THEtime is now for a loudervoice. Healthcare is a mess

in this country. Living with illness, scarcity and negative self talk is destroy-ing peoples lives. It is expensive and dis-couraging. Our mission is to empowerour readers to make wiser choices forthemselves on living a life that flourish-es. We do this for you.

To kick off our 2015 monthly calendarI want to let you know of the LeadingCause of Death in America. It is not thediseases we know so well. We agree withour friends at Life Extension magazine -The Leading Cause of Death in the west-ern world is medical ignorance.

“While data is regularly publishedshowing what diseases people die with, missing is what CAUSED the disease tomanifest in the first place. The unfortunatefact is that Medical Ignorance is the west-ern worlds leading cause of death.” Wehave been taught to trust our doctors -they wont harm us. We have been taughtto not question the authority of the med-ical community - who I believe are wellintended and desire truly to be healers. The system has broken.

“The main stream media continues tooverlook proven methods to prevent, mit-igate, or eradicate chronic disorders. Theresult is too many Americans needlesslysuffer and die.”

Medical ignorance deprives people offacts about their illness. It deprives peopleof life saving treatment options. Childrenare being needlessly medicated, surgeriesare the norm and alternative options arescoffed at. Look at the cancer survivalrates “despite proclamations by the med-ical community of progress, cancer con-tinues to inflict an epidemic of disabilityand death on the American population.”And cancer survival rates are still hover-ing around the 5 year rate.

Our mission is to dispel some of thisignorance so our readers can be empow-ered to make informed health and well-ness choices for themselves. It is cheaperto be well than sick.

I heard a commercial on TV the otherday promoting a new pneumonia vaccinefor folks over 50. In the commercial itespoused it’s effectiveness and hurriedlysped through the side effects, which soundworse than the symptoms of pneumonia. Then - it encouraged those who hadalready received a pneumonia vaccine(from a different provider ) should get thisvaccine too - because it might help thefirst vaccine work better. I thought myhead would explode. People, wash yourhands, stay away from other sick people, take lots of vitamin C, zinc acetate at thefirst sign of a cold and take steps to restoreyour autoimmune system instead of justtaking more meds. or getting more shots. That’s just common sense. While this isnot a diagnosis of your illness nor am I aphysician, the information we provide inour journal is evidenced based and backedby good science. Always speak with yourphysician before starting a new regime fortreating an illness. We have to say that - soyou can be informed that we (the editorialstaff) are not doctors.

Watch each issue of 2015 as weuncover the medical ignorance underly-ing the epidemics in America - theLeading Cause of Death

We invite you to share our magazinewith your friends and families, Feel freeto post on your social media. If there is asubject matter you would like us toexplore please email us at [email protected]

ASmuch as I love summer , I reallylike Fall. The crisp wind whipping

up falling leaves, the vibrant colors, sweatersand the harvest of summers bounty. I oftenreflect hat fall is my favorite time of the year- not to hot - not too cold and forever chang-ing. Fall is unpredictable. It could rain , itcould snow, it could be cloudy and gray orsunny and bright. The best part is the food -time for homemade soups and breads, freshveggies and warm ciders.

As Fall is ever changing, it prepares for theend of one season and a time of new begin-nings - winter. That is our plan here at LiveWise. We have finished another season andare looking forward to 2015 where we willhave a vibrant new beginning. For monthsnow, we have been planting the seeds fornew content, new relationships, new circula-tion and a more bountiful audience.

HALFWAYup the mountain I saw him: The man inthe red shirt. He rode a black bicycle.

He was about 150 meters ahead of me.I intended to catch him.Little did I know what would happen when I did.I was pedaling my bicycle, climbing King’s Mountain Road. It’s one of

my favorite bike rides in the Bay Area. It’s a five-mile, two-lane road thatwinds through redwood forest as it steadily climbs toward the top.

This ride challenges me. It pushes me. It can be long, grueling andexhausting.

Today it was more challenging than usual. There were several cyclists who passed me. They’d say hello as they

rode past me. Their form, streamlined. Their technique, flawless. Theirclothes, really bright.

I admit I felt a little envious. Not of the bright clothes, but of their abili-ty to pass me.

And perhaps that’s why I got so fixated on the man in the red shirt.I first saw him when I came around a bend into a small clearing. He was

about 150 meters in front of me-and I was gaining on him. Slowly. He disappeared around a turn and I pedaled hard, hoping to gain ground. When he came back into view, I could see that I was closer, but not as

close as I wanted to be.This went on for several minutes. He would go around a turn and when

he would come back into my view, he would be just a little closer.I was really pushing hard. My legs were burning. My knees ached. Sweat

stung my eyes.I was in pain. But I persevered, struggling to catch him.As I got closer, I could see he was struggling too. Finally, I reached him. I rode up on his left.“Hey,” I said, struggling for breath. His face was red and sweaty. He was working hard. It was clear that he

was also struggling physically. He smiled and looked at me. Then he said four words that completely

changed my day:“What a beautiful day!”I was caught off guard.I looked up. The sky was a magnificent blue. A few small white clouds

were strolling through the sky. Magnificent redwood trees towered majes-tically all around me. Even birds were singing.

He was right. It was a beautiful day.Only I hadn’t noticed it.I’d been so stressed about catching up to him, that I hadn’t realized just

DEALING WITHTHE STRESSOF STRIVING

Page 9: Live Wise volume 4 2014

how spectacular this moment was!Continuing to ride, I felt the sunshine on my arms. I felt a slight breeze

on my face. I felt how good it felt to be alive, to be using my body, andto be engaged in climbing this mountain.

I still felt the pain in my legs, but it felt different. This man’s simple phrase changed my day.He helped me realize how often I get caught up in the struggle to reach

a certain goal. I’d fallen into the trap of feeling like I’d only be satisfiedwhen I caught up with the man in the red shirt.

But each moment of the climb provides an opportunity to be happyand to find satisfaction in what is present right now.

THE STRESS OF STRIVINGIt’s easy to get stressed out when you’re striving toward something.

With deadlines to meet and demands at home and at work, it’s easy toget so focused on accomplishing what needs to be done that you can for-get about the simple act of being.

This results driven mentality adds stress. This is the stress of striving. It’s something that happens to all of us.

The stress of striving keeps us from noticing just how enjoyable lifecan be.

The next time you’re working toward a deadline or feeling the pres-sure to perform, try these little things and see how you feel.

BREATHEWhen you’re stressed, your breath becomes quicker and tighter.

Notice your breathing. Feel what it feels like to breathe and see if itslows down a little on its own.

