Ans. The list of several micro and small business in the area where I live are mentioned below:

a. 2 small general stores

b. An Electronics shop

c. Shawarma seller

d. A vegetable stall/seller

e. Tandoor shop

These micro and small businesses in my area plays a very important role in daily life, because, you

won’t find any other big store or mall here, neither some market, these are just 2-3 shops in total,

but they play an important role.

As, one can find the small stuff or basic things that are needed in daily life in these small general

stores like candy, chips, biscuits, ice creams etc. or simple electronic stuff in the electronics shop like

cells or cd’s etc.

There is also a micro level business of shawarma seller, who sells shawarma’s that obviously doesn’t

match the quality of the one’s in big markets or big stores, but still, one can just compensate his/her

wish of high standard or quality stuff for it and get the shawarma if needed.

Similarly the tandoor shop, it contributes a lot in my view, because here in this place, you won’t find

any other tandoor shop, recently another one is opened on the other side of the road, but the

importance of any of the tandoor is not decreased, there is always rush on both of the shops, which

plays quite an important role in providing convenience to the people of this community as one can

easily bring roti’s or chapattis.

Then we have a small stall of vegetable, in which you won’t find a good quality of vegetables and

you doesn’t have a choice of selecting vegetable of your own choice like those in greengrocers of

csd shop or like those in “sabzi mandi”, choice is limited, but the daily use vegetables and fruits are

available there so still if anyone doesn’t need a lot of stuff and can compromise on their choice of

selection and the quality, one can buy it from here.

But, as these micro and small businesses contribute to the community, it’s very much important to

mention that, on one hand they are contributing to the community, but on the other hand, they try

to earn extra profit, and you can say, people are forced to buy products on higher prices, because as

mentioned above, there are no other markets or shops in the area, so if someone’s doesn’t find

their products here or doesn’t want to buy things on the prices they are told, then he/she h as to go

to either sadder which is quite far, or to “ashnaghari” or “kissa khani” bazar which are quite far from

here, so it was necessary to mention the negative points as well. As they play a negative role to

some extinct as well.

2. Identify two areas in which micro and small business has contributed a lot?

Ans. According to my observation and from what I have seen in my daily life, I can say that in the

technology area and textile area, the micro and small business contributed too much, especially in

the last few years, both the business areas have gained extreme level of expansion.

First, even if you check on local level, there was used to be only gulhaji plaza and bilour plaza, but

now, there are number of big markets, because there is splendid chance of being successful if you

start your own such business, even as a sole proprietor, you can be a successful businessman,

especially because of the load shedding problem, more and more people are buying laptops, and as

the advancement in technology, there is huge demand of such stuff, as they are easily available and

are very much convenient to use. If we look few years back, there was hardly anyone interested in

this area of business, but now because of the increase demand and a good level of profitable

earning, we can see that now there are so many of the micro and small businesses in this

technological area of business even in Peshawar, that it’s almost impossible to count the exact

number of businesses on micro and small level.

Second, because of the immense amount of profit with ease, the micro and small level of business

has contributed a lot in the textile area of business as well. They use to bring cloth from china

especially, and then they sell it for almost 3 times of the price they bought, so eve n if someone with

good sources and good contacts only sells cloths they can earn big profit, that’s why, now a days,

almost everyone is trying to invest in this area and tries to start on the micro level, with the passage

of time, these micro level of business are converted into small and then into medium and even large

businesses. I can tell an example of my own friend, whose family, started this business, and took a

shop on rent. With the passage of time, they build up contacts with good importers who use d to

import garments for them, and within few years, they had enough money to buy that shop, so with

constant effort they started work of tailoring and hired number of people for it, and now they are

the owners of 15-20 shops alone in Peshawar and now they even expanded their business to

Islamabad. As there were people who noticed this progress of theirs’ , so they also started the same

business, and are quite happy with their investment in this sector. Similarly, there can be hundreds

of other people who might have invested in this business that’s why we can see now a day that

there are many big markets of garments and clothes. So we can say that micro and small level of

business has made a lot of contribution in textile industries.
