly

    acquired facility, Hillside Equestrian

Center, located on West 103 here in

    Lufkin.

    She raises Zweibrucker

    horses (warmbloods) and has a

collection of rescue horses that are

learning how great humans can be.

    Amanda K. will be volunteering

at Living Water Equine Services on

    Thursday evenings.
