THE LIVABLE WALL THOMAS MCCORMICK 2/20/2015 The Livable Wall consists of eight spaces with varying constraints as to their dimensions, function and relationship to each other. Two ma- sonry walls are placed at the north end of the site to provide an anchor point for a series of trabeated structures that define the interior spaces and the outward form. The structure begins on the east end of the site in the form of Space A. This space functions as an entrance and therefore, it rises to 25 feet, well above the majority of the other spaces, creating a focal point through its monolithic design and a clear beginning for the overall structure. Space A relates directly to Spaces B, C and D while visually connecting itself to Spaces F through its verticality allowing the occupant a clear understanding of the circulation and location of spaces as he/she enters the structure. In addition, Space E separates itself from the other spaces being perched at the top of the two masonry walls on the northwest corner as a beacon sig- naling to the exterior viewer its location through its red lined walls. As the spaces move from west to east, the structure rises and the pro- gram transitions from introverted to extroverted until it reaches its apex at Space A with, of course, the exception of Space E. The goal of this project was to create a series of spaces that could be clearly understood from within and from without the structure through the use of proportion and the trabeated form while maintaining a division between introverted and extroverted space by means of the relative height of the spaces. The Livable Wall consists of eight spaces with varying constraints as to their dimensions, function and relationship to each other. Two ma-sonry walls are placed at the north end of the site to provide an anchor point for a series of trabeated structures that define the interior spaces and the outward form. In addition, Space E separates itself from the other spaces being perched at the top of the two masonry walls on the northwest corner as a beacon sig-naling to the exterior viewer its location through its red lined walls. As the spaces move from west to east, the structure rises and the pro-gram transitions from introverted to extroverted until it reaches its apex at Space A with, of course, the exception of Space E. The goal of this project was to create a series of spaces that could be clearly understood from within and from without the structure through the use of proportion and the trabeated form while maintaining a division between introverted and extroverted space by means of the relative height of the spaces.
