I don’t know if it makes it harder or easier to be doing this report from Sunny Queensland overlooking Magnetic Island and the blue, blue Coral Sea at Townsville. Col and I have sneaked away for an extra week before we attend Multiple District Convention. It is a long way; a car trip to Melbourne, two shuttle bus trips, two plane trips, a taxi from the airport but oh, so worth it! Col attended the Dawn Service (I stayed in bed) and we both watched the Townsville Anzac Parade from the balcony of our room. I felt very slack knowing how many of you were out cooking breakfasts for the Anzac crowds. We have 36 Lions and 3 Partners and Family attending the National Convention this year for the 4 days. Next year, Convention is at Geelong over a 2 - day weekend. I am sure many more of you will be able to attend seeing it is on our doorstep. Thank you to those Clubs who returned their PU101’s to me so your New Club Officers and Meeting Details will be listed correctly in the Lions Directory. I hope you have all updated these details on MyLCI as well. Also, to those clubs, who returned their No 5 & 6 forms for Convention Delegates and the Convention Remembrance Ceremony, thank you. I hope no one has been left out. Also, please bring all your Activity Reports up to date on MyLCI as well. Again, any problems or questions, just contact PDG Joyce Radford and she will happily help you. We are fast approaching the end of the Lions Year, has it gone fast for you too? The next important event on the Calendar is our Club Members Information Day. Please encourage your new Members to attend as well as your club officers. I have been asked many times this year what Lions can do to help their clubs be happy, effective and strong in members. My answer is to be better informed. Knowledge is Strength. Our point of difference is our Strength. Come along and find out what Lions is on 27th May. The next important event is your Club Changeover, the most important event of the year where you have the opportunity to thank your President and Board for the past year and show your enthusiasm and encouragement for the new President and Board who you have voted in for the next 12 months. Make it a great occasion and invite your community so they too can thank your Club. This will be followed by the final District event of the year, the V3 District Changeover. This lunch has been kept affordable again, so District Lions

and Partners can attend without breaking the Bank. Farewell DG Andrew, Lion Kerry and his Cabinet and welcome DGE Peter and Lion Desma back from International Convention. It will be a great afternoon. There have been some changes to addresses and contacts: Lions Club of Mirboo North postal address: 55 Ridgeway, Mirboo North 3871 PDG David Lowing: 10 Benson St, Benalla, 3672. Postal address is PO Box 193, Benalla 3671. Endeavour Hills Lioness Club: [email protected]. Lions Club of Yarram postal address: 16 Railway Avenue Yarram Vic 3971. DC Children of Courage Lorraine Riches: Unit 1/44 Bourke Street, Mentone, 3194. A/H (03) 95831587. Also, a reminder: Please note, if you wish to order a Melvin Jones Fellowship. PDG George is responsible for the production and distribution of Melvin Jones Fellowships in Australia. His email and postal address has recently changed. Please address any applications as follows: PDG George Barnard OAM, 21 Pharaoh Drive, CRANBOURNE VIC 3977 or via email: [email protected] Please contact me if I can help you with anything or answer questions about any of the above. Now, I am going to watch Collingwood win the Anzac Game! Go Pies!

Wow it’s May already where has the year gone!!!!!!

As you are reading this, Kerrie and I are in Townsville, attending the final council meeting for 2018, and the multiple district convention. We have a strong contingency of V3 Lions attending this convention and I am very proud to be our districts representative.

One of the key challenges I set for myself this year was to increase the number of clubs regularly reporting their activities through the Monthly Membership Report (MMR) and the Monthly Activities Report (MAR). I am so pleased that through your efforts and those of PDG Joyce Radford we have been able to increase the amount of clubs completing these reports.

However there is still a lot of clubs that don’t complete their reports regularly. Reporting your activities is important because it is a printable record of the clubs year. The President can use this report to give accountability of the clubs year under their leadership.

It is also great to show a copy to prospective sponsors to show them what the club does and what they have achieved within the community.

The MMR is important to keep up to date for many reasons including keeping addresses correct so Lions magazines and other correspondence get to where they’re intended to go. Financially, so you’re not getting charged for dues on past members. It also allows Lions clubs international to know the amount of members, demographics and geographical locations. This helps to target

promotional materials to different areas, membership strategies and also allows them to approach such philanthropic partners as the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.

Never underestimate the importance of you and your club to this organisation and the importance of reporting your clubs successes.

Don’t forget the Club Members Information Day on the 27th May at Federation University in Churchill. It is a great day for all members to attend; no matter how long you have been a Lion or what position you are taking on next Lions year. I have been attending for over 30 years and I still learn something new each year.

Kerrie and I have a few more clubs to visit over the next month. The visitation to clubs has been an absolute highlight of my District Governor Year. I have learnt so much from my travels around the clubs. There are so many successful clubs in our district, all doing things different, but never wrong. It has been a privilege to see and to serve.

Think about your club visiting other clubs in different areas of the district or other districts. You can learn a lot from each other and they are a great fun and social night for all members.

Keep on having fun whilst making a difference!!!!!

Andrew McMahon District Governor 2017 / 2018

District Governor’s Report

By the time you read this article your clubs should have their officers elected for the coming 2018- 2019 Lions year. For some Clubs this has been a relatively smooth process while for some others it has been more difficult.

As Lions we need to be more pro-active in training and mentoring Club members who indicate an interest and /or experience in Club and District operations. Finding , training and mentoring good leaders is important for our future . We need to be on the look-out for younger members with a passion for service.

I would encourage as many of you as possible to come to our District Information Day at Federation Training, Churchill on 27th May. I would like to see an increased number of members who have not attended in the past, come along. As members keep telling me “you always learn something new”, and it’s a great way to meet and get to know members from other Clubs in the District. It is a

great way to share what your club is doing and to hear what other Clubs in the District are doing; what issues Clubs are facing and how they are going about solving them. This helps to prevent your club from becoming too insular.

The day helps us all to be on the same page regarding our goals and objectives, as well as our procedures, including the way we run our Clubs. I look forward to seeing you there.

Desma and I will be attending our Lions Multiple District Convention in Townsville in early May. This will be a time of training , being encouraged by great speakers and catching up with like-minded Lions from all over MD 201. Our next MD Convention will be in Geelong in May 2019, so I would like as many members as possible from our District to Register. Plan now to attend.
