Lions Clubs International
District 201 V3 Newsletter October 2018
It’s 201V3 Lions Convention Time:
Our theme “COLOUR MY WORLD” Lions around the world are adding colour to an otherwise despairing world. We add hope, build trust, support the disabled, build community facilities and above all have fun.
We all know the slogan “Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion”. This is certainly no cliché. Lions make a positive difference in communities throughout the world.
Lions, Lionesses and Leos, “roll up our sleeves”, and work “shoulder to shoulder” to make a difference.
By working together, and joining with other like-minded groups, we can brain-storm and create solutions to seemingly impossible situations.
“Colour My World” is a call to recognise and celebrate our achievements as Lions, Lionesses and Leos.
Lions Conventions are a great opportunity to be better informed about Lions Projects, be re-inspired by interesting and informative speakers, and to network with other like-minded Lions. Life-long friendships are also made at our Conventions.
If this is your first Convention, I trust you will leave having been inspired and encouraged.
Conventions are a great opportunity to make new friendships and have fun together, as well as participating in discussions regarding the essential business of the District.
Join me at our Convention in Morwell on 12th to 14th October 2018

A report from your
201 V3
District Governor
2018-19
Lion Peter Payne
Congratulations! Congratulations to Lioness Cynthia Robinson for her election for another three year term
as Lioness Representative for Victoria-Tasmania on the MD Sub-Committee.
DG Licola Picnic! DG Peter is inviting Lions to come to Licola Village on Sunday 25
th November for a casual
picnic/ fellowship day. There will be an opportunity to tour the facilities and learn about some of the exciting new additions/
improvements that have been added or are in the pipeline. The day will commence at 10.30am and finish around 4.pm. If you wish to stay over Saturday night, please book in the usual way. This is a good way for Clubs to book a house and have a social outing. Have fun!
More details of the day will be announced soon.
Healthy Eyes! Testing was done by members of the Lions Clubs including Mirboo North Lions. The members were trained by the Lions Eye Health Program ambassador using vision charts and a “state of the art” vision screening camera… This device, used in conjunction with eye charts and stereo vision charts, detects long and short sightedness and eye co-ordination. Screening is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye examination but aims to identify common eye problems and encourages
referral for a full optometric examination when required. Of 125 children seen 13 were recommended for a full eye examination. Thanks go to Matthew and teachers at the school. A wonderful activity for Lions. If you would like to know more please contact the LEHP program on the web. This site has contact information and a very in depth training area to explain the program.

“MY ENVIRONMENT” theme is purposely vague, so photographers are encouraged to use their unique insight and interpretation. “MY ENVIRONMENT can mean different things to different people – the good, the bad
and the dreadful!

VOTING is by depositing gold coin donations into the numbered ballot box corresponding to YOUR PERSONAL CHOICE of photograph. The ballot box with the most dollars collected is the winner.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM VOTING and 2019 201V3 LIONS CALENDAR will go towards a DISTRICT ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATIONAL PROJECT.
We encourage our Regions / Zones / Clubs / Lions to enter this competition and help make it a creative success. Remembering our DG’s motto this year of:
“Be The Difference – Create More Possibilities”
Through bringing awareness of our environment and raising the profile of this topical conversation and perhaps start to explore what can we as individuals and as a group do to “help make our environment a healthy one for future generations as well as ourselves”

Please remember that Club Registrations and District fee of $50 should be sent to me by the beginning of December ( cheques made out to: LCI District 201 V3). Addressed to C. Stevens, P.O. Box 671, Mt Martha, Vic. 3934

Did you know?
Dogs can hear up to 9 sounds
Training takes 6 – 8 months
A dog is placed every 14 days
Training costs per dog is $30,000
Having visited the Australian Lions Hearing Dogs Training Centre in South Australia in August 2018 to see “first hand” this significant Lions Project. I would certainly strongly encourage any Lion to visit this complex as it is only when you see the staff and the dogs “in action” that one can truly understanding the importance of this valuable service to people who are experiencing significant hearing loss. It really DOES CHANGE LIVES “one at a time” as it can mean the difference between someone being able to continue to live in their own home and resume to live their life to the fullest and participate in what we all consider normal daily activities …. Examples: answering the doorbell when it rings, turning off the kettle when it whistles, respond to the smoke alarm when it goes off, answer the telephone when it rings and so on.
A series of short ALHS videos are currently being released (around one per month) and these are being designed and made by a volunteer secondary college student. This is just another example of the skills and expertise that young
people can bring into the Lions family. This is an extremely valuable tool for the ongoing public promotion of the service and I encourage all Lions to take advantage of these video clips and pass them on to their family and friends to help spread the word about ALHD.
ALHD presentations including short video clips and up to day information about this Project can be arranged and I encourage clubs to include ALHD presentations at some of your community-based events.
There is a selection of ALHD products available as well as supplies of the 2019 ALHD Calendars and 2018 new Christmas Cards range. These will be on sale at the Convention on 12 – 14 October 2018 and I do have supplies in the car so when DG Peter visits your club just ask me and I’d be happy to help.
Online purchases can be done through the website