LET GO OF PERFECTIONWhat could you do if you weren’t striving toward perfection? How

much mental energy would it free up if you could let go of the fear ofnot attaining your ideal? To be honest, the results of your striving arebeyond your control. Put your energy on what your intention is and letthe results worry about themselves.

EMBRACE THIS MOMENTPause. Look around. Take a moment to embrace this moment. Here

you are! Wow. You’ve never been right here before. You’ve never expe-rienced this moment before, and you never will again.

CREATE SPACE FOR GRATITUDENotice what is good about this moment. Gratitude is a powerful

stress-stopper. What little things do you have to be grateful for rightnow? How is the challenge helping you grow? What unique gifts are youable to use?

FOCUS ON PHYSICAL SENSATIONSIt’s so easy to let the mind carry you away on a long journey into a

cycle of stress and striving. By focusing on physical sensations, you cansimplify this moment.

You only feel physical sensations right now. You’re not feeling themin the past. You’re not feeling them in the future. You’re feeling themright now. This can help to reduce the mental struggle associated withstress.

What red shirt are you chasing? What goals are you striving toward? The next time you’re feeling the stress of striving, try applying these

little things one at a time. They can each make a big difference. Josh Wise

WHATdoes your ideal life look like? Do youknow it like the back of your hand? How

close are you to living it? If you know more about what you don’twant in your life than what you do, there is a good chance thatthat is what is showing up for you. If you’ve heard that youattract what you think about but have a hard time changing whatyou think, you’re not alone. It is difficult to picture the life youwant to live when you are in over your head putting out immedi-ate fires and completely immersed in what you don’t want.

When I came across Ideal LifeVision as a goal-getting andmanifestation tool, the stress levels in my world were off thechart. My mortgage payment hadn’t been current in nearly adecade. I was working a 45-hour a week job, in addition toanother part-time job and any side work I could get my hands on.I was too busy to take care of my family, and my kids were won-dering if they had a mom. You’d think that for how little time Ihad I would at least have some cash, but I didn’t have an extradime. We never went on vacation and never did anything fun.My physical health was beginning to suffer as well. I was strug-gling to get by on just a couple of hours of sleep a night and wastotally exhausted. I was discouraged about the 40 extra pounds Icould never shake, and I felt terrible.

Then one day the miracle happened! I came across a programdesigned by Ann Webb called Ideal LifeVision. I decided to giveit a shot, mostly out of curiosity. I wondered if it could be as sim-ple as she made it sound to create a life makeover, and I desper-ately needed one. Desperately.

Ideal LifeVision is a system that guides you to discover yourpurpose, create a clear vision, and reinvent your life with focusand intention. Minute clarity is what makes your life visionunique. It is a detailed declaration of intent/personal missionstatement that includes the 5 key areas of your life:

• Relationships (family and social)• Spirituality• Health and fitness• Professional and financial life• Emotional and personal development

Your Ideal LifeVision is first created on paper or on a comput-er in sections and is fine-tuned and tweaked until it feels completeas an expression of the “ideal you.” It includes the motive forwanting to achieve the details of your vision (your “WHY”) andalso includes the How, Where, and When (the action plan) of spe-cific goals. It typically runs between 5 and 12 pages typed. Nowthat’s detail!

Your LifeVision is then recorded in your own voice with accel-erated learning music in the background, using a program on yourcomputer. It can then be downloaded onto your iPod (or burnedto CD) and listened to daily.

The process of listening daily to the ideal life you intend to cre-ate is incredibly powerful. The accelerated learning music access-es your belief systems at the subconscious level and begins to

rewire your brain from the inside, allowing you to change yourthought process and thereby recreate the world that shows up foryou on the outside. It literally sets a process in motion that acti-vates and attracts the things you desire into your life.

The Ideal LifeVision system puts your “ideal life” on the frontburner daily, thus integrating these dreams into your life swiftlyand efficiently. By listening to what your “ideal life” looks andfeels like daily, you begin taking steps in that direction immedi-ately. Because of the unique recording method and the type ofmusic used, even when daydreaming and not particularly “listen-ing” to your dreams, your subconscious mind still “hears” andresponds. Each and every day you are FOCUSING on what youwant and the gap between where you currently are and where youwant to be narrows. By listening daily to the type of person youare becoming, your beliefs begin to change. These beliefs, whichin turn create habits, begin to give way to new beliefs, thus creat-ing new habits.

The first obvious requirement to having what you want, is toknow what you want. Most people can give you a detailed list ofwhat they DON’T want, but how many people actually articulatein minute detail the things they desire in all areas of their life?

I definitely knew what I didn’t want. I knew I didn’t want anymore bill collectors to call me on the phone. I knew I had regretsin relationships that I had no idea how to fix. I knew I kept settingthe same New Year’s resolution about my weight year after yearand never made more than 5 pounds’ progress. I knew we had

IDEAL LIFEVISION

Page 11: Live Wise volume 4 2014

been telling our kids we would take themto Disneyland for over 10 years and nevereven got close to getting there. I knewevery time someone asked for somethingor had a great idea about something wecould do, I could give them all the reasonswe couldn’t do it. I pretty much had what Ididn’t want memorized, and I could reciteit in my sleep.

Writing my life vision was definitely anexercise in imagination, and a fun one atthat! I thought of everything I didn’t wantand imagined what it might look like tohave something different. What would itlook like to have extra money left over atthe end of the month? How would mybody feel if I awoke with energy and enthu-siasm every day feeling rested and alert? What if everyone could just pick up theirown stuff and not make a mess? Better yet, what if I had someone to help me with myhome management responsibilities so Ididn’t have to do everything myself? Whatabout that stack of books I was not gettingaround to reading? If I could travel, wherewould I go? How often?

After facing my fears that IdealLifeVision might work great for other peo-

ple but probably not for me, I did getcaught up in the possibilities in my worldof make-believe, and it felt good to havehope again - if only my life vision wouldperform like it had for other people I hadtalked to.

After listening to my recording everyday for a few weeks, the first “miracle”showed up. A friend recommended theperfect person/arrangement to help mewith my house. Luckily, I recognized theopportunity as the line from my life visionthat said, “I have someone help me withmy house 3 hours a week, and my bath-rooms are sparkly and shiny...” I realizedmy thinking had changed. The thing thathad been impossible a few weeks previ-ously turned out to be no big deal and actu-ally a “no-brainer.” It was so easy that Itruly was a little disappointed I hadn’tasked for more hours. That should be sim-ple enough to fix, though; I just rewrotethat section, rerecorded, kept listening, andwaited...a few more weeks, until my mod-ification also manifested with perfection.

