Listening & Speaking Guideline & Rules

Part 1: Mark breakout:

Presentations: (60 Marks) * Group presentation * 10 marks * Pair presentation. * 20 marks * Individual presentation. * 30 marks

Professionalism : (20 marks) * Participation * 10 marks * Attendance * 10 marks

Dictation: (20 marks) * Dictation 1 * 5 marks * Dictation 2 * 5 marks * Dictation 3 * 5 marks * Dictation 4 * 5 marks

Part 2a: Attendance & Behavior

Part 2b: Persona Day Every student will be allowed 1 personal day (PD). However, personal days cannot be used for skipping presentations or dictations. In order to make those up if they are available, you will need unofficial clinic slip or letter from your faculty. Personal days are for regular days only.

General rules of behavior: * Be on time

Accepted AbsencesNon Excused Absences (marks will be reduced) - 5 marks for each absence.

Sick with doctor’s excuse or other evidence accepted by Ajarn Dan.

Visits to the registrar office for class signups

Pre-approved absence from Ajarn Dan Ethics class

School or faculty activity that has been cleared through the IELE office. You must have a letter with your name on it and facility leader’s signature and contact information.

Other subject makeup classes

Family emergency 3 late attendance = 1 absence

Unforeseen accidents Family obligations: weddings, vacations, personal work involvement

* Do your own work. Do not cheat. * Be prepared. There will be no late assignments accepted. If your team member(s) are absent, you will still be expected to do your part of the assignment.

* Read all assignment instructions carefully.

PRESENTATION BREAKOUT

1. Presentation 1: Each group will be given an article to read and examine. There will be five questions posed for each article, and group members must carefully read the instructions and the story provided. The content score will be based on the student’s understanding.

Marks: In most cases, the entire group will be given the same presentation marks. So, you’re only as strong as your weakest member! This is worth 10 marks.

2. Presentation 2:

To be determined at a future time. Updates forthcoming.

Marks: In most cases, both members will be given the same score. So, you’re only as strong as your weakest presenter! This is worth 20 marks.

3. Presentation 3: Resume & Cover Letter.

Marks: This is worth 30 marks.

Avoid simple mark reductions. Don’t play on your cellphone during lectures. This is an automatic 2-mark reduction each time.

Marks will also be reduced if you are using Listening & Speaking time to prepare for other subjects, including the academic English subject.

Be on time to class. Late attendance can cost you 1 to 2 marks, while absences are automatically 5 marks reduced.

Professionalism marks are not automatic. You must earn them.
