Don't miss diverse music, award-winning ribs, and the

beautiful downtown atmosphere!

SLEEPING ON SIDEWALKS An acoustic/indie group hailing from Davenport, Iowa. Band members Becca Huber, Trevor Granstrom, and Josh Coughran all attend Pleasant Valley High School. The band frequently appears in Battle of the Bands competitions, having recently won the Youth Advisory Councils Battle of the Bands held at the River Music Experience.

BOOTHILL RIDGE is an up and coming contemporary country group, that specializes in full four part harmonies and high energy stage shows. The band consists of 5 members aging from 18 to 23. The group’s lead singer, Kodi Lynn, has been performing in front of audiences since age 5. Kodi was a finalist in the Jimmy Dean Country Showdown, and the Colgate Showdown. She has performed for the Festival of Trees, Music City Dance Competition in Nashville, countless festivals, fairs, and pageants. Guitarist, pianist and band manager, Derek Frank, studied music at Eastern Illinois University. While there, he studied percussion and music education. He is currently the Lesson Studio Coordinator at the River Music Experience, and teaches drum and guitar lessons there. Guitarist, Tyler Kargl, shines through with his fast finger picking and crystal clear harmonies. Tyler was a finalist in the Illinois State Fair talent show. Bass player, Dusty Bausch, is the heart of the rhythm section in the band. His solid foundation and unique bass lines bring a lot of style to the music. Drummer, Todd Rolfs, is currently studying music at Western Illinois University.

ELLIS KELL BAND Since the band performed for the first time on Feb. 3, 1990 at Rascals in Moline, the band has received the following awards and recognition... 1994 Q. C. Times Reader's Choice for Favorite Musician/Band 1995 Oil Music Magazine People's Choice for Blues Band 1996 Q.C. Times Readers' Choice for Best Musician/Band 1996 River Cities Reader "Best Award" for Local Blues Band 1997 Q.C. Times Reader's Choice Award - Favorite Local Band 1997 River Cities Reader "Best Award" for Local Blues Band 1997 River Cities Reader "Best Award" for Local Band 1998 Q.C. Times Reader's Choice Award - Favorite Local Band 2000 Dispatch/Argus Reader's Choice Award - Favorite Local CD Release 2003 River Cities Reader "Best Award" for Local Blues Band 2004 River Cities Reader "Best Award" for Local Blues Band 2005 River Cities Reader "Best Award" for Local Blues Band 2006 River Cities Reader "Best Award" for Local Blues Band.

ANDREW LANDERS PROJECT Three minutes with Andrew Landers, of Muscatine, Iowa, is time well spent. He speaks his truth with creativity, texture, soul, and wit in music that ranges from acoustic folk simplicity to blues-rock intensity. Andrew Landers world is full of metaphor and meaning. His songs have no place for superfluous embellishments or throwaway lines, his world is honest, clever, and profound. A guitar player whose percussive and melodic style is an experience in itself. Alternate tunings and cut capos find tonal textures you have never heard before.

THE NADAS have sold more than 75,000 albums through their own Authentic Records, including 2003’s Transceiver and 2005’s Listen Through the Static. Called the “Best College Band You’ve Never Heard Of” by Playboy, had one of their songs (Walk Away) become the official elimination song on Speed Channel’s “Pinks” show, and were one of the final four bands for Bon Jovi’s Have a Nice Day band competition — all the while steadily touring the country in Meatloaf’s old tour bus.

FIRESALE is a young progressive rock band from Davenport, Iowa who has been playing together for almost two years. The band makes many showings at parties and other private events, as well as local festivals. Aside from covers, the band also plays their own original music.

SARA ANGELIQUE is a young pianist/vocalist from Bettendorf, IA. Sara writes her own unique songs and draws influence from as many musical sources as possible. She has appeared at Riverssance and other popular Quad City locations.

THE HUE, an instrumental progressive rock quartet, strives to forge a wholly unique brand of electrified music out of a diverse palate of influences that run the gamut from jazz to metal, classical and post-rock.