That was the beginning of an amazingjourney. Within a few months, we tookour family on a 10-day trip across the

country that was impossible before IdealLifeVision. One child who had struggledwith reading for years finally started tomake significant progress. I started form-ing new habits. Managing my familybecame easier and less stressful. Clouds ofdepression started to lift. I was happier andmuch, much more fun. The perfect newoffice for my business showed up, previ-ously considered completely out of reach.Broken relationships started to mend as Ichanged how I saw people and how Iresponded to them. I started desiring andacquiring healthier lifestyle habits, and Idropped 40 pounds like a rock. Wherebefore I saw limitation, I began to gainconfidence, and I started to have ideas onhow to accomplish my goals and desires.

What if there really is an alternate uni-verse in which you live a different life, theone you were meant to live, the life whereyou play big, live your passion, and actu-ally do what you are meant to do? What ifall it takes is to decide what that looks like, record it, and listen to it daily? What areyou waiting for? Transform your life todaywith Ideal LifeVision.

SUNGLASSES AND SUNSCREENSA MAJOR CAUSE OF CANCER UNFORTUNATELY,the ultraviolet portion of sunlight is the most easily eliminated bywindows, houses, spectacles, sunglasses, sun lotions, and cloth-ing. And why is that at a bad thing? Because ultraviolet light con-stitutes one of the most powerful natural medicines the world hasever seen. By the year 1933, researchers found there were over165 different diseases for which sunlight proved to be a beneficialtreatment, including tuberculosis, hypertension, diabetes, andalmost every type of cancer. To this day, no other treatment hasshown such a wide range of benefits as sunlight.

The miraculous complete cures of tuberculosis and many otherdiseases facilitated by doctors in the early twentieth century madeheadlines at the time. Remarkably, though, the sun's healing raysremained ineffective if the patients wore sunglasses. Sunglassesblock out important rays of the light spectrum which the bodyrequires for essential biological functions. Today, for whateversinister reasons, the population is being bombarded with warningsabout sunbathing and the risks of skin cancer.

The sun is now considered the main culprit for causing skincancer, certain cataracts leading to blindness, and aging of theskin. Only those who take the "risk" of exposing themselves tosunlight find that the sun actually makes them feel better, provid-ed they don't use sunglasses, sunscreens or burn their skin. TheUV-rays in sunlight actually stimulate the thyroid gland toincrease hormone production, which in turn increases the body'sbasal metabolic rate. This assists both in weight loss and improved

muscle development. Farm animals fatten much faster when keptindoors, and so do people who stay out of the sun. Therefore, ifyou want to lose weight or increase your muscle tone, expose yourbody to the sun on a regular basis. Remember, being overweightor obese is major risk factor for developing cancer.

Any person who misses out on sunlight becomes weak andsuffers mental and physical problems as a result. His vital ener-gy diminishes in due time, which is reflected in his quality oflife. The populations in Northern European countries likeNorway and Finland, which experience months of darknessevery year, have a higher incidence of irritability, fatigue, illness, insomnia, depression, alcoholism, and suicide than those livingin the sunny parts of the world. Their skin cancer rates are high-er, too. For example, the incidence of melanoma (skin cancer) onthe Orkney and Shetland Isles, north of Scotland, is 10 times thatof Mediterranean islands.

UV light is known to activate an important skin hormone calledsolitrol. Solitrol influences our immune system and many of ourbody's regulatory centers, and, in conjunction with the pineal hor-mone melatonin, causes changes in mood and daily biologicalrhythms. The hemoglobin in our red blood cells requires ultravio-let (UV) light to bind to the oxygen needed for all cellular func-tions. Lack of sunlight can, therefore, be held co-responsible foralmost any kind of illness, including skin cancer and other formsof cancer. Using sun protection protects only the multi-billion dol-lar sunscreen and cancer industry but not your skin or your life.Consider these remarkable scientifically proven facts:

ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT• improves electrocardiogram readings • lowers blood pressure and resting heart rate • improves cardiac output when needed

(not contradictory to lower resting heart rate) • reduces cholesterol, if required • increases glycogen stores in the liver • balances blood sugar • enhances energy, endurance, and muscular strength • improves the body's resistance to infections due to an increase

of lymphocytes and phagocytic index (the average number of bacteria ingested per leukocyte of the patient's blood)

• enhances the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood • increases sex hormones • improves resistance of the skin to infections • raises one's tolerance to stress and reduces depression

On the other hand, there is not a single scientific study whichcan prove that sunlight itself is responsible for causing skin can-cers or other illnesses. There are always other factors present, such as acidosis of the tissues (due to eating an overly acidifyingdiet consisting of animal proteins, trans fatty acids, and manu-factured foods and beverages), most pharmaceutical drugs, anaccumulation of heavy metals and harmful chemicals in the tis-sues, toxic blood, a severely congested liver, an unbalancedlifestyle, and foremost of all, sunglasses and sunscreens.

The human body was designed to absorb UV light for verygood reasons; otherwise we would have been born with a naturalsunscreen for UV light on our skin and in our eyes. One of the

most important reasons is that UV radiation is necessary fornormal cell division. A lack of sunlight disrupts normal cellgrowth, which can lead to cancer. The wearing of sunglasses, including regular UV-reflecting spectacles and contact lenses,is largely responsible for certain degenerative eye diseases, such as macular degeneration. Most people who use sunglass-es on a regular basis report continuously weakening eyesight.

Depriving your eyes of adequate exposure to ultravioletlight can have serious consequences for your skin and evenrisk you life. Normally, as soon as the optic nerves of youreyes sense sunlight, your pituitary gland produces hormonesthat act as boosters for your melanocytes. Melanocytes pro-duce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its natural colorand protection against sunburn. When skin is exposed to thesun, melanocytes produce more pigment, causing the skin totan, or darken, and your melanocytes start producing melaninon overdrive. However, when you wear sunglasses, thisprocess becomes disrupted. Instead of kick-starting themelanocyte production to protect your skin against sunburn, your pituitary glands thinks it is getting dark outside and, thus, it greatly reduces production of melanocyte-stimulatinghormones. Subsequently, your skin produces less melanin,

“Depriving your eyes of adequateexposure to ultraviolet light can have

serious consequences.”

Page 14: Live Wise volume 4 2014

which causes it to less protected and thusbecome damaged.

