BLUE SUNDAY is a faith-based initiative to lead the community in awareness of children who are abused or neglected and the need for foster parents. Did you know:

− 4,424 Lorain County children were reportedas abused or neglected in 2017.

− Our community’s children are mostly affectedby neglect (1027) then physical abuse (937).

− Most children can be protected safely at homewith the right community supports andresources.

BLESSINGS FOR BABIES: The Baby Bottle Campaign for Birthright of Lorain County is from April 21st to April 29th. Please drop off your bottles this weekend, April 28/29. All donations will help Birthright, an all-volunteer, pro-life pregnancy support service that has served Lorain County since 1973. All services are free and confidential. They provide pregnancy tests, help with social services in the community, formula, diapers, baby food, maternity clothes, and clothing for infants and children. Thank you for being Christ for others through Birthright.

I wish to thank the teachers of our 2nd graders, Kathy Sampson, Sally Bansek, Mandy Bansek and Jeanne Johnson as well the Pre-School and 1st grade teachers for helping to prepare these children. Parents and family have played a crucial role in nurturing the seed that was planted at baptism. At baptism, parents made a commitment to raising their child in the faith. A child’s 1st Communion is a major part of this commitment but it does not fulfil a parents responsibilities as this is just the beginning of their faith journey. With the support of the parish community we help each other to live out that parental responsibility. Our baptismal commitment to follow Jesus requires constant growth in our knowledge of God’s ways and learning to incorporate God’s ways in our daily lives. The Eucharist, as Food for the Journey, nurtures, sustains and directs our lives on this faith journey. May we, parents and the larger community, be a witness to our 1st communicants of the desire and the necessity of coming to the Eucharist Table weekly.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED: Our Ministry of Care is in need of additional Eucharistic Ministers to take communion to the homebound and nursing homes. In bringing communion to those who are not able to participate with the community at Mass you are not only bringing the grace of the sacrament but the reassurance that the person being visited is not forgotten. This could be a monthly or a weekly commitment depending on your availability. If interested please call the parish office or talk to Fr. John. TRAINING FOR NEW EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: We are in need of additional Eucharistic Ministers. To be certified as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion one needs to attend a diocesan training session followed by a practical training session at the parish. The Spring training schedule has been set and the closest one to us is at St Agnes in Elyria on Sunday, May 27th from 2:00-4:30pm. Other sessions are listed on our website at: https://olqpgrafton.org/eucharistic-ministers. If you are interested in becoming a Eucharistic Minister please contact Fr. John to register.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER: When we were baptized, we were given the gift of a personal vocation to follow Jesus Christ and to accept the commitments and responsibilities this vocation entails. By seeing ourselves as disciples of Jesus Christ and stewards of the gifts given to us, we are called to recognize and use our God-given talents and resources as we go forth in mission. Becoming a disciple leads to the practice of stewardship that has its beginning in Baptism, deepens with the gift of the Holy Spirit at Confirmation and is nurtured by the Eucharist. In what ways are you practicing stewardship in your daily life? GLFF NEWS: Our next Family Mass will be May 13th at 11:00am. We invite and need families to participate in the various Mass ministries. FIRST FRIDAY FORUM: Join us on Friday, May 4th at 11:30am in the Spitzer Center at LCCU, as Ms. Camille Gill and Sister Mary Harwood presents “Immigration: Through the Eyes and the Heart of the Church”. Camille Gill is the Managing Attorney of Cleveland Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services program. Sister Rita Mary Harwood is presently serving on the executive staff of the Most Reverend Nelson J. Perez, Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio. Heading the Secretariat for Parish Life and Development, Sister’s responsibilities are for the parishes of the diocese across the eight counties of Northeast Ohio. SCHOLARSHIP: We will be awarding two $500 scholarships to eligible parishioners who complete the application form by May 14th. To be eligible a candidate must be a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace and active in the parish, or active in the church on campus were they go to college. Applications can be picked up in the Gathering Area, Parish Office or the parish website. To fund these scholarship there will be a second collection the weekend of May 5/6.

PARISH FESTIVAL: Our Eighth Annual Homecoming Days will be August 3rd & 4th. There will be entertainment, games, exhibits, festival food and of course fireworks. The website is now updated with the latest

information about the festival www.olqpgrafton/festival. This year our kick-off will encompass two weekends, May 5/6 and May 12/13. Please stop by the Festival table to pickup/purchase raffle tickets and some of the flyers we have available for distribution. FUNERAL LUNCHEON HELP NEEDED: Have you been looking for something to do in the parish but you have not found anything that interests you? How about volunteering to help out at the funeral luncheons. We are in need of individuals (men and women) to help setup, serve and clean up for funeral luncheons. What a great way to give of yourself to a family who is mourning the loss of a loved one. 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSAY: The Department for Marriage and Family Ministry, the Office for Worship, and the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist are pleased to announce the 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration. The Mass will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Mass begins at 2:30pm with Bishop Martin Amos presiding. The deadline for registration is Monday, June 25, 2018. A confirmation letter will be sent out along with instruction sometime in early to mid-July.

COMFORT CAPS: Our Ministry will have a sewing day this Wednesday, May 2nd from 10:00am – 6:00pm. If you have a machine please bring it. Even if you cannot sew there are many jobs that do not require sewing. Snacks, a light lunch and fellowship will be provided.

Holy Name Society Golf Outing: Please join the Holy Name for a 4-man Scramble Golf Outing on Saturday, June

30, 2018 starting at 9:00am ‘shotgun start’ at Pine Brook Golf Course. Cost for the outing is $75 per person, which includes; 18 holes of golf with cart, food, beverages, and snacks!
