DENIS BYRNE ARCHITECTS HAVE WON THE INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE COMPETITIONFOR THE NEW BORD GÁIS NETWORKS NATIONAL DISTRIBUTIONCONTROL CENTREATDUBBER CROSS, FINGLAS,DUBLIN, IRELAND.

The two stage competition was administered by the RIAI (Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland),on behalf of the competition promoters, Bord Gáis Networks (BGN), the national gas provider, in orderto procure a building of outstanding architectural quality with a high degree of sustainable design.

THE ENTRANCE CONNECTS TO THE SOCIAL HEART OF THEBUILDING, THE CANTEEN. A COURTYARD CONNECTS TOTHE OFFICES AND THE TRAINING SCHOOL WITH ACCESSTO THE ROOFSCAPE BY THE “SPANISH STEPS”

THE SPANISH STEPS ALLOW DIRECT VISUAL CONNECTIONS FROM THEOFFICES ON GROUND AND FIRST FLOOR LEVEL TO THE ROOFSCAPE

BICYCLE PARKING IS INTEGRATED IN THE LANDSCAPE.SHOWERS AND LOCKERS NEAR THE ENTRANCEPROVIDE FACILITIES FOR THE COMMUTER

A LARGE ROOF CANOPY PROVIDES SHELTER FORTHE LOADING AREA. THE WORKSHOPS OF THETRAINING SCHOOL ARE LOCATED NEAR THESTORES FOR DELIVERY AND STORAGE