The dramatically increased incidence of skindamage seemingly caused by the sun (but real-ly by wearing sunglasses) is exploited by thesunscreen and cancer industry. The main rea-son the dermatology industry promotes sun-screen products is because it is heavily fundedby sunscreen manufacturers. The pharmaceu-tical and medical industries never intended tocure diseases. Right from the beginning, it wastheir intention to make a lot of money by pro-ducing drugs and chemicals that would makingup new diseases for which they would developspecific drugs and procedures to relieve symptomsbut never really eliminate them. In the aboveexample of sunlight, by advertising the dan-gers of sunlight and promoting the use ofsunglasses and sunscreens, the phar-ma/medical industry made certainthe number of skin cancers andnumerous other health problemswould increase. They then rec-ommended the appropriate treat-ments to combat these diseases, which in turn will lead to furtherescalations of these same diseases. These principals of psychologicaldeception are well known to the industryand are applied to almost every so-called disease. The result is that nearly every person in the UnitedStates already has or will develop one or several seriousillnesses at some stage in their lives. Something as"harmless" as sunglasses or sunscreens has created ahealth disaster of unimaginable proportions.

As the health author web site NaturalNews reportedrecently, a CDC study shows that 97 percent of Americans arecontaminated with an extremely toxic sunscreen chemicalcalled oxybenzone. This chemical is found in nearly 600 sun-screen products, including children's formulas. Most sun-block-ing creams and lotions also contain avobenzone for broad-spectrumprotection against short- and long-wave UVA rays which are falselyconsidered to be the main culprits responsible for long-term skin damage.(For details on how blocking out of some or all UV-rays leads to damage of deeperskin tissue, see "Heal Yourself with Sunlight" or Chapter 8 of "Timeless Secrets ofHealth and Rejuvenation.") Most sunscreens also contain a cocktail of a dozen ormore cancer- promoting fragrance chemicals and numerous petrochemical-derivedsynthetic substances. Many of these carcinogenic chemicals are readily absorbedthrough the skin, much to the annoyance of the consumer who has to keep reapply-ing the "protective"sunscreens. [Sunscreens come in the form pf lotion, cream, oil, ointment, stick, gel/jelly, spray, liquid, and pad.]

The producers of these products claim that most of the harmful chemicalsbecomes degraded in the presence of sunlight and must therefore be safe forthe consumer, a claim that is outright false since almost every person inAmerica is contaminated by sunscreen chemicals (according to the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Avobenzone [butyl- methy-oxydibenzoylmethane and oxybenzone particulary penetrate the skinvery quickly. Other chemicals found in sunscreens include dixoybenzone,PABA and PABA esters (ethyl dihydroxy propyl PAB, glyceryl PABA, p-

Page 15: Live Wise volume 4 2014

aminobenzoic acid, padimate-O or octyldimethyl PABA, Cinnamates (cinoxate, ethylhexyl p- methoxycinnamate, octocrylene, octyl methoxycinnamate),Salicylates (ethylhexyl salicylate, homos-alate, octyl salicylate), Digalloyl trioleateand Menthyl anthranilate.

There is an almost complete lack of anyadequate safety testing of these chemicals.Cosmetics contain them, too, and the bodyabsorbs them like a sponge.

Many heavily-used chemical sun-screens have a strong free radical generat-ing effect, which is the main reasonbehind skin cancer. Chemists use suchchemicals to start free radical reactionsduring chemical synthesis. These chemi-cals are so dangerous that those who han-dle them in a laboratory must keep themaway from their skin. When combinedwith other chemicals and exposed to ultra-violet light, they then generate the copiousamounts of free radicals required to bringabout the desired chemical reactions. Onyour skin, however, such chemical reac-tions, are everything but desirable.

Oxybenzone, for example, which is

found in 97% of Americans, is activat-ed by ultraviolet light that breaks itsdouble bond to produce two free radicalsites. These free radicals then oxidizeand damage fats, proteins, and DNA ofthe cells-the types of damage that occurin skin aging and the development ofskin cancers.

One major study looked at how sun-screens could increase melanoma risk. Itsteam of researchers, Garland, Cedric F., etal, found that worldwide, the greatest risein melanoma has occurred in countrieswhere chemical sunscreens has beenheavily promoted by the medical estab-lishment and pharma/chemical industry.Queensland now has more incidences ofmelanoma per capita than any other placeon Earth. The study was published byAmerican Journal of Public Health, Vol.

82, No. 4, April 1992, pp. 614-15. The question why the incidence of skin

cancer has increased so dramatically sincethe massive promotion of sunscreensshould have raised a red flag among con-sumers, but, instead, it made them lathertheir skin with even more of these deadlychemicals. The mass media (financedlargely by drug giants) made certain, thepopulation would not hear about suchimportant studies as the following ones:

Dr. Gordon Ainsleigh in Californiafound that the 17% increase in breastcancer observed between 1981 and 1992may be the result of the pervasive use ofsunscreens over the past decade(Ainsleigh, H. Gordon. Beneficialeffects of sun exposure on cancer mor-tality. Preventive Medicine, Vol. 22,February 1993, pp. 132-40).

“97 percent of all Americans are contaminated with an extremely toxic

sunscreen chemical called oxybenzone.”

Page 16: Live Wise volume 4 2014

According to several studies, men whoregularly use sunscreens have a higher rateof melanoma, and woman using sun-screens have a higher rate of basal cell car-cinoma. (Garland, Cedric F. et al. Effect ofsunscreens on UV radiation-inducedenhancement of melanoma growth. Journalof the National Cancer Institute, Vol. 86,No. 10, May 18, 1994, pp. 798-801:Larsen, H.R. prevent skin cancer becausethey prevent sunburn, implying that skincancers are caused by sunburn. But this ismore a correlation than a cause-effect rela-tionship. More recent studies done inEngland and Australia actually found muchhigher skin cancer rates among people wholive mostly indoors compared with thosewho spend most of their time outdoors.

As Drs. Cedric and Frank Garland of theUniversity of California have pointed out, there is no scientific proof that sunscreensprotect against melanoma or basal cell car-cinoma in humans (Garland, C.F., et al."Could sunscreens increase melanomarisk?" American Journal of Public Health,1992; 82(4): 614-615.) According to theGarlands, the increased use of chemicalsunscreens is the primary cause of the skincancer epidemic. A study by Drs. MikeBrown (Kate Law of the Cancer ResearchCampaign) Philippe Autier (EuropeanInstitute of Oncology in Milan) reportedthat children using sunscreen returned fromholiday with more skin moles-a possiblesign of increased cancer risk. Whether ornot sunscreens increase the risk of devel-oping skin cancer, at least there is over-

whelming evidence that sunscreens don'tprevent skin cancer.

