DEAR HAMMOCK BEACH CLUB MEMBERS:

The recent transition of ownership and our new management companies, Aimbridge Hospitality and Troon Golf, continues to be as smooth as expected. Club management and staff are learning new processes, new platforms and systems to provide a more effective and efficient Resort and Club operation.

Thank you for the great response to the Troon Member Survey launched in January. We had a little over 800 members respond which is over a 70% response. As surveys go, this is a tremendous number. A summary of the results from this survey will be provided at the Member & Managers reception scheduled for Wednesday, March 25th at 5:30pm. Representatives from Aimbridge Hospitality, Troon Golf, and our new owners KDG Capital, will be present to provide updates and mix with our Club members at this event.

For members unable to attend this event, we will have a summary of the meeting in the April Member newsletter.

On another note, I hope you have all had a chance to see the new stamped concrete and seal coating at the main Club entry Porte Cochère. This refurbishment has greatly improved the arrival experience for members and guests and we thank the Phase 1 HOA for this undertaking.

As we approach our busy Spring Break and Easter holiday season at the Club, we would like to encourage all Club members to schedule their tee times, court times, spa appointments and dining reservations well in advance. This will greatly assist our service professionals to prepare for your arrival and to deliver outstanding service as you enjoy all the amenities the Club has to offer.

Thank you for your continued patronage and support.

Again, we are thrilled to have the combined expertise of KDG Capital, Troon and Aimbridge onboard as we strive to enhance our amenities and services for our valued club members and guests.

Best regards, Brad Hauer, PGA General Manager

OVER-THE-TOP is perhaps the most common swing characteristics among high handicap golfers. It usually occurs because of overuse or over-dominance of the upper body during the downswing. As a result, the club is thrown outside of the intended swing plane, with the club head approaching the ball and out-to-in motion. This creates a pull if the club face is square, or a slice if the club face is open.

Golf Tip of the Month BY HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL, ERIC SARGENT

OVER-THE-TOP

CORRECTIVE EXCERCISES“Throwing Motion” is a great drill to help eliminate an “over the top” swing characteristic. Use a side-arm throwing motion from a golf set up. Step toward your target, lead with your elbow and throw the ball out to the right. This will replicate the correct position during the down-swing. Notice the elbow returns back to my side in a side-arm throwing position.

BATTLE FOR THE HAMMOCK CUPBY GOLF MEMBER, LES DAVIS

During mid-February, most of you may not have realized that there was a battle taking place between Hammock Dunes and Hammock Beach for possession of the coveted Hammock Cup Trophy. The Hammock Cup is a version of a Ryder Cup golf format pitting 16 two-man teams from each club in a 36-hole event played on courses from both clubs. The winner is awarded the honor of maintaining the trophy until the next annual event. The tournament originated in 2009, and was played through 2016, with a 3 year hiatus caused by storm damages. Hammock Dunes won the cup the first year, and has kept it ever since, despite valiant efforts by Hammock Beach teams each year it was played.

The 2020 event in February started with the men from HD taking a one-point lead over the HB team after playing the Creek Course...24.5 to 23.5. Despite being behind, the HB men were encouraged, knowing that home Ocean Course experience for the final round would be beneficial. The HB men performed brilliantly, achieving 31 points and HD accumulated the remaining 17 points. The overall match score was HB: 54.5, HD: 41.5, so Hammock Beach will proudly display the Hammock Cup in the Pro Shop for the next year.

Above is the photo of the Hammock Beach team captains, pictured from left to right, Eric Sargent, Bernie Barczak & Alan Mandell receiving the trophy from their Hammock Dunes counterparts.

TIPS TO SLIDING ON A CLAY COURT, BY COURTNEY SMITH, HEAD TENNIS PROFESSIONAL

For many tennis players, clay is considered the most difficult surface to play on. The ball moves slower on clay and tends to “sit up” which can lead to extended rallies from the baseline. However, the loose surface that gives a clay court its slippery nature is probably its most distinct characteristic.