RUDE PUNCH was formed by three guys from Davenport, Iowa in the Spring of 2006.Brady Jager, Adam Tucker and Robb Laake have been playing together since they went to high school together in Davenport. Playing in a couple different bands, they noticed that when band practice was over they would meet up together outside of their other bands and play the music they really wanted to play...Reggae. At first they would just jam covers of their favorite bands Sublime, 311, and of course Bob Marley. After the other bands broke-up they decided to take their new band on as their full project. From 2004-2006 they practiced and began writing songs. In the spring of 2006 Rude Punch began playing some shows for their friends' parties and some local bars, creating a good fan-base of "life-loving, partying, dancing, have-a-good-time people". Rude Punch finished their first album in Galena, Illinois at M- studios in the fall of 2006. With that c.d. they took their sound on the road playing shows in Iowa, Illinois,

Wisconsin, Nebraska, Florida, and Texas creating small networks of fans round the midwest and south.Rude Punch's original songs and drive to play for people who need real music have earned them a local and regional reputation as a band with exciting songs that likes to have a good time. Playing with acts such as The Wailers, Pepper, Everclear, Joseph Israel and Josh Fischel of Bargain Music, while working with regional bands has created a solid fanbase for them to tour on in 2008.

THE UNIPHONICS in May 2007, formed out of the Iowa City music scene to compete in Euforquestra’s Battle of the Bands for a performance slot at the annual music festival, Camp Euforia. Since then, they have been well received in many venues across Iowa and in Illinois. The Uniphonics are quickly becoming a staple in many venues and festivals across in the Tri-State area. Imagine a sound that consolidates a plethora of musical styles into a tightly wound booty groove. Innovative jazz-funk infused hip-hop combined with MC Animosity’s passionate content driven lyrics creates a dance party atmosphere for everyone. Expect an interactive high energy performance that breaks the barrier between the musicians and audience. Join the rest of The Uniphonics Family and become a part of the show.

PUBLIC PROPERTY “Despite a wholesale instrumental personnel makeover since last year’s stunning “What’s Goin’ Down,” Public Property’s third disc in as many years continues the band’s meteoric upward arc as they continue to fashion some of the most ebullient, infectious reggae/ska-based island music anywhere. Charismatic Hawaii-born frontman Dave Bess and the vocal trio of Mareva Minerbi, Margaret Larson and Georgette Stern remain the group’s bedrock, with Bess’ uncanny Marley-esque raspy crooning style elegantly shadowed by the girls’ ethereal, I Threes-like chirping — all punctuated by percussionist Matt Grundstad’s percolating rhythms. Newcom-ers Ben Franklin and Jeremiah Murphy lock down the rhythm section, guitarist/vocalist Andy Parrott supplies a non-stop blur of driving rhythm chops and slinky, serpentine solos, and keyboardist/vocalist Paul Hala adds varied, spot-on textures.” – Jim Musser, Movement Review.

WOODBOX GANG From the village of Makanda in extreme southern Illinois, in a little hollow called Vulture Valley, comes a "caustic acoustic cacophony" known as the Woodbox Gang. They have skillfully combined the American roots music styles of bluegrass, delta blues, folk, and traditional country with the aggressive delivery of punk rock to create their own style of music to which they have given the name "Trashcan Americana". The band is very interested in experimenting with the combined sounds of various conventional and non-conventional instrumentation to create sonic landscapes specifically tailored to the mood and theme of each composition.

THE DICK PRALL BAND Based in Chicago and born in Iowa, singer/songwriter Dick Prall comes to his easygoing – and sometimes goofy – manner quite naturally. In person, he’s charming, often peppering his conversations with clever asides wherever possible. Though he readily admits to enjoying the embrace of company, it was Prall’s exploration of what he calls “autonomy” that brought a whole new spin to his latest work. The crack group of musicians here, some of whom are bandmates involved with Prall's previous works, know when to add a swirling fill, and when to get out of the way.

