An apprenticeship/advanced apprenticeship combines real work with learning and training both on and off the job. Apprentices recruited through the livin futures partnership will be employed by livin, Mears, Bullock or Southdale and will spend four days per week within the workplace and one day per week at college.
Apprentices work towards level two qualifications and advanced apprentices work towards level three qualifications. All apprentices will receive a wage which will be a minimum of the apprenticeship rate in accordance with your age.

The types of apprenticeships available with livin futures
Who are apprenticeships for? Anyone aged 16 years old and above can become an apprentice, however, the majority of people that start an apprenticeship are school and college leavers.
Entry RequirementsEntry requirements for the livin futures apprenticeship programme are usually four or more GCSE’s at Grade C or above, including English and Maths. You may also be required to undertake an assessment test prior to interview.
What if I don’t have the right qualifications? If you don’t have the required qualifications, don’t worry. You may still be eligible if you are willing to undertake training towards achieving Functional Skills in English and Maths level two qualifications.

So how does it work?
Apprentice Fact: Did you know since 2010,
the livin futures partnership has appointed over
40 apprentices?
Apprenticeship programmes are made up of a number of different components. Throughout the programme as an apprentice you will develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills as part of the technical certificate, and prove competence within the standards of the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). Apprentices will also work to achieve the appropriate level of functional skills in English, Maths and possibly ICT, as well as having an awareness and understanding of employment rights and responsibilities.
All components are assessed separately. Only when all parts are successfully achieved will the apprentice fully complete their apprenticeship programme. The minimum components of an apprenticeship include:
Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship
• NVQ Level 2/3
• A knowledge component/technical certificate Level 2/3
• Functional skills at Level 1/2 – Maths and English and possibly ICT
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
Where would I study?
The NVQ will be assessed within your work place. All other components will be delivered at Bishop Auckland College or New College Durham, depending where you live.

Here’s what some of our apprentices have to say about their experiences… Next steps
“livin Futures has given me the opportunity to gain experience and learn new skills by being involved in real work based projects. It has given me a great start in my career.
Everyone has been so helpful and supportive, and I’ve made some really good friends.”
Beth Pattison, Administration Apprentice
“I started the apprenticeship after completing A Levels. Going to university was not an option due to the expense. It was the best decision I have made.
I am getting the chance to further my qualifications and experience, and get paid at the same time.”
Matthew Wilson, Accounting Technician
“All I want to do is to do well. They said if you listen you’ll learn, and I have.”
