• LION BRAND® crochet hook size H-8 (5 mm)• LION BRAND® crochet hook size N-13 (9 mm) • LION BRAND® large-eyed blunt needle

GAUGE15 dc = about 4 in. (10 cm) with smaller hook and A.6 dc = about 3 1/4 in. (8.5 cm) with larger hook and B.BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

NOTES 1. Romper is worked in one piece. Work begins at the lower front edge and continued up to shoulders.

A neck opening is made and then work continues from shoulders down to lower back edge. 2. An edging is worked around armholes and lower edge.3. Hat is worked in one piece in joined rounds from the top downwards.4. Eyes are worked separately and sewn to Hat.

ROMPERFRONTWith smaller hook and A, ch 47.Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc), and in each ch across – you will have 45 dc in this row.Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), turn, sk first 2 sts, dc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st; rep from * across – 23 dc and 22 ch-1 sps.Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in each ch-1 sp and dc across – 45 dc.Rows 4-25: Rep Rows 2 and 3 for 11 more times.

Make Neck OpeningRow 26: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), turn, sk first 2 sts, dc in next st, (ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st) 3 times, ch 27, sk next 27 sts (for neck opening), dc in next st, (ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st) 4 times – 2 sets of 5 dc and 4 ch-1 sps and a center ch-27.

BACKRow 27: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, (dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc) 4 times, dc in each of next 27 ch, dc in next dc, (dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc) 4 times – 45 dc.Rows 28-51: Rep Rows 2 and 3 for 12 more times.Fasten off.

FINISHING Fold front over back, matching lower and side edges. Place markers on each side of front and back about 4 3/4 in. (12 cm) from fold (shoulders). Sew side seams from lower edges to markers, leave the 4 3/4 in. (12 cm) open for armholes.

Lower EdgingRnd 1: From RS, with larger hook, join B with sl st around post of any dc of 2nd row above lower edge. *ch 1, sl st around post of next dc in same row; rep from * around.Rnds 2-5: Sk next row of Romper, sl st around post of dc in next row of Romper directly above last sl st worked, *ch 1, sl st around post of next dc in same row; rep from * around.Fasten off.

Armhole EdgingFrom RS, with larger hook, join B with sl st in underarm; working in ends of rows around armhole edge, *ch 1, sk end of next row, sl st in end of next row; rep from * around; join with sl st in underarm.Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

FINISHING HATSew a Pupil to each Eye, then sew Eyes to front of Hat. Weave in any remaining yarn ends.