In February 1998, epidemiologistMarianne Berwick of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York pre-sented a careful analysis of data on sun-screen use and skin cancer at the annualmeeting of the American Association forthe Advancement of Science. Sunscreensmay not protect against skin cancer, includ-ing melanoma, she concluded. "We don'treally know whether sunscreens preventskin cancer," said Dr. Berwick. "Afterexamining the available epidemiologicaldata and conducting our own large case-control population-based study, we havefound no relationship between sunscreenuse at any age and the development ofmelanoma skin cancer," said Dr. Berwick.Although sunscreens do prevent sunburn,Dr. Berwick concluded that sunburn itselfis not the direct cause of cancer. She arguedthat if people develop melanoma, it may bebecause they are genetically susceptibleand likely to develop skin cancer regard-less of the amount of sunlight exposure orprotection from sunscreen.1 Dr. Berwickobjected to the universal blanket adviceabout using sunscreens during all timespent outdoors.

Dr. Berwick's previously conductedresearch (1996) found no relationshipbetween a history of sunburn and thedevelopment of melanoma.

The American Academy ofDermatology (ADA), which is largelyfunded through advertising sunscreen and

skin care products, of course strongly con-demned Dr. Berwick's research and calledher a "number crunching scientist." I guessthat's what scientists do, crunch numbers.

Now back to what sunscreens can actu-ally do to you. They may not only beresponsible for melanomas, but for manyother types of cancer and dysfunctions aswell. What's most disturbing is that manycommonly used sunscreen chemicals havestrong estrogenic actions which may seri-ously affect sexual development in chil-dren and sexual function in adults, and fur-ther increase cancer risks. Exposing yourbody to chemicals that can alter hormonalbalance puts your health at great risk, to putit mildly.

Of course, the sunscreen industry neg-lects to inform you that there is not muchdifference between drinking your sun-screen lotion and lathering it on your skin, except ingesting it would actually causeyou much less harm because your digestivesystem would filter out most of the poison. The skin has no other option than to dumpthis cocktail of carcinogens right into thecirculatory system, and from there, into theliver, kidneys, heart and brain. I will leaveit to your imagination what such a chemi-cal assault means for these vital organs.

The Vitamin-D Factor Sunglasses and sunscreen agents are

among the most health-endangering prod-ucts that exist because they block absorp-tion of ultraviolet rays which your bodyneeds to produce vitamin D. Besides hin-dering the essential exposure of your eyes

Page 17: Live Wise volume 4 2014

and skin to the rays of the sun, the use ofsunscreens and sunglasses is largelyresponsible for the chronic vitamin D defi-ciency that plagues 80% of the Americanpopulation. Vitamin D- deficiency is asso-ciated with depression, prostate cancer, breast cancer, osteoporosis and almostevery other degenerative disorder. "Theelderly, who spend little time in the sunand use sunscreen agents frequently, maybe at risk for vitamin D deficiency,"according to a statement made by theMayo Clinic. Vitamin D deficiency isstrongly associated with bone disease andfracture. Makes you wonder whyso many elderly people suffer frombone disorders.

New research findings (pub-lished in the Archives of InternalMedicine June 9, 2008;168(11):1174-1180) join a growingbody of evidence indicating that anadequate level of vitamin D, whichyou can obtain by spending anaverage of 20 minutes in the sun each day(dark-skinned people may need an hour ormore), is crucial to maintaining goodhealth. Men who are deficient in vitaminD were found to have more than doublethe normal risk of suffering a heart attackor dying even after all other possible riskfactors such as hypertension, obesity andhigh levels of blood fat were excluded. Inaddition, low levels of vitamin D showedan increased of developing diabetes anddying from breast cancer.

And yet another new study publishedby the Archives of Internal MedicineJune 23, 2008;168(12):1340-1349,shows that sunshine can cut your risk inhalf. This is what USA Today reportedon June 23, 2008:

Having low vitamin D levels has beenlinked with deaths from heart disease andother causes, adding to growing evidenceabout the "sunshine" vitamin's role ingood health.

People with the lowest blood levels ofvitamin D were about two times morelikely to die from any cause during aneight-year period than those with the high-est levels. The link with heart-relateddeaths was particularly strong in thosewith low vitamin D levels.

The study involved over 3,000 men andwomen in southwest Germany.Participants were aged 62 on average, andtheir vitamin D levels were checked inweekly blood tests.

It's estimated that at least 50 percent ofolder adults worldwide have low vitaminD levels, and a significant number ofyounger people may also be affected. Lowvitamin D levels may result from spendingless time outdoors, air pollution and adecline in your skin's ability to producevitamin D from the sun as you age, theresearchers said.

You can't be Happy and Healthy with-out It- The Serotonin Connection

Medical researchers are growingincreasingly excited about a wonder drugthat may significantly reduce your risk of

heart disease, cancer, diabetes and manyother diseases-sunshine. Amazingly, oneof nature's best medicines is right outsideyour doorstep, but many people chooseto ignore it. We all know that plants andanimals deprived of adequate sunlightbecome sick. Is it so surprising to findthat humans could actually suffer thesame fate? After all, the human body wasgenetically designed to be outdoors mostof the time. By contrast, most people inthe modernized world spend most oftheir time indoors.

Spending most of the time inside build-ings-cut off from the UV light and otherhealing rays of the sun-creates an enor-mous challenge for the body, mind andemotions. Ultimately, all hormones inthe body are regulated by the circadianrhythm (day and night cycle). The pow-erful neurotransmitter and intestinalhormone serotonin closely follows the"movement" of the sun in respect to theearth. Peak secretion occurs duringnoon time when the sun's intensity isthe strongest.

In the central nervous system, serotoninplays an important role as a neurotrans-mitter (hormone) in the modulation ofanger, depression, aggression, body tem-perature, mood, sleep, sexuality, appetite, and metabolism. In the gastrointestinaltract, which contains about 90% of thebody's total serotonin, it is responsible forbalanced digestive functions. In the blood,

the major storage site is platelets, whichcollect serotonin for use in mediatingpost-injury vasoconstriction. Recentresearch suggests that serotonin plays animportant role in liver regeneration andacts as a mitogen (induces cell division)throughout the body (Wikipedia). Failedinduction of cell division is a leadingcause of cancer.

In addition, recent Italian research con-ducted at the European Molecular BiologyLaboratory in Monterotondo found thatdefective signaling of serotonin in thebrain may be at the root cause of sudden

infant death syndrome (SIDS).This makes a lot of sense. Newlyborn babies who are being keptin dark rooms and rarely get outinto the sun are deprived of vita-min D (purposefully not sup-plied by mother's milk) and pro-duce little or no serotonin.Worldwide, many more babiesdie of Sudden Infant Death

Syndrome (SIDS) in one year than whodie of cancer, heart disease, pneumonia, child abuse, Cystic Fibrosis and MuscularDystrophy combined. The Italianresearch shows that the tested mice suf-fered drops in heart rate and other symp-toms of SIDS, and many of the animalsdied at an early age. Low levels of sero-tonin in the animals' brainstems, whichcontrol heartbeat and breathing, may havecaused sudden death, researchers said inthe July 4, 2008 issue of Science. Sinceserotonin in humans controls about thesame functions as in mice, researchersbelieve that the same phenomenon occursin human infants.