Learning to slide on clay can be difficult, but it is a very important in allowing the player to immediately recover for the next ball. If a player does not slide correctly, they will overrun or be cramped on their shot. Here are a few pointers to sliding effectively on clay:

1. Slide before hitting the shot. 2. As you sprint for a ball, step out with your lead leg and allow it to slide along the surface. 3. It is important that you keep your weight centered as you want to maintain balance as you are hitting. 4. Use your momentum to carry you along the surface. 5. Finish your slide at the point of contact.

Most importantly, remember that the slide is about recovery and changing direction. With a little practice, being able to slide effectively on clay will allow you to hit balls at the end of a run with good balance and body control.

Hundreds of hours have gone into song selection and rehearsals to produce a show that you will recall for years to come; and leave you shouting “encore”. Anna Maria SopranoDINNER & SHOWSunday, April 26, 2020 Ocean Ballroom | 6pm-9pm"The Captivating Nightingale: Hear Her Once, Remember Her Forever!"

Anna Maria began her life and musical journey in Udine, Italy just outside Venice. This journey has evolved into a voice with a signature sound which once heard, will be remembered forever, striking chords of human emotion. Growing up listening to her father’s opera records, her

musical career began at the age of 18 at the Dizzy Gillespie Academy of Jazz to embrace later on the operatic vocal training. Her career spans nearly 30 years singing in the most diverse venues and cultures between Europe and the Americas. She is multilingual and sings in multiple languages. She found her niche in the unique blend of the modern genre called Classical-Crossover that bridges the gap between Pop and

Opera, from movie themes, Broadway and to the most loved Italian and International songs, on the line of Bocelli, Brightman, Il Divo.

Get Plenty of Rest – Your body will be under attack the moment you step on the plane so make sure you get enough rest to ensure your body is in peak condition.

Eat Well – Don’t forget your healthy eating habits. Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you can take a vacation from good eating habits. Start taking an immunity supplement (Airborne Immune Support, Emergen-C, or Nuun Immunity) 2 to 3 days prior to your flight.

Buy Plane Food – Yes, I said it. Only if you are able to get fresh fruits, vegetables, bread or crackers. Bread and crackers are also helpful in settling upset stomach and preventing motion sickness. Stay away from salty snacks because they can speed dehydration.

Use Sanitizing Wipes in the Restroom, Tray Table, Seat Belts, and Arm Rest – A package of sani-wipes costs only a few dollars at the drug and grocery store. Remember to always wipe down armrests, seat belts, buckles, and pockets, tray table and touchscreen entertainment centers. Don’t forget to take them to the restroom to wipe down the seat, flusher, and sink.

Bring Hand Sanitizer and Use It Often – A small bottle of hand sanitizer can be purchased for $1 to $2. Make sure the bottle is 3.4 ounces or less so that you can bring it in your carry-on. Wash your hands whenever possible since there is no knowing when you have collected something on your hands.

Stay Hydrated and Bring Your Own Bottle – One of the most important things you can do to stay healthy during a flight is staying hydrated. Pack you own reusable bottle. Most airports have water bottle filling stations where you can fill up your bottle for free.

Beware of the Seat Pocket and Bring your Own Entertainment Medium – The seat pocket on planes have been found to contain nearly the same amount of bacteria as the tray table (which is the worst area on the whole plane). Seat pockets have been used for everything from dirty tissues to used diapers. Most people use them as garbage bins. As for the entertainment touch screen remember children also use them. It’s better to bring your own electronic devices for entertainment,

Just remember to practice good eating and hygiene habits when traveling. Use your hand sanitizer and sani-wipes often. Practicing an ounce of prevention will keep you from getting sick and make your travels more enjoyable.

HOW TO AVOID GETTING SICK WHEN YOU TRAVEL Donna M. Gialone Lead Fitness Trainer and Nutrition Counselor, Hammock Beach ResortIt has become second nature for us to travel to visit friends, family and foreign climes and when we do we opt to fly. They are also the perfect environment for getting sick. Do you ever stop to ask yourself how many travelers have used this seat before I did? Where did they travel from? There may have been as many as 65 travelers prior to you using that seat. There are various factors working against our immune system that can cause it to start to weaken. Compound that with the assault of germs and foreign bacteria thrown at it during a flight and it’s no wonder we get sick after a flight Try following these tips before your next flight.
