This letter is in response to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request sent to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Office of Inspector General (OIG), dated December 27, 2009. You requested a printout of the IG investigations closed since October 1, 2008.

You will note that some information was redacted or withheld pursuant to exemptions provided by the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.c. § 552(b)(6) and (7)(C».1 Due to a software error, there are blank areas in random places that were not redacted. Fixing the problem would require reprocessing the entire file. Therefore, the missing data was handwritten in each blank space. However, please contact me at Regina.Raiford @oig.dot.gov or (202) 366-6131 for clarification of any portion of the response letter or the enclosed document with those particular errors. A total of 6 pages were responsive to your request. We are producing 6 pages.

The FOlA gives you the right to appeal adverse determinations to the appeal official for the agency. The appeal official for the OIG is the Assistant Inspector General, Brian A. Dettelbach. Any appeal must be submitted within 30 days after you receive this letter.

I Exemption 6 protects names and any data identifying individuals if public disclosure would be a clearly unwarranted invasion of privacy.

Exemption 7(C) protects personal information in law enforcement records. It prevents the disclosure of law enforcement information which could reasonably be expected to constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.