In 2007, the citizens of Cedar Rapids rallied together to purchase a series of watercolors destined for the

auction block in New York. These five watercolors, by acclaimed 20th century American artist Norman

Rockwell, depicted scenes associated with an election day and were created specifically for the November 4, 1944 issue of the Saturday Evening Post. To complete

the Post commission, Rockwell traveled to a quintes-sential Midwestern town, Cedar Rapids, to study local

citizens as models for his series of images. In the 65 years since his visit, numerous anecdotes

and stories have arisen about the artist's time in Cedar Rapids and the creation of this work. This exhibition uses these five, newly conserved and restored water-

colors, along with numerous photographs taken by local photographer Wes Panek for Rockwell, to

investigate the many facts and fictions associated with Rockwell's visit and this set of watercolors.

WORKSHOP

Eastern Iowa Arts organization hosts week-long workshop with renowned artist Ellen Wagener, including one day event at Grant Wood’s Stone City highlighting Regionalist Art. Maquoketa Art Experience launches the rst of four seasonal landscape workshops, each featuring a noted landscape artist as the instructor. The rst of these workshops is in August and includes a two hour symposium with Grant Wood scholars.

August 17th- 21st, 2009 atMaquoketa Art Experience Studio and Gallery, 124 S. Main Street, Maquoketa, IA. Cost is $395 - Space is limited, and a $200 deposit is required to reserve a space for the workshop. For more information or to register: Call 563-652-9925.

This summer workshop is the rst of four seasonal workshops focusing on the natural resources and beauty of Eastern Iowa. This ve-day summer landscape workshop with pastel painter Ellen Wagener is geared to both beginning artists and "seasoned masters." The workshop will combine on-site studies with studio work in the Maquoketa Art Experience Studio and Gallery. The workshop will cover working processes including sketching, idea-generation, compositions, photogra-phy, and color palettes. Ellen will demonstrate and teach techniques to achieve descriptive and evocative landscapes from any location. Special emphasis will be given to pastel technique, support mediums, and approaches to framing. The workshop will also include opportunities to attend lectures at the Figge Art Museum and the Dubuque Museum of Art, where Ellen will discuss her work and inuences.

The nal day’s events will begin in Stone City, the site of Grant Wood’s Stone City Art Colony and will be open to participants who are only able to attend for one day (fee: $85). Ellen will be joined in landscape painting by Maquoketa Art Experience resident artists Rose Frantzen, Charles Morris, and Thomas Metcalf. From 3 to 5pm, at the historic General Store Pub, a symposium will be held with prominent Grant Wood scholars looking at Stone City’s Regionalist history. This will lead to a discussion of possibilities for Neo-Regionalists in Eastern Iowa.

Maquoketa Art Experience is dedicated to bringing accomplished artists to Maquo-keta, Iowa for short- and long-term residencies, workshops, and exhibitions. Springing up in one of the Grant Wood Scenic Byway communities, Maquoketa Art Experience exists to nurture artists and provide opportunities for developing art-related businesses in the area. Recognizing what Grant Wood saw in Iowa, Iowans and the surrounding landscapes, the artists and board of Maquoketa Art Experience are dedicated to creating easily accessible resources for Midwest artists. Similar to the Stone City Art Colony of the last century, Maquoketa Art Experience is committed to supporting arts and artists by creating local opportunities for artists to nurture and expand their talents and skills within the inspiring landscapes of Eastern Iowa. JOSEPH WALTER was born on July 5, 1865 and grew up in Landeck, Tyrol, a town on the western edge of Austria. Originally a portrait and landscape artist, Walter was classically trained at the Vienna Academy of Applied Art and the Munich Royal Academy in the late 1800s. Around 1898, Walter immigrated to the United States and settled in Dubuque, where he would remain for the rest of his life. When he first arrived, Walter painted portraits and offered lessons in painting to the community. He was drawn to this area by what proved to be erroneous advice that Dubuque was in need of a portrait painter. Through Sept. 26

This is tricky without tasting each dish; a slight variation can throw it off. The other challenge is, and the main reason I love wine, everyone’s taste is subjective. This dish has an amazing amount of flavors. The char of the blackening will pair perfectly with the ripe dark fruit and spice of this wine.