The implications of all the existingresearch conducted on serotonin are wide-reaching. Any prolonged imbalance ofserotonin levels in the body affects themost basic functions in the body.Although, fruits and vegetables containserotonin, to digest these foods yourequire a healthy digestive system. Thedigestive system follows its own schedule, controlled by the serotonin cycle.(Seemore details in "The Wonders of OurBiological Rhythms," Chapter 5 ofTimeless Secrets of Health andRejuvenation.)

The serotonin cycle, in turn, follows thecircadian rhythm. This makes sunlight tobe the most powerful and natural sustain-er of life and health. Sunlight is pure med-icine, and it's free.

“low levels of vitamin Dshowed an increased ofdeveloping diabetes anddying from breast cancer .”

Page 18: Live Wise volume 4 2014

MORE POINTS TO CONSIDER: Plan to avoid unnecessary or prolonged

exposure to sunlight, especially during themidday period, but avoid protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Many drugs, suchas LIPITOR/Atorvastatin, belladonna, furosemide, quinine, tetracycline, and doxycy-cline may make your eyes and skin sensitive tosunlight. Medication, stimulants such as caf-feine, nicotine, and adrenaline, and illegaldrugs can dilate the pupil, thereby allowing anexcessive amount of light to enter the eye. This side effect may lead to the inappropriateuse of sunglasses.

Highly acid-forming foods, including meat, eggs, cheese, fried foods, and sugar, may alsomake your eyes and skin prone to sun damage.Accordingly, you may find you can neverleave the house without sunglasses. It is a pret-ty serious condition when the sun becomes sodangerous that you have to hide from it. Thenet result is, that not getting enough sunlightlowers your vitamin D and serotonin levelsand thereby increases your risk of cancer andmany other illnesses.

Also be aware that most cosmetics now con-tain UV-blocking chemicals. These include facecreams, makeup products, moisturizers, lotionsand anti-wrinkle creams.

If you feel you absolutely need a sunscreenproduct because you are unable to avoid thedirect midday sun, make sure it has mostly nat-ural ingredients in them, such as AubreyOrganics Active Full Spectrum Sunblock SPF25. Still, it contains PAPA Ester.

Other ingredients include: TitaniumDioxide, Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base,Jojoba Butter, Organic Jojoba Oil, OrganicSunflower Oil, Organic Shea Butter, OrganicAloe Vera, White Camellia Oil, Lecithin,Canadian Willow herb Extract, Aubrey'sPreservative (Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A,C and E), Silica, Jasmine Oil.

Coconut oil, shea butter or aloe vera, may besufficient for protection (see also African BlackSoap, an African Shea Butter under NewHealth Products..

If you believe you have already been con-taminated with harmful chemicals and heavymetals (from tooth fillings, water and foodsources, such as fish), you may benefit greatlyfrom purifying your blood and tissues withMMS, Natural Cellular Defense (www.mywaiora.com/500062 ) and MarinePhytoplankton ( www.ener-chi.com).

WHENyou meet Becky Rodgers, it’s easyto be impressed with her cheerful

smile and bright, vibrant eyes. She has a bubbly, smart, effervescent personality. You can't help but get excitedwhen you hear her talk about how much she loves thework she does.

Becky is an energy healing practitioner. Energy work falls into that “ alternative” or “holis-

tic” approach to healing. There are many differentmethods and now with the advent of technology, modalities continue to be developed using bio-technohardware and software.

Wikipedia defines energy healing as: “Energy medicine, energy therapy, energy healing, or

spiritual healing is a branch of alternative medicineholding the belief that a healer can channel healingenergy into the patient. The different methods are clas-sified as hands-on, hands- off, and distant (or absent)where the patient and healer are in different locations. There are many schools of energy healing.”

According to innesource.net “Energy Medicine utilizes techniques from time-hon-

ored traditions such as acupuncture, yoga, kinesiology,and qi gong. Flow, balance, and harmony can be non-invasively restored and maintained within an energy sys-tem by tapping, massaging, pinching, twisting, or con-necting specific energy points (acupoints) on the skin;

by tracing or swirling the hand over the skin along spe-cific energy pathways; through exercises or posturesdesigned for specific energetic effects; by focused useof the mind to move specific energies; and/or by sur-rounding an area with healing energies.” innersource.net

Our bodies are electric. Our bodies and the earthhave magnetic fields. Our cells are electric - their verylife health depends on energy. When energy is nonex-istent in our mitochondria, the brain gray matter shriv-els and dies The environment that we live in is evermoving and changing - a system of energy. When weare healthy our brain and body thrives - balancing theflow of our energy fields. When our lives become filledwith stress, trauma, illness and injury, conflict with ourenvironment- a healthy system can detox and eliminatethose influences. When a person is unhealthy, they can'tprocess those energies.

Healers refer to this state of poor health as block-ages and imbalances.

Energy healing allows for effective, non-invasivemeans to re-balance the mind, body and spirit, improv-ing the energy body health, wholeness, healing, andbalance.

depressed and filled with anxiety and energy healingpractices provides an alternative that is noninvasive, affordable, comforting and apparently it actually works.

There are many physicians who advocate energywork and use it in their treatment protocols.

So I wanted to know more about Energy Healingand invited Becky to sit down with me and explainmore about her work as a certified Body Talk practi-tioner.

I had hoped for a formal sitdown interview, but itwas such a fun conversation that I forgot to ask ques-tions - here’s what I learned:

Me: What is Body Talk - is it an Oliva Newton Johnsong “ .. . Let's get physical - let me hear your bodytalk.: I couldn’t resist. Becky: The Body Talk System (TM) is an energyapproach www. bodytalksystem.com

Which combines western medicine expertise, acupunc-ture energy, principles of osteopathic and chiropracticwith applied kinesiology. It is a surprisingly simple wayfor the body to restore itself to synchronization. Weuse neuromuscular biofeedback (muscle testing) to com-municate with the body.

Me: Becky, who comes to see you for Body Talkwork? Becky: Mostly women and even children. Depression

and Anxiety are the common symptoms. But the ail-ments are as varied as the people. People are not get-ting better, and their emotional state is so vulnerableand fragile. The beauty of Body Talk is that it isquiet, relaxing, non invasive, no medications areoffered up and most people don’t have to bare theirsouls - describing every detail of their lives and whythey are sick. Their body will tell me.

