I am the happiest Region chairperson as our Governor has given me two precious gems as Zone Chairpersons and add to the melody of my life seven Sapthaswaras in the form of seven excellent clubs.

The month of July was the busiest month for all the clubs as they had their Club’s Installation and doing one or two projects. Most of the clubs of my region attended the PST schooling at Munnar. Kudos to the District Chairperson Ln. Sai Venugopal who had organized the schooling in such a wonderful manner. A Zero Defect Arrangement !! All the clubs had done excellent projects on their Installation Day to mention a few

had given educational assistance and Uniform to a tune of 2.75 lakhs. had done worthy projects on that day besides their permanent project Medical Centre

which they run in a beautiful way. had organized a Blood Donation Camp in which they collected around 150 units . had done Serve the Dead Project twice , the uniqueness about this club is they take the dead bodies from Children’s Hospital where the parents abandon the new borns. They had done a Dine with Divine Project at an orphanage in Mogapair in commemoration with the Secretary’s birthday. Lions Club pudumai Gemini joined the District Chairperson activities on 1st July and donated a sewing machine and lions Club Nightingale donated 60 mats to Balwadi on that day. Apart from that had done Governor’s thrust area project Tree Plantation and they had done A Dine with Divine Project. I may have missed out some clubs they are yet to start but I am sure we will excel in all fields and build beautiful lives of the needy by extending our helping hands wherever needed !! I thank once again our Governor for choosing the Best for me, I should also feel proud to mention that our Region was one of the Regions which completed its obligation towards the district before the given time.

We also dedicated each issue of Lion Arise magazine to each Past District Governor per month and focus will be on their slogan as theme of the month. We will also have their interview in that issue focusing their achievements. I have received many appreciations from other districts and DGs for this initiative.

our district for the benefit of our RCPs and ZCPs. The secretary Lion CC Johnny committee of hosts include Lions club of Green Park, Lion Club of and Cabinet Treasurer Lion Metro West, Lions Club of Madras City and Lions Club of Pudur G.Gopalan who have taken along with many individual lions who have supported the event as their valuable time off to host. However it was the effort of Convention team of Chairman support this year along with Lion P N Ravi, co-chairman Lion Dr.Balasubramanian, Secretary me to serve the district. Then Lion Vijayakumar and Treasurer Lion Elango who made the event m y R e g i o n a n d Z o n e successful by their hardwork. I presented the entire cabinet and chairpersons who have detailed thrust areas to the district. Mega Past District Governor pledged their year of time and

success. The venue was Hotel Benz Park(May 15, 2011) and once again this was sponsored event by our Leadership Schooling DCP Lion Sai Venugopal. I have presented the policies and programmes and the thrust areas etc to the PSTs and IPDG and MCC covered the duties of Presidents, IVDG Lion S P Bhaskaran dealt with the duties of secretaries and II VDG Lions S Venkatraman responsibilities of treasurers. We need to thank Lion Sai Venugopal for his magnanimity to make this event registration free and more than 120 PSTs attended.

District Chairperson Orientation:

On 12th of June at Welcome Fortune Select Palms hotel, OMR, Thoraipakkam a memorable event first ever in our district was conducted by DCP Lion Dr.PV Parthasarathy DCP for DC Lion N.R.Dhanapalan felicitated the DG team and PDG from Orientation. This was a registration free event with a total 324 A1 Lion Mohan felicitated our MCC and IPDG Lion

R.Sampath who became pride of our district to succeed as MCC in the elections.

Region and Zone Chairpersons Schooling:

The schooling is the main event in any leadership institute and we conducted it in style at newest Classy five star Resort, Le Pondy at Pondicherry(from April 29-May 1, 2011). The DC for leadership schooling Lion Sai Venugopal and co-chairman Lion Anantha Narayanan made the event a memorable one by taking care at every sphere of the event. Only two persons

sponsorship by magnanimous Lion Parthasarathy. More than 150 DCPs attended and the venue is first time our district hosted here and everyone enjoyed the food spread and atmosphere. But the best part of it is the faculty Ms.Samadharshini of One World Academy made the audience spellbound for 90 minutes which I have not come across in the world of Lionism. The audiences were at their best with full attention and participation and all of them appreciated for organizing such a blissful event. The faculty was fixed by PDG Lion V.G.Narendrababu at free of cost. Our First VDG Lion SP Bhaskaran released the Mini Directory and it is once again a first of its kind in our District as it had the photos, birth dates and wedding dates and full addresses of all the DCPs and

