FRONT

Foundation Ch – 21ch.

1st Row (RS) – 1dc in second ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to the end, turn. (20dc).

2nd Row (WS) – 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to end. turn.

3rd Row (RS) – 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to end. turn.

Repeat last 2 rows, checking stitch count periodically, until 64 rows have been work in total.

SHAPING

1st Row – 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to end. Work 19 ch, turn.

2nd Row – 1dc in second ch from hook, 1dc in next 17 ch, 1dc in each st to end. (38dc).

Work 2 more rows of dc in every st.

5th Row – 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to second last st, turn.

6th Row – 1dc in each st to end, turn. (37 sts)

7th Row – 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to second last st, turn.

8th Row – Skip first st, 1dc in each st to end, turn. (35 sts)

9th Row – 1ch, 1dc in next 33 sts, turn

10th Row – Skip first st, 1dc in each st to end, turn. (32 sts)

Continue decrease 3 sts over 2 rows, as established in the last 2 rows, until there are 20sts.

19th Row – 1ch, 1dc in next 18 sts, turn

20th Row – Skip first st, 1dc in each st to second last st, turn. (16 sts)

21st Row – Skip first st, 1dc in next 13 sts, turn

22nd Row 22 – Skip first st, 1dc in each st to second last st, turn. (11 sts)

23rd Row – Skip first st, 1dc in next 8 sts, turn

24th Row – Skip first st, 1dc in each st to second last st, turn. (6 sts)

Bind off.

BACK

Work as for Front, and RS becomes WS, and WS becomes RS.

GUSSET

Foundation Ch – 16ch.

1st Row (RS) – 1dc in second ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to the end, turn. (15dc).

2nd Row (WS) – 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to end. turn.

3rd Row (RS) – 1ch, 1dc in each stitch to end. turn.

Repeat last 2 rows, checking stitch count periodically, until gusset measure approx. 100cms or until enough length has been worked to pin around the number. Do no break yarn.

FINISHING

With wrong sides facing and starting at the bottom, pin gusset around the edges of the number, insert the hook back into the loop and with the number piece to the right side, work 1ch, join number to gusset, by working a round of double crochet through both layers, work a dc roughly every 2 rows, with more on curves and points, continue to starting point, sl st into first dc. Turn to wrong side and join the gusset ends together with a row of dc on the inside. Turn to right side, and pin the back number to the gusset and repeat the join with the number facing, as the front side, AT THE SAME TIME, as sections are worked start to fill with stuffing fibre. As the end nears, fill any remaining spaces and finish the join with a sl st into the first dc.

Bind off and weave in all loose ends.