BriceKen Burns' "The National Parks: America's Best Idea," a six-part, 12-hour documentary celebrating the virtues of the country's nearly 400 federally protected spaces, sets up camp on PBS on Sept. 27 and stays through Oct. 2. The country's most famous documentarian, who spoke last Saturday during the semiannual Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, is hoping to do for the national parks what he did for its battlefields after the airing of his landmark PBS series "The Civil War" when visits to sites such as Gettysburg skyrock-eted by as much as 300 percent.

"We want the superintendents angry at us because of all the Popsicle wrappers they'll have to clean up," Burns said. "It's

a good problem to have."

Collateral nuisances like trash and traffic jams notwithstanding, large swells of visitors will help ensure the park system's vitality and transcendent importance, Burns said. With about 275 million annual visitors and the green movement on the rise, it seems unlikely the parks will go unnoticed any time soon. Without the shield of the national park system, Burns argued, Yosemite would be a gated community and Yellowstone would be an amusement park.

The American-born idea, which Burns characterized as the Declaration of Independence applied to the landscape, spurred other nations to preserve some of their lands for the public. Today, more than 200 countries have set aside more than 4,000 sites. Asked if the lengthy series was a tough sell, especially in compari-son with his works about sports, music and war, Burns said no. "The drama is as dramatic as anything else," he said. PBS President and Chief Executive Paula Kerger addressed the key question of the year: that is, money and whether the earthquakes that have rocked the worlds of business and personal finance have caused a permanent change or a temporary one. PBS's local stations have been hit hard during the economic collapse, and PBS itself recently downsized by 10 percent.

"We're trying to be quite realistic about the resources we have available," Kerger said.

She went on to say to say that stations' budgets have been slammed from all sides: reductions in state money, university endowments, corporate funding and philanthropy. But there is good news for public television, she said. PBS is funded for the year already. The Corporation for Public Broadcast-ing will get $430 million this year and is hoping for a further bump to $450 million the following year. Tonally, one journalist asked somewhat rhetorically, is there a difference between the Bush administration and the Obama admin-istration in terms of affection for public television? "I guess the best way to answer that question is that coming out of the administration, we received full funding for public broadcast-ing, which is the first time in eight years," Kerger said. "So I think that says something."

Ken Burns has been making documentary films for more than 30 years. Since the Academy Award-nominated Brooklyn Bridge in 1981, he has gone on to direct and produce some of the most acclaimed historical documentaries ever made. The late historian Stephen Ambrose said of Ken’s films, “More Americans get their history from Ken Burns than any other source.” A December 2002 poll conducted by RealScreen Magazine listed The Civil War as second only to Robert Flaherty’s Nanook of the North as the “most influential documentary of all time” and named Ken Burns and Robert Flaherty as the “most influential documentary makers” of all time.

Dream Theater's 10th album isn't much of a surprise. Like most of the band's work, it's long (this one lasts 75 minutes over six songs), soaring prog metal. For all that, it's pretty good. Few modern metal bands so frequently aim to be so epic, reliably churning out albums full of bombastic, self-referential mini-suites, with finger-splitting guitar solos, tasteful piano-violin interludes and synthesizers galore. Most of it works. The albums are across the map musically but consistent.

"A Nightmare to Remember" kicks things off, and it's winningly gothic. But its 16 minutes give a good sense of the endurance required of listeners. "A Rite of Passage" and "Wither" follow and are the shortest songs on the album (8:36 and 5:26), basic melodic hard rock. Then it's back to the 12-plus-minute grandeur. Only the infrequent, silly death growls really miss the mark, though some of the instrumental breaks seem to meander. But at this point in Dream Theater's career, the sound is basically set, and so is the audience. With songs that length, the band is not going out of its way to become more accessible. Its ambition is impressive and appealing, as is its musicianship. Dream Theater is worth checking out, and this is as good a place as any to start.