Me: Is it affordable and does insurance cover it. Becky: Yes and No. Each practitioner is different intheir pricing, and it can range from $50.00 to $150.00a session. Sometimes a session can be 2 hours. Wedon’t diagnose an illness or mental health conditions. We are not therapists or medical professionals. We donot recommend any medical procedures or medication. For our clients who are seriously ill, we do of course, make sure that they are under a physicians care andshould always consult with their Doctor if they aregoing to make any changes in what the Physician hasprescribed.

Me: In your experience with your clients what keepspeople from successfully recovering - from whatever isailing them. Becky: The biggest challenge for people who havebeen in a chronic condition for a long period is totrust in the process and follow through with lifestyle

Page 23: Live Wise volume 4 2014

changes that will enhancetheir healing process. Somehave been in suffering forso long they have learnedhelplessness about gettingbetter and remain as I callit - "unhealable."

In energy work, we areinstructed that all thingshave a “memory”. Evenmedications would have amemory, and certainly yourbody creates a “memory”about the experience withinthe cell. The cell willremember the medicationlong after the medication has stopped. I would clear thatenergy block during a session.

Me: What about scars that people have? Becky: Almost everyone has a scar from something. Oldinjuries or from a new surgery. It’s not that we believethat scars themselves cause other health conditions, butwe believe that scars block the energy flow within thebody. Scarring can, in fact, restrict blood flow, circula-tion, lymph health and nerve supply in the area of thescar. Remember, body talk doesn't diagnose or treat spe-cific ailments - but through the body talk system and

clinical experiences - it hasbeen shown that once theiroverall systems are balanced- clients have shown signif-icant improvements.

I love what I do. Andbody talk is a process that Ican teach people to do them-selves and help their familymembers. That process is theAccess program and canempower people to be incharge of their health usingenergy based techniques.

Becky and I talked for acouple of hours, and I came away from the conversa-tion with a wealth of information. If you are interestedin more information about energy healing, I recommendthe resources below.

ON September 21, 2013, I wasdriving back from a business

meeting about 45 minutes away. Itwas about 8:30 at night. It was thevery day of the fall solstice, so thesunset was in a slight turmoil. It wasalso pretty windy, so I wasn’t goingvery fast, abou 45 or 50. There I was, hunkered down behind my motorcyclewindshield to lessen the push of thewind. I never follow anything or any-one when I am on my motorcycle-seri-ously, the car ahead of you couldswerve to miss an armadillo, and youcould hit it and die! Let be all thestuff people drop, from boxes toramps! So, I was leading the pack, andtraffic was fairly heavy on ValleyView. Not only by surprise, but totallyalarmed, about 15 feet ahead of me,just at the edge of my headlights, Isee… “wow, what a large animal…BOAT!!!” BAM!!!

The boat was a camouflage boat(figures!) and was alone, sideways, notrailer in sight. It was as if someonecould climb in and toss out a line andstart fishing right there. The nose ofthe boat was almost in the weeds, andthere was no place to go. By “no placeto go”-I mean that this particularstretch of road has swampland, drop-offs, bridges and barbed wire for fairlythe entire length of the two lane high-way. I am convinced that if I had beenin my van I would have rolled andinvolved at least 7 or 10 cars. Nowthose kinds of crashes are alwayscreepy out there on the highway andaffect a lot of families! I am verygrateful that I did not do that, and Iam grateful that I did not die.Accidents happen, but I still had angryresentments to work thro ugh.

Many times in life I have wonderedwhat the words on my lips will be asI exit this life. Will I go rolling andtumbling- like the Littlest Angel did-

right up to the feet of God’s throne, perhaps with inappropriate words spew-ing from my mouth? Well, after thisadventure I might know! As I was con-tinuing to move forward, having leftmy motorcycle at dead stop, I was say-ing out loud, “This cannot even bereal. Just tell me right now that this isnot even happening! Seriously?!”

I found myself next on my handsand knees. I knew I should get off theroad. I was shortly going to be some-body’s road bump; I was doing a com-bination of crawling, dragging androlling towards what were weeds bythe side of the road. I was saying andpraying intensely, aloud,

“Please help me get off the road; Ineed to get off the road, please helpme.”

Instantly there was a lady there, shesaid her name was Kim, and she was

a first responder and could she helpme? I answered her, “You betcha, thank you very much. Please help meget off the road?” She helped me dragthe last about 3 feet. HOLY MOSESMALONE-next several people rolledme from my stomach, which I wasquite content to lie there on, onto myback. Now that was some serious painright there, and I was thinking, “Iwonder if that was a very good idea, after all, what if my back is whackedout? Gadfreys, I am not going toappreciate being a quadriplegic!” Abeautiful young woman with pretty sil-ver necklaces knelt by me and tookmy hand and said she was drivingbehind me and watched me hit theboat. I thanked her for not running overme, and I asked her what she saw.She said I went rolling in the air andcame down on the ground still rolling.

Now, I am going to give credit to allthe years of gymnastics training, karatetraining, and whatever Angels on thescene were doing to spot me throughthat. I had her call my Husband andtell him I was going to the hospital.

An EMT happened to stop, heknelt down and was holding my head.Almost in the next breath a cop wasthere who said his name was Corey Ithought. I asked him if he knew Ty,my son in law, and he said he did. Ithink I was trying to make it look likeI had some good sense left so theywouldn’t freak out or something?

I shut my eyes and started just try-ing to breathe decently so I wouldn’tcry (I hate crying, it makes your eyessting and your nose run!) . I heard avoice and felt someone else take myhand, and she started talking to me. Isaid, “McMurdie?!” because I recog-nized the voice. She said, “Closeenough.” I then felt like everythingwould be ok.

Logan Regional couldn’t help mebecause they don’t have the equipmentto deal with what would be a majorbleed possibility. So I rode an ambu-lance to McKay Dee, about an houraway. I wasn’t operated on for anotherfive days. My pelvis on the right sidewas in several pieces, and the jointwas crushed. At one point in thatwaiting period, they decided they weregoing to move me a bit. Even thoughI begged them not to, they thoughtthey knew better than I did, so theygathered about six people to do it“very carefully”. YEAH RIGHT!! MyHusband later said, “I didn’t know shewas capable of that volume.” That ishilarious, as I am not quiet.

They cut me open and puzzled meback together with a plate, and lotsof screws and a bolt in my spine andI began the process of mending.

