Welcome to the 2016 Northwest Fly Tying and Fly Fishing Exposition! The Oregon Council of the IFFF has been sponsoring this event for many years for your entertainment, education and enjoyment. Our members have expended a lot of effort to make this Expo come to life every year. I do know that I am very proud of those who have given so much of themselves in preparing for and making this Expo.
Much of the monies generated during this Expo are spent on education and conservation, as well as several other worthy causes, I hope you enjoy your visit with, bid often and generously on auction as well as buy many raffle tickets for the wonderful prizes displayed.
This Expo showcases many of the best fly tyers from the US, especially from the Northwest. Sit down with them to get a
close view of what they are doing and don’t be afraid to ask questions. They are more than willing to impart information concerning their avocation.
We have a large number of vendors representing the best of outdoor equipment, supplies and services. Please let them know you appreciate their appearance at this Expo.
Lastly, thank you, each and every one of you, for coming to support this Expo. We deeply appreciate your time here. If you see a big guy in a brown cowboy hat wandering around looking slightly lost, it is probably me. Stop and say hi. I would like to meet you and personally have a conversation about what you like best about our Expo.

CASTING PROGRAM
Fly Casting Instructor Certification –
what is it? With the goal of ensuring that high quality fly casting instructor is available to the public, the IFFF has developed an international program to certify fly-casting instructors. Through training and testing, certified instructions learn to teach with common methods and terminology but also learn to adapt their methods to meet the needs of individual students. There are three IFFF casting instructor certifications: 1) CI-Certified Casting Instructor, 2) MCI-Master Casting Instructor, and 3) THCI-Two Handed Casting Instructor. Each of these certifications requires a casting performance test and a written or oral test. Regular continuing education opportunities provide certified instructors with opportunities for personal growth.
Casting Instructor Certification – what does it take? The most important attribute potential certified instructors can have is a strong desire to improve their fly-casting skills and knowledge and to share this knowledge with people wanting to learn to fly cast or improve their fly casting. Certified instructor candidates must also have a commitment to invest time and effort to complete the training process. To prepare for the certification tests, candidates
typically spend many hours perfecting a variety of casts, building knowledge of the casting mechanics, and mastering teaching skills. Most candidates take 6 months to a year or longer preparing for the tests. Successful candidates work under the guidance of a casting mentor (typically an MCI) who helps them navigate the training process. For those who are willing to make the commitment, becoming a certified instructor is tremendously rewarding. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a certified instructor, please contact Dwight Klemin (Western Oregon) or Mary Ann Dozer, (Central and Eastern Oregon). They would be excited to help you getting started on the adventure of becoming a certified casting instructor. Dwight can be reached at [email protected]. Mary Ann can be reached at [email protected]