If Kanye West's 2008 album, "808s and Heartbreak," was hip-hop's first emo record, then Kid Cudi's 2008 mix tape "A Kid Named Cudi" was the first emo mix tape. Playing the role of interplanetary outsider, Cudi explored the disillusion-ment and loneliness, both personal and professional, that can't be overcome, despite being one of the most lauded voices in hip-hop's freshman class. It's disappointing, then, that Cudi's latest mix tape, "Dat Kid From Cleveland," regresses to the hip-hop mean. Instead of a coherent musical narrative, the mix tape is a catchall for the one-offs Cudi released this year, and he does more posturing than pondering. The results are not nearly as charming.

The first two-thirds of the mix tape plays like an iPod Shuffle loaded with regrettable Top 40 songs. On "I Poke Her Face," Cudi is joined by his idol, West, and Common; the trio lazily trades sophomoric one-liners about bedroom behavior over a sped-up sample of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face." It is not until the mix tape's final third

that Cudi finds his groove: "Switchin Lanes" and the LCD Soundsystem-sampling "Can I Be" provide moments both unexpected and exciting. With his highly anticipated debut album, "Man on the Moon: The End of the Day," due this fall, Cudi's strong finish should remind listeners there's still plenty to look forward to from this 25-year-old Clevelander.

First ever cover songs By Alexander F. Remington(c) 2009, The Washington Post

KID CUDI"Dat Kid From Cleveland"

Having already sold over 45 million albums worldwide, ‘Footsteps’ is his first ever collection of covers and also features 2 brand new tracks. The 13 ‘covers’ on ‘Footsteps’

represent a personal and candid appraisal by Chris of songs which have influenced and affected the way he has crafted his musical imprint. Chris selected the songs by applying three critical principles: he had to love them, have sung them many times before – and, perhaps most relevantly, they had to have inspired him.“Listening to the great songwriters

was the inspiration for me to try and become a good songwriter myself,” he says. “I’m talking about the likes of Lennon & McCartney and Bob Dylan; people as good as that just don’t seem to exist any more. I learned my trade, my craft, almost at the feet of the Great Masters. And that is my musical journey. Those songs are my footsteps.” Two new pieces, “First Steps” and “Footsteps”, explain in greater depth his musical journey, his dreams and aspirations, and his sense of achieve-ment from hopeful beginnings to the success of today.Chris says the process of short-

listing the songs for inclusion on the album was an involved one. They are all, in my opinion, great songs – and each one has a resonance with me.

Journey, Heart, Bret Michaels, Shinedown, Big & Rich, Kelly Clarkson, Peter Frampton and Brooks and Dunn headline this year’s Fair. DES MOINES, AUGUST 13-24

Grand StandsSTEVEN CURTIS CHAPMANSPECIAL GUEST JEREMY CAMPThursday, August 13Tickets: $27

With five Grammys, a record-breaking 51 Dove Awards and 16 studio albums, Steven Curtis Chapman is a veteran on the Christian music scene. His newest album “This Moment,” his first new project in over three years, highlights the importance of embracing the miracle of each day. “This Moment” includes the nine-time Songwriter of the Yearʼs popular ballad, “Cinderella.”

Jeremy Campʼs booming voice and direct lyrics have won over fans with hits like “There Will Be a Day,” “Let It Fade,” “Take You Back” and “This Man.” Known for his energy, passion and sincerity, heʼs also racked up honors with 16 number-one hits, five Dove Awards and an American Music Award nomination

PETER FRAMPTONSPECIAL GUEST THE GIN BLOSSOMSSaturday, August 15Tickets: $32

A mainstay on the rock scene since the late 1960s, Peter Frampton has enjoyed a career full of accolades and 20 Top Ten hits including 1970s guitar anthems “Baby I Love Your Way,” “Do You Feel Like We Do,” and “Show Me the Way.” His 2007 all-instrumental album "Fingerprints" earned Frampton his first Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album. The record also includes the song “Black Hole Sun,” which was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

Veterans of the music scene, Gin Blossoms ̓most recent album “Major Lodge Victory” and its single, “Learning the Hard Way,” follows in the tradition of previous hits, such as “Hey Jealousy,” Follow You Down” and “Till I Hear It from You.”