It was a long winter. My husbandwas still recovering from a brokenneck; my Mother passed away, and Iwas confined to my bed. Many weekshad passed before I was able to transi-tion to a wheelchair. Boy, was Icranky and frustrated. I graduated to acane and walker after months and triedto keep a halfway decent attitude.Truthfully, my hand and shoulder gotso sore from pressing hard on the canein my determination to be free of the

wheelchair! My hands were so strainedthat playing the piano became difficultand not fun nor satisfying like itshould have been. One of my grand-daughters told her mama that shethought I hated the grandkids. It wasso hard to chase them and keep themsafe when I was in charge that Iguessed my pain and frustration andfear easily showed through to a child.Oooooops!

Then seven months later, they cutme open, took out all the screws andthe plate, but not the bolt in my spine. They sawed off the top of my femurand hammered and screwed in somejoint hardware so I can now walkagain. The doctors didn’t want to takeout the bolt-ever, but I needed it out!You see, 17 days before the wreck Iwas organizing a karate tournament, where I was also to serve as a judge.Three months prior to the accident, Iwas in a tap dance in a 50-yearanniversary celebration of my childhooddance studio! In the spring, I had beenmy daughter’s partner for a 20 unitBlack Belt test. CLEARLY I was notgoing to put up with being handi-capped. I talked a friend into helpingme rehabilitate, and I have followedhis direction, well, pretty darn well-not perfectl y! < /span>

That was the hard part. Now I will tell you both the easy

part AND THE MIRACLE of it. Myfamily owns an Olympic GymnasticsGym, and we use Genesis Pure prod-ucts for the performance enhancing ben-efits. I had been casually using thenutritional product since 2007. I hadexperienced the benefits prior to myaccident and knew that if I were toheal quickly and properly I would need

to focus on my nutritional health notjust taking pharmaceutical poisons. Ireasoned that if the product was thevery best in the world for enhancingsports performance, sustaining wellnessthrough nutrition-then that was what Iwas going to give my body to help itheal. After all, I may only have onechance to mend this damage.

I was completely resistant to usingpain medication. While I am not amasochistic pain lover, I didn't want tocreate a bio-chemical conundrum thatwould interfere with the mending ofmy bones. I worried taking syntheticpharmaceuticals would create toxins Icouldn' t eliminate, and there is theaddiction concern. However, I knewIwould need to use them. I also knewthat the correct balance of nutrientswould mend my bones and help mecleanse toxins. Genesis Pure has amantra of Cleanse- Balance and Build, and that is exactly what I was going todo.

I never imagined I would be awalking testimonial - but then again Iam blessed to be walking.

During my recovery, I created myprotocol for recovery using GenesisPure products. Those products includedOrganic Sulfur, Daily Build, GoYin,Hydration, PRO- ARGENINE, Energydrink, Coral Calcium and LiquidCleanse.

I would advocate this process foranyone wanting to restore their healthand wellness. Of course, you shouldalways consult with your physicianbefore starting any nutritional protocolas even the best nutrients in the worldcan create an adverse affect whencombined with some medications.

I am happy to report I am ridingthe roads again and gleefully able todo handstands (carefully).

MILLIONSof women are driven to dis-traction obsessed with

plucking the one (or more) annoying chin hair tat has croppedup out of no-where. Leg hair is not stiff and prickly with a rootso deep it must start in China - that it hurts when you pluck itout. And they tend to be black (or gray) and witch-like. Somaybe witches have chin hairs not because they are ugly, wiz-ards of the forest, casting spells on innocent passer-by’s - butthey are in menopause.

IT'S HORMONES LADIES. THAT'S ALL - HORMONES. Women who reach menopause sometimes notice an undesirable

phenomenon--increased facial hair growth. This is normal and nota cause for concern. However, many women view this as a cos-metic problem and seek to remove the unwanted hair. Hormonalchanges are responsible for the new mustache- and chin-area hairs.

Dr. Oz reports that it can be an unwelcome change formenopausal women, because of hormone changes. About 30percent of women report unwanted hair on the face as they expe-rience hormone changes later in life. The culprit is too muchtestosterone. It can also be a symptom of polycystic ovarian syn-drome or by the loss of estrogen after menopause, which accel-erates hair growth.

Excess hair is generally a harmless condition, but you cantreat it a number of ways, including bleaching, plucking, laser

therapy, or electrolysis. If you're going to wax any part of yourbody, ask to have room-temperature wax. Hot wax; the coolerkind will do less damage as the wax rips the hair and folliclefrom our skin. You should wait if you are taking steroidal med-ications like Accutane if you are considering waxing- it can ripyour fragile skin. For many women, they will experienceimprovement when they lose weight as that will reduce estrogendominance or the storing of testosterone in fat cells.

"Estrogen affects every body organ system, including skin.Estrogen receptors appear to be most abundant around the face, genital area lower limbs. That means these areas are most vul-nerable to reduced amounts of circulating estrogen, reports theDermatological Society. Thus, skin conditions involving theseareas, such as unwanted hair, are more common in peri- andpost-menopausal women than in their younger counterparts.Having more hair than desired is more common in women whodo not use hormone replacement therapy." Livestrong.com

So what do you do. Some women have a serious imbalancethat will result in the onslaught of great furriness. Talk to yourdoctor about testing your levels of testosterone. In menopause,it isn't that you need more estrogen, but more likely that youshould add progesterone to balance your hormone deficiencies.

THE HISTORY OF THIS RECIPE It was served in the famous

"Brown Derby" restaurant inHollywood, California. It was pre-pared & served with grapefruit sec-tions in center of cake. I've foundthis makes a puddled center so I' veexcluded the grapefruit sections incake. This recipe has been requestedin almost every wedding cake I'veever. Enjoy!

GRAPEFRUIT CAKE For a simply perfect every time

cake, I use a "Betty Crocker" whitecake mix.

Simply replace the water in recipewith white grapefruit juice.(Always purchase glass orplastic container (nevermetal) for grapefruitjuice.) follow directionson mix & bake accordingto pan size of choice.

*note: if you bake yourcakes at at lower temp of325 degrees your cakes willbake more evenly & you won'thave the high center.

GRAPEFRUIT FROSTING 1 2lb. Bag of powdered sugar. 1 1/2 pkg. cream cheese, softened. 1 stick of butter. (Not margarine) Grapefruit juice

Blend cream cheese &butter until whippedsmoothly. Slowly addgrapefruit juice alter-nately with powderedsugar until desired con-

sistency. So not add toomuch liquid. This icing is

stable enough to use to pipeborders but not great for fancier dec-orated cakes. This is dessert thateveryone will love. For weddingcakes I use buttercream decoratoricing & use the cream cheese icingin between layers. Works well & stilltastes amazing. Enjoy.
