How is our LNG coverage differentiated from our competitors?

• Data is accurate and current. Clients have switched away from our competitors to us specifically because our asset and contract data is more accurate and up to date. We update a large portion of our data on a bi-weekly basis – we feel strongly that our clients need to know that they can get the most current LNG information at all times. Additionally, data is delivered via interactive Excel files which highlight any changes to the data. This is a more portable solution than interacting with an online database for every query.

• Proprietary access to the industry standard in LNG cargo trade data. Critically, IHS Markit is the only company that can use IHS Markit Waterborne LNG’s data for its subscription services. These are the most accurate, detailed and timely LNG import databases available. Once data is collected through long-standing relationships and state of the art tanker trackers, then voyage-specific, commercial data is applied to every tanker on the water with near perfect accuracy.

• Community access. Members-only events provide timely and integrated views of the energy landscape. These include our signature IHS Markit Forum events, Client Briefings and IHS webcasts. Research is presented by experts in interactive formats.

• Ease of access to experts. We now have ~30 experts contributing directly to the LNG product lines. However, the integrated global gas team is much larger with a vast network of regional and technical experts contributing to the LNG team’s outlook.

How is our LNG industry analysis differentiated from our competitors?

• Provides a macro view of the LNG industry. The markets analysis delivers an integrated, macro view of the global LNG business from upstream to end market. This is a highly valuable addition to project-specific analysis since it provides the overarching market context to put more granular content in perspective.

• Insight into how LNG’s role could evolve under different long-term scenario assumptions. A trademark of IHS Markit’s methodology is long-term scenario analysis based on a complete energy balance. Three distinct views of the energy future are defined and the implications on LNG forecasting to 2040 are explained annually. Follow up research subsequently emphasizes how changing market conditions could impact these scenarios.

• The market briefing is a critical must read to gain a comprehensive view of the LNG industry. These research reports provide a holistic view of key macro trends, connecting insight from IHS Markit’s vast array of regional experts with implications for the global LNG market. The key drivers for our near-term supply, demand, trade and pricing forecasts are explained through this integrated approach.

• Trade is forecasted monthly as part of integration with regional teams. This level of forecasting is unparalleled in competing products and is the foundation of our integrated view of the global LNG industry. On a monthly basis, regional teams within IHS work closely with the LNG team to align near-term forecasts.

• Strategic reports offer highly in-depth analysis of special interest topics. The flexibility of topics addressed in private reports adds depth to our coverage of industry trends and drivers. The broader community of IHS Markit regional and technical experts work together to create this highly insightful research line.

How is the value chain monitoring differentiated from our competitors?

• More in-depth coverage of liquefaction projects. 120+ comprehensive project profiles are updated 2-3x per year with new profiles added on an ongoing basis. The profiles outline our assessment of project enablers and constraints ensuring that our conclusions about start dates are transparent. As PowerPoint files, our analysis is highly accessible and provides up-to-date graphics and information to aid our clients in building their own internal presentations.

• The US LNG Export Monitor provides the most current status of this critical exporter. It reviews recent regulatory and commercial activities at proposedliquefaction projects in the US Lower 48. It also includes a summary of the position of projects at the DOE and FERC, as well as all contracting activity from US projects.

• Market coverage is much more expansive and detailed. Profiles on existing LNG importers are updated 3-4x per year, with bimonthly updates to supporting Excel files providing clients access to the most current data. This data is often hard to track down, and time consuming to consolidate and interpret. Our clients have noted that this content results in significant saving of colleagues’ time. Our competition tracks markets with less detail and fewer updates.

• Wider trade coverage. Monthly reports on regional trade flows are unique in their comprehensiveness and timeliness due to early access to detailed cargo-by-cargo data from IHS Waterborne LNG.

• LNG Import Outlooks provide insight on the drivers and trajectory of regasification investment. Country reports are updated annually and concisely analyze the most critical LNG supply/demand drivers.

• Frequent, timely and informative Insights. Event and data-driven insights and webcasts on micro trends are produced on an ongoing basis. We encourage our clients to suggest topics of interest.

How is competition analysis differentiated from other offerings in the market?

• Unique service in industry which analyzes company strategies in the gas business. Company profiles on major gas buyers and suppliers are updated annually. These documents illustrate why companies make certain decisions by covering a range of topics including the changing procurement strategies of LNG buyers, the portfolio shifts of European utilities reacting to weak gas and power market fundamentals, the impact of North American LNG on major IOCs and independents, and the implications of price reform in Asian countries on local NOCs, gas marketers, and power companies.

• Flexible company coverage. The company coverage list is flexible and is influenced by changes in the industry, the emergence of new players, and client feedback.

• Transparent background data and information. While the profiles provide a critique of a company’s strategy, each profile has accompanying deliverables that provide transparency on how we come to our conclusions. The Data Sheet provides all the data, graphs, and tables discussed or used to generate analysis in the profiles.

• Insights coverage. Company-focused memos explain the implications of critical events in the gas business such as when a company acquires/divests a significant asset, when a company expands into a new segment of the gas value chain, or when a regulatory change impacts a company’s decision-making.

• Ease of access to experts. In addition to the gas company specialists, clients have access to gas and power experts that can answer questions on country or region-specific trends that could be influencing company behavior.