BIG & RICHSPECIAL GUEST COWBOY TROYSunday, August 16Tickets: $38

With a mix of hip-hop, rock, and twang, the harmonies of Big & Rich have turned country music upside down. With hits like “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy),” “Lost in This Moment,” “Comin ̓ to Your City” and “Wild West Show” this dynamic duo mixes their distinct styles to create music without limits.

Creating a genre of his own, Troy Coleman, known as Cowboy Troy, has become the most prominent black country performer

since Charley Pride. His mix of country, rap and rock, dubbed as “hick-hop,” has been shaking the country scene.

BRET MICHAELSSPECIAL GUEST JACKYLMonday, August 17Tickets: $32

Rocker Bret Michaels has three solo albums with hits like “Go That Far,” “Raine” and “Fallen” and is also the star of the reality show Rock of Love. As the front man for legendary rock band Poison, Michaels has sold 25 million records and had 15 Top 40 singles including “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Talk Dirty to Me” and “All I Ever Needed.” Michaels has also performed with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr., Drown-ing Pool, Kenny Chesney, Steven Tyler and members of KISS.

Equal parts hard rock, heavy metal and Southern rock, Jackyl formed in 1991 and brought rock 'n' roll back to its down-to-earth, wild, fun-loving origins. Full of spit and swagger, their 1992 self-titled debut album went platinum and featured notable rock radio hits like "Down On Me," "When Will It Rain," "I Stand Alone" and, most notably, "The Lumberjack,"

SHINEDOWNSPECIAL GUEST REV THEORYThursday, August 20Tickets: $27

Alternative rock band Shinedown has had enormous success since forming in 2001, propelled by seven consecutive top 5 rock and alternative radio hits including “Fly From the Inside,” “45” and “Save Me.” Their first album “Leave a Whisper” reached platinum status, while their 2005 album “Us and Them” went gold.

“Light It Up,” Rev Theoryʼs 2008 sophomore album brings to light the pumping rock and tight vocals of a band who has toured with the likes of Hinder, Saliva, Evanescence, Papa Roach and Buckcherry. Their singles “Light It Up” and “Hell Yeah” have been used as the official theme music for several World Wrestling Entertainment events.

BROOKS & DUNNSPECIAL GUEST JAMEY JOHNSONFriday, August 21Tickets: $40

Country music superstars Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have had outstanding careers, selling over 30 million albums and

having 23 number one singles. Recent hits by the duo include “Itʼs Getting Better All the Time,” “Play Something Country” and “Believe.” Their latest album “Cowboy Town” features new favorites like “Proud of the House We Built,” “Cowgirls Donʼt Cry” and “God Must Be Busy.”

In 2008 Jamey Johnson released his newest album “That Lonesome Song,” which features his emotional heat, dark humor and soft contemplation. The albumʼs single, “In Color,” earned Johnson a Grammy nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.

KELLY CLARKSONSPECIAL GUEST ERIC HUTCHINSONSaturday, August 22Tickets: $38

Two-time Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson has sold over twenty million records around the world; landed eight singles in the top ten; and won MTV Video Music Awards, American Music Awards and has even been nominated for a CMA Award. Her hits include “Breakaway,” “Since U Been Gone,” “Because of You” and “Behind These Hazel Eyes.” "My Life Would Suck Without You," her latest single, jumped to number one on the charts in its first week. Texas-born Clarkson was catapulted into the spotlight in 2002 as the very first American Idol winner. Her superstardom was secured with “Breakaway” in 2005, which sold over ten million copies, spun off five top ten hits and stayed on the charts for two full years. Her latest album, “All I Ever Wanted,” was released in March of 2009.

Eric Hutchinson originally released his debut album, “Sounds Like This,” on his own label – Letʼs Break Records – and heʼs been breaking records ever since. The album debuted at number one on Billboardʼs Heatseekers chart and peaked at number five on iTunes ̓album chart, becoming the highest-charting album by an unsigned act in iTunes history.

