The School of Medicine at the IUHW will: Provide medical education beyond World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) Standards. Focus will be placed on clinical clerkship in particular.

Develop curriculums with international focus. Students will learn medical systems in other countries.

Accept international students and trainees from countries in Southeast Asia and other regions.

Set tuition fees at the lowest standard among private medical schools and prepare scholarship programs for international students.

Have many faculty members who are well experienced in medical care and education abroad. In addition, faculty members from overseas will also provide thorough language education.

In April 2017, IUHW will establish its School of Medicine next to the 2 schools and 5 departments at Narita Campus. This is the first time in nearly 40 years that a new medical school is opening in Japan. At the School of Medicine, an innovative medical education exceeding global standards will be implemented with an advanced curriculum.

IUHW provides medical education with a rich sense of internationality and aims to nurture professionals with comprehensive medical care skills, capable of successfully engaging in both regional and international medical cooperation with other Asian countries in particular.

A new IUHW attached hospital will be established near Narita Airport in 2020

In 2020, IUHW Narita Hospital is planned to open. We plan to have 600 beds and assign physicians and medical staff with a good command of foreign languages. The hospital will be an

international university hospital which provides various meals including religious meals, excellent facilities, as well as cutting-edge medical services.

Group Overview

The IHW Group traces its origins to the establishment of Takagi Ophthalmological Clinic in Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, in 1910. Thereafter multiple health and welfare facilities were established, including Takagi Hospital. In 1995, the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) was founded as Japan’s first comprehensive university specializing in medical care and welfare, aspiring to train various medical and welfare professionals and improve their status. As well as four university hospitals in Tokyo, and Tochigi and Shizuoka prefectures, the IHW Group also operates Sanno Hospital, Sanno Birth Center and Sanno Medical Center, which offer highly specialized medical care coupled with warm and attentive services. In addition, the IHW Group also operates more than 20 other hospitals and facilities, predominantly in Tokyo, and Tochigi and Fukuoka prefectures. All 9,500 staff members and 7,500 students in our Group share both the university’s principles of “focusing on well-balanced individuals with a solid sense of humanity,” “directing towards the attainment of global standard,” “being strongly connected to and fully open to the community,” and “building a society for mutual respect and support,” and also our hospitals’ and medical facilities’ principle of “dignity and equality of life.” These shared principles form our identity and over the years they have provided the basis for the various independent organizations of the Group to advance together in unity, sharing the same ideals.