stayed in each hotel room and it was enjoyed by all. The PSTs. We have also published e-mail addresses. Kudos to the Mini faculty was at their best in dedication and they are none other Directory Chairman Lion R.Balakumar for such a hard work to than our own Past District Governors. The external faculty make it possible in a short time. Contest Rule book which is a was Area Leader GLT Lion Premnath who took 3 hours of reference guide to PSTs was released by Second VDG Lion leadership and GLT. PST Orientation: Lionness Schooling:

This was the first time in our District such a orientation was DCP Lionness Lion Vilasini Subramanian conducted Lionness conducted to our incoming club leaders and it was a grand leadership schooling on 19th June 2011 at Hotel Sangeetha

Residency which was very well attended by all the lioness leaders. I have released the guideline book and inaugurated the workshop. IPDG and MCC Lion R.Sampath was the Chief Guest and motivated the lioness leaders. PDG Lion Sankarapandian released the leadership contest rule book and conducted schooling. Second VDG Lion S.Venkatraman released the mini directory. I must complement the hard work of DCP Lion Vilasini, CCP Lionness Prabhakumar, Council Advisor Lion Shoba Sundaraman for making the event a grand success.

2011. Main cabinet along with PDGs and PSTs(totalling 200) left Chennai on 21st by Trivandrum mail and reached Cochin on 22nd early morning and shifted to 6 AC buses onward journey to Munnar. The most planned event PST schooling was held at Gods Own Country Kerala, nature at its best is at Munnar and in the World Class resort Mountain Club from July 22nd-24th,

I am aware many of DCPs Lion Thiagarajan, Lion Raja Venkatesh and Lion Srileka them had given their personal money for the same as it was were also the faculty. Next day on 24th we have had a tree difficult to get from outside. I will touch upon each of their plantation program at Munnar and the valedictory function. As contribution in the next letter. I must mention Lion Sai there was no time to shop in Munnar we brought the shops to the Venugopal, Lion KS Kannan and Lion Parasmal Jain for hotel and everyone shopped in the hotel itself. The food was at its contributing in lacs for the district directory. Then the hard work best one could ever experience and it was sumptuous. We left of collecting the information and compiling, proofing and with sweet memories of the scenic Munnar and the schooling execution in co-ordination with the printer etc was done by Lion and safely reached back on 25th morning to Chennai. Did I forget anything?...! Oh God the main person behind the whole success is DCP Leadership Schooling Lion Sai Venugopal for organising the whole event flawless and a class apart with the entire schooling experiences in Lionism. Such was the planning and execution ably supported by co-chairman Lion Ananthanarayanan. The pilot visits and support of entire team and family support of lion Sai Venugopal requires complements and congratulations.

Leo Schooling:

On July 31st, 2011 first ever Schooling for Leo leaders was conducted at Hotel Quality Inn Sabari by Leo DCP Lion Manivannan. The schooling faculty was none otherthan our own PDG Lion R.Natesanwho took the young leos to a motivational level to reach the unreached. As our International President is keen on developing young talent we focussed on giving the right R.Mariappan and I must complement him for this stupendous ammunition to the future of lionism. Congrats to Lion work to release the directory on time. One must keep in mind Manivannan for making this event possible. that this time we had 4 weeks less and still could make it to the

deadline but it is because of the team of Lion Mariappan, Lion District Directory:

I would like to thank to our District Governor who gave me an opportunity to serve as District Chairperson activities. And I assure that I will discharge the duties assigned to me the expectation of the Governor.

After I took over as D.C. activities my first project was with the association of 22 clubs. The project at Thakkar baba Vidyashram, T.Nagar. To the anganwadi children we supported them Teaching aids footwear's, plastic mats, snacks were given along with the mineral water bottle. We have distributed sarees to the old age people.

stThe chief guest of this function was cine &T.V. fame Mrs. Uma padmanaban . 1 V.D.G. IInd V.D.G, C.S, C.T, R.C.'s, Z.C's, P.ST's of the 22 clubs participated in this grand project.

th thOur Governor pet project “Tree Plantation” started on 8 July to 15 July at soka I Keder College. Panimalar Engineering, Venkateswara Engineering, S.A. Engineering Colleges, standard fire works godown at Sri Perumandur, Brahma Kumari's Ashram, Meditation Centre, Petrol bunk at Sriperunander.