JOURNEYSPECIAL GUEST HEARTSunday, August 23Tickets: $45

With hits like "Don't Stop Believing", "Any Way You Want It" and "Faithfully" and a career spanning three decades, Journey has firmly established its music legacy. They are also among the best-selling artists with two gold, three platinum and eight multiplatinum albums. “Revelation,” the groupʼs most recent album and first with lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, kicks off with the single “Never Walk Away,” a melody-soaked and guitar-driven anthem with the resilient air and upbeat optimism fans have come to expect from Journey. Yet Pineda hadnʼt even joined the band when the albumʼs first songs were written in mid-2007, and founding guitarist Neal Schon is quick to admit, it wasnʼt always easy to stay optimistic when the band wasnʼt sure what the future held. Since the new album, Journey has been playing for packed crowds all over the world.

Ann Wilson and her younger sister, Nancy Wilson, first showed the world that women can rock when their band Heart stormed the charts in the 70s with hits like "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," ʻStraight On,” “Even It Up” and “Kick It Out.” They continued topping the charts through the 80s and into the 90s with huge hits like “These Dreams,” “Alone,” “What About Love,” “If Looks Could Kill” and “Never.” Along the way, Heart sold more than 30 million records, sold out arenas worldwide and had a profound influence on rock music. The sisters reunited as Heart in early 2002, during which time they released a critically acclaimed live concert film on DVD and CD, “Heart Alive In Seattle,” followed in 2004 by “Jupiters Darling,” the first new Heart studio album in a decade, produced by Nancy and featuring 15 original songs. Since then, the duo has been touring worldwide.

SAVE MONEY TODAY AND TOMORROW | “Going Green is Too Costly”. It simply isn’t true that Going Green is going to break the bank. It is true that companies

adopting Green Practices save real money applied directly to their bottom line by taking the necessary steps to run a cleaner and more efcient business. New practices that evaluate and reduce energy, water, materials, waste, and other inputs result in clear and quantiable savings both today and tomorrow as they gain acceptance into your company’s culture.

CREATE A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE | ”Green” vs. “brown”. It’s a total mismatch. More and more success stories are being written each day around the advan-

tages Green Businesses are realizing vs. their ‘brown’ counterparts. Statistics show us alarming upward trends worldwide that customers, consumers, and businesses alike are more inclined to purchase and partner with established Green Businesses. Customer loyalty to such businesses is reaching an all-time high.

INCREASE EFFICIENCIES | “Lean and Green”. Analyzing your business from top to bottom with a keen eye toward building a greener and sustainable operation fosters

an overall culture of waste eliminate among both employees and management if implemented properly.

IMPROVE LOCAL ECONOMIES | “Local is the New Green”. Doing things like buying and recycling locally not only can reduce your carbon footprint, it helps local

business economies as well as keeping young Iowans retain residence here by creating stronger and more sustainable communities.

INCREASE EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION & WELLNESS | “Green and Clean”. Introducing a Green Business culture can have a positive measurable effect on your

employee’s motivation, morale, and wellness. Employees respect efforts made by manage-ment such as improving indoor quality, reducing waste and eliminating environmental toxins. This provides a healthier work environment and allows you to attract and retain key employ-ees who share your values and commitment.

5 Ways Businesses Benefitfrom Going Green

The Iowa Green Team, LLC www.TheIowaGreenTeam.com, is an Eastern Iowa based Green Awareness and Business Consulting Company “Dedicated to Growing Iowa’s Green Community”.

THIS WEEK’S GREEN RIFFS COMPLIMENTS OF THE IOWA GREEN TEAM:

Throw away your heavy metal rulebook: a new movement is preparing to hit “for those about to rock”. Gothenburg, Sweden’s

SISTER SIN are your new ambassadors of “street metal”.

Having grown apathetic towards the popular trends in Sweden’s hard music scene, SISTER SIN arose from the gutters of Gothenburg in 2002. Settling on their moniker because it represented their “bound to absolutely nothing” lifestyles, the furious foursome entered the local scene as a hard-hitting, undeniable metallic force.

