WELCOME BACK! We started the term with the arrival of our Picasso Cow, who was waiting
patiently at the front door. The Picasso Cow Project is an art and educational
program linked to dairy food, health and nutrition. Miss G, will be working with
students across the school this term to paint our cow.
We have a busy term, with many events coming up. This week’s newsletter is full
of important information and event news.
This week permission forms for our Grade 5 students to attend the Sovereign Hill
Costumed School were sent home. Permission forms for the Annual Kids Day Out
music concert will be sent home next week.
CYBER-SAFETY PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS Next Wednesday 24th July at 2:30pm, we have Des Hudson running a cyber-safety
session for parents in the library. In today’s world, parents are often at a loss
when it comes to supporting their children, as they navigate the sometimes
unsafe cyber-world of computers and phones. You don’t need to book and tea,
coffee and biscuits will be available. Our Grade 3 to 6 students will participate in
cyber-safety sessions earlier in the day.
PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS Interviews will be held on Monday 29th July. Appointment request forms have
been sent home with students today. Please return these by Monday 22nd July.
As Mr Brown is away, his interviews will be held in the week of Monday 12th
August.
2019 PARENT OPINION SURVEY Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The
Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of
Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected
parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’
perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our
school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning
and improvement strategies.
Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s
survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion
Survey will be conducted from Monday 22rd July to Sunday 11th August. Selected
parents will receive a link via the email address they have supplied the school,
with a PIN that must be entered to access the survey.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and
can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop
computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE MEETING Our next fundraising meeting will be held on Monday 22nd July at 9:30am in the library.
SCHOOL COUNCIL Our next school council meeting is on Monday 29th July at 7:00pm.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the beautiful Ballarat weather over the holidays. We enter the
2nd semester now which means the last semester of primary school for our grade 6
students. I encourage the grade 6 students to make the most of the time they have left to
be fully prepared for high school For grade 5 students I urge you all to continue to develop
your leadership skills in preparation for grade 6 and upcoming leadership roles on offer.
We will start the term off looking at information reports in writing and mass/weight conversions in maths. Our
inquiry topic this term will be Milestones in Australian History.
Homework will be due each Monday from now on. Please ensure all students have returned their camps forms.
What a fantastic start to the term the Blue Gums studio has had! This term we are focusing on
summarising what we're reading, along with comprehension, with students demonstrating these
skills by working hard in class time. For numeracy we are learning about time, exploring clocks,
along with other ways of measuring time including seasons, months, years, weeks and days. In
inquiry time we are exploring the Gold Rush, along with life in the 1850's. On Monday we had a
fun experience pretending to be miners on the goldfields using our school grounds.
I have been really impressed with the students active listening and eagerness to learn. I am having a great time
learning with the Blue Gums studio, with Mr Brown returning in Week 4.
Welcome back foundation students and families I hope you had a restful break. A big shout out
to all foundation students who read over the holidays, this was great to see. This term we will
be starting our new Inquiry topic on Australian Animals we will be looking at their natural
habitats and where they live in different parts of Australia. We are very excited about learning
more about our native animals.
We have a few projects coming up this semester and the Jr Studio. If you could please save your empty food boxes and
some glass jars with lids that would be super fantastic thank you.
It is still pretty wet and cold, if students could please have a change of clothes in their bags just in case they get wet
during recess and lunch that would be great, many thanks.
Happy weekend foundation students and families.
Ms D.
There are many things on the agenda for Art this semester. One of our priorities is producing high
quality work for the art show (happening in the beginning of Term 4). It has been great to see
students returning to the art room with positive mindsets and hard working attitudes. Self portraits
have been our first project.
We also have our whole school Picasso Cow project happening this term. Our giant fibreglass cow is currently in the
library waiting to be painted - with students across all year levels working on designs in the coming weeks. Each class
will also have the opportunity to suggest names for our cow which will then be voted on. It is a great initiative and I am
eager to see the final product our students produce.
Welcome back studio, great to see everyone return safely and excited to learn.
If students own fidgets spinners, could they please bring them along to class next week. I have
some great math activities planned, some of these require fidget spinners. If you don’t have
one, I will supply.
Also if you are able to bring in an indoor plant for the studio that would be great, thank you to those students who
have already done so.
Just a reminder a minimum of three nights per week is required, more if possible. Reader records are collected every
Friday. Please ensure your child is reading and reader recorders are in their bags for Fridays.
Grade 5 Sovereign Hill Visit
Grade 5s have their Sovereign Hill visit coming up on the 22nd and 23rd of August. There are some dress requirements
for this visit. Please refer to the information below.
AUSKICK Tonight is the last session of AUSKICK, a big thank you to all students and families from LBPS
who helped support this program.
REBEL SPORTS Thanks to the families who continue to support our school through Rebel Sport. We have
credit of $190 to spend in store. I look forward to sharing these purchases with the children at school.
SPORTS NEWS This term won’t be as busy as the previous term but we still have some exciting events to look forward to such as the
Futsal tournament at Major League, Basketballs comps at the Minerdome and regional athletics.
I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and I am looking forward to another great term full of
buzzes and achievements!
This week, in math, we have begun exploring division.
Homework will commence next week and please remember that it is expected, that all
students read a minimum of 4 nights per week. Reader logs (yellow reader books) are checked on a weekly basis so
please make sure your child brings it to school everyday.
BOOK CLUB Book Club orders have gone home and are due back on Monday 5th August. Orders can be placed
and paid for online, on the LOOP app, or by completing and returning the form attached with cash.
20% of all Book Club orders go back to the school to buy amazing resources for our classrooms.
MS READATHON MS Readathon is held every year for the month of August and has been
running for over 40 years. These days the funds raised provide Family
Camps for kids who have a parent with Multiple Sclerosis. The camps help
families spend time together, learning about living with Multiple Sclerosis
and meeting other families who are sharing their journey.
Children participating read as many books as they can and fundraise during August.
One student, Isaac Lelliott, has chosen to participate again this year. Isaac has Irlen Dyslexia which makes reading a
challenge but it didn’t stop him from reading 100 readers and raising $300.20 last year. This year he want to beat last
year’s fundraising total and aims to read 10 chapter books in August. Isaac says “more people should join and help
raise money for the camps, it also helps you read better. I like that it’s a really good cause.”
If you would like to donate or join Isaac on his fundraising mission you can register or pledge at
www.msreadathon.org.au.
