Commissariat of the Holy Land in Canada

Good Friday Pontifical Collection on April 14th for the benefit of the Holy Land

The Pontifical Collection for the benefit of the Holy Places is scheduled this year on Good Friday April 14. Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called to support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives.

As a Pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the annual Good Friday Collection helps to maintain not only the Holy Places above all, but also the pastoral, welfare, educational and social works that the Church carries out to the benefit of the Christian brothers and sisters and the local population.

With gratitude, Father Gilles Bourdeau, OFM Commissary of the Holy Land in Canada

Easter Offering Collection - April 16 Next weekend’s second collection is the annual Easter Offering collection. Special Easter envelopes for those parishioners who do not use Sunday envelopes are also in the pews today.

Living the Gospel by supporting the Deaf community… Taavi wasn't engaged at his school or in extracurricular sports and as a Deaf person, he faced obstacles trying to join his hearing peers. His mom encouraged him to try to participate in the Deaf community. His life changed when he joined a Deaf basketball fun day hosted by Silent Voice and met Mike, Director of the Silent Voice Child and Family Program. He joined a Deaf sports team, began a co-op position with Silent Voice in his 4th year of high school, and was hired as a counselor in the Silent Voice Sign Language Summer day camp. He continues to volunteer at Silent Voice and says, “I’m grateful to ShareLife –supported Silent Voice and want to be a role model for Deaf kids, like Mike was to me.” Last year more than 600 deaf children received help through S h a r e L i fe -s u p p o r te d Silent Voice’s Sign

Language Summer Camps. Please give generously.

Pray for the Dead, especially

THE POOR BOX SPEAKS “I stand alone in the back of your Church ready to greet you, yet many coldly pass me by. You look upon me as just a box of wood, but I have a heart -- it is the heart of throbbing humanity. You do not know, will never know, what I accomplish for your unfortunate brothers and sisters. I am the antidote for pride; I am he who gives with simplicity. I am humble and teach my followers to give for the love of God.

“St. Paul said ‘now there remain Faith, Hope and Charity’, these three, and the greatest of these is Charity’. I exemplify Charity. YOU can practice Charity through me.

“I make possible the most powerful and the easiest prayer in the world; ‘Amen I say to you that when you did it to these your brothers and sisters you did it unto Me’. I keep men from despair. I feed the hungry and clothe the naked. I bring a smile to the worried face, joy to the sad heart -- BUT – “Without YOU I am helpless.”

“I AM THE POOR BOX. PLEASE DO NOT PASS ME BY UNHEEDED.”

“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live,

and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)

In Loving Memory … As we celebrate Easter 2017, we pause to remember,

thank, and honour our loved ones who have gathered with us in the past. For it

was many of them who brought us to our faith, belief, and trust in Jesus. As we

now celebrate in the Resurrection of Our Lord, we give tribute to our loved ones in

the beauty of our church. May this be a sign and symbol of our unity here on

earth and the glory and joy that we will share one day in eternity.
