Group workshops Monthly newsletters Out of School Toolkit with educational tools for facilities to use with staff, parents, and children CATCH activity boxes with tools for lesson plans and games that help children identify healthy foods and increase physical activity Calendar of Greenville-specific activities, healthy living education, seasonal recipes, etc. Collabor ation and Engageme nt Each sector of the community represents a different perspective as we engage in open conversations about the betterment of Greenville’s Out of School Time centers. Members include representatives who share their expertise with the common goals outlined in the Out of School Community Action Plan. LiveWell facilitates collaboration through networking events for facility directors. Evaluat ion Evaluation is critical for measuring progress toward goals. Program directors complete a Nutrition and Physical Activity Self Assessment for Child Care (NAP SACC) providing information about their facility’s nutritional services, physical activity habits, staff behaviors, and policy implementations. Assessments are completed yearly and are used to develop new goals. Celebratio n and Sustainabi lity LiveWell celebrates successes both big and small. LiveWell supports programs in continuing to reach their goals of healthy eating and active living. Awards are given to facilities that show bronze, silver, or gold levels of health practices at their programs. These facilities are also given monetary awards, depending on the availability of funds. LiveWell is a coalition of over 150 organizations working together to ensure access to healthy eating and active living for every Greenville County resident. LiveWell partners with schools, childcare centers, work places, recreational facilities, places of worship, doctor’s offices, restaurants, and many other parts of the community. LiveWell assesses and engages the population at each facility in order to plan and implement ways in which people can improve health. What is LiveWell Greenville? This workgroup supports afterschool and summer program providers in making the healthy choice the easy choice for children and families. Out of School Time Workgroup Over 40% of Greenville County children are overweight or obese. Children younger than 18 make up 25% of Greenville County’s population. Obesity in children causes health problems throughout the lifespan including hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and certain types of cancers.