We have planted 1500 trees in above said Institution. We have attended P.S.T. schooling at munnar. I motivated the clubs to do many projects like free sapling; Each R.O. Plant Rs.10000/- student blood donars gift, serve the dead project will be given Rs. 300 for each dead body. My activities in the club will go in this way and club who are interested in projects they can contact me. So that I will organize the same for them.

All these projects has become reality due to the co – operation from MJF. Ln. Lalitha Mohanan, Zone Chairman and thanks to All the R.C's, Z.C's Leo and Lioness. I extended my greetings and heartful thanks to all of them.

PDG Lion Sankara Pandiyan was guest of honour, delivered excellent speech on Leadership, released a booklet on leadership compiled by MJF Lion Sundera Gopalan council member for Leadership.VDG 2 Lion Venkatraman released the mini directory. The faculty members were Lion Akhila Natesan, Lion Kousalya Padmanaban and MJF Lion Thygarajan. Contribution was made by DC Lns Vilasini Subramanian for the diagnostic centre.

stOn 1 July 2011, the Lionistic year was started with special puja at Navashakthi Vinayagar Temple, Luz in the morning. The first monthly meet was held at Sarvodaya Hostel for the less fortunate girls, followed by Dine with divine programme for these girls at cost of Rs.2, 500 sponsored by Lns Sujatha Titus Council Membership Dine with divine. Projects worth Rs.3, 22,568 have already been implemented by the Lioness Council (as on 19-07-11) by which 5158 persons have been benefitted.

PDG MJF Lion N.R. Dave who has given his thoughts in an informative way to the questions asked by me via e-mail. I am sure that such interviews would reopen the eyes of the new Lions and make them work with more zeal and enthusiasm.

“Build Beautiful Life” was my slogan as District Governor in 1991-92. As I have said earlier the Motto of Lions International is 'WE SERVE'. The Main pillars are Fellowship and Service. There are lots of people in the community who are needy and require help of Lions in overcoming some of their problems. When Lions join hands with fellow Lions and provide help and service to fellowmen to lead a better life than before; when a Lion by following code of ethics of Lions Club creates a beautiful life for the family and friends and when a lion through leadership qualities enables and builds beautiful life of fellow countymen, then He Builds Beautiful Lives all round. From 1917 onwards Lions all over the world have 'Built Beautiful Life' for needy and poor. This was the concept that made me choose the slogan.

1) My Pet Service Projects were Sight First and Eye Donation, 'Kanya Sharan' – to help destitute girls, and eight other projects like Hearing Conservation, Health Services, Blood donation, Drug Abuse Awareness, Diabetes detection, Community contact centres, Educational Services and Sports for children. There were nine Region Chairman who carried out the above designated nine projects for nine months. In short every month all the nine projects were carried out by nine Region Chairman on turns.

2) The need of the Hour is to practice value-based Lionism through Lions code of ethics. Whatever standards we- the Lions set up as leaders, the same will be followed by the community. Let us set up high standards and carry out service activities which will change the lives of our fellow men like Educational Services and bringing out excellence in students through studies, character building and value based Education, Environmental activities like Tree-Plantation and Rain Water harvesting and Citizenship Services and encouraging Public discussions on topics of great importance for national development. Finally I strongly feel that Lions should act as catalyst for Public opinion on topics of National Importance.

3) Eye donation or Blood donation activity can be carried out by each and every lion without spending money. They are need based and result oriented activities which perform miracles. Through Eye Donation, Gift of Sight is given to a Blind who otherwise will not see this beautiful world. Is it not a miracle? Through Blood donation, a patient is given new lease of life. Every Lion should make it a point to work for Eye Donation so that more than one Million Blind in our country can get the gift of sight. Every Lion should donate Blood as and when needed so that professional Blood donors are discouraged and healthy blood is received by the needy patient.