Female lead vocalist Liv, guitarist Jimmy, bassist Chris and drummer Dave created a rough-around-the-edges yet relatable image of dysfunction and attitude. Backed up with fresh lyrics and gritty riffs, SISTER SIN set out to inject some of what had been absent from the heavy metal scene since the glory days of the early 80’s. “We just try to deliver good rock-and-roll music with the old-school touch,” notes Jimmy. “The style of music that we perform is an important part of rock history that deserves more attention.”

Some good movie picks for Aug.

Duke and Ripcord are two specially trained military operatives who join an elite international team called "G.I. Joe." This highly-skilled unit works under the radar, answers to no one, uses the latest in ultra-high-tech equipment, and does not accept failure as an option. Their current assignment will take them all over the world as they go head-to-head with an infamous arms dealer known as Destro and learn the dark truths behind the ominous new organization known only as "Cobra."

1. Director Stephen Sommers, best known for The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, knows how to bring the action. The way he sees it, this film is his chance to explore some fun, James Bond-like territory.

2. Not familiar with the "G.I. Joe" franchise? Not a problem. The movie is designed to be just as entertaining for newcom-ers as it is for old fans. And the writers say it's inspired by the early '80s comic book more than the cartoon series.

MAD MEN: SEASON 2 Set in 1960s New York City, Mad Men explores the glamorous and ego-driven "Golden Age” of advertising, where everyone is selling something and nothing is ever what it seems. And no one plays the game better than Don Draper (Golden Globe® - winner Jon Hamm), Madison Avenue’s biggest ad man – and ladies' man – in the business. Returning for its second season, the Golden Globe®-winning series for Best TV Drama and Actor continues to blur the lines between truth and lies, perception and reality. The world of MAD MEN is moving in a new direction - can Sterling Cooper keep up? Meanwhile, the private life of Don Draper becomes complicated in a new way. What is the cost of his secret identity?

RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN Loosely based on Alexander Key's novel Escape to Witch Mountain, Race to Witch Mountain is not so much a remake of the 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain as an entirely new film based on some key plot points from the former film.Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Anna Sophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig. Rated PG due to sequences of action and violence, frightening and dangerous situations, and some thematic elements. (Ages 9 and older) -Tami Horiuchi

THE SOLOIST a deeply moving and deeply human film about people and what, and whom, they connect with. Robert Downey Jr., who is effortlessly charismatic, plays Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez. Jamie Foxx also stars as Nathaniel Ayers (also in a stellar turn), a homeless street musician whose lovely music played on a battered two-string violin. Lopez's book, follows the halting journey of their friendship, and how sometimes people's lives can't be fixed. Director Joe Wright (Atonement).

DUPLICITYOscar® winner Julia Roberts and

Clive Owen star as two sexy spies-turned-corporate operatives in the midst of a clandestine love affair. When they find themselves on either side of an all-out corporate war, they'll put everything on the line to remain one double-cross ahead in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse. From writer/director Tony Gilroy (seven-time Oscar®-nominated Michael Clayton) comes the film critics are raving about: “Roberts and Owen have sizzling chemistry in this instant classic.” AUG.UST 25.

05 ADVENTURELAND A sweet and slap-happy mix of indie coming-of-age drama and Judd Apatow’s scatological but heartfelt manchild comedies, Greg Mottola’s Adventureland is a winning look at the pleasures and frustrations of dead-end jobs. AUG.25.

06WATCHMEN / DIRECTOR’S CUT The extended director's cut restores 24 minutes of connective tissue to the 162-minute film, most significantly the last scene of Hollis Mason, the first Nite Owl. Other elements help restore and fill in details that had been in the graphic novel. AUG.7.

07 17 AGAIN 17 Again is one of those half and half films--half of it is good, moral, and entertaining, and half of it is raunchy, mature in nature, and unnecessary. Starring Zac Efron from High School Musical. AUGUST 11.
