“LinkedIn Learning has been awesome for us, we had one of our admin staff take a course on app development and are well on the journey of creating our own software for an internal Continuous Improvement process that we currently pay an outside for $80K per year to manage. So, in that one area LinkedIn Learning will have saved us $80,000 and we now have a program that is ours and custom to us!”

Getting startedOnce your business has purchased a subscription to the Online Business Centre, they will be given licences to access the LinkedIn Learning platform.

From here your company administrator will be able to add you to the platform, when this happens

you’ll receive an invitation to sign up.

Important!

You do not need a LinkedIn social media profile to connect to the LinkedIn Learning platform.

If you already have a social profile then you may choose to connect your two accounts for

more personalised course recommendations.

You can also choose to only have a LinkedIn Learning account, and this can be completely

separate to the social media side of the website.

Choosing the right course for you The first thing to know about LinkedIn Learning is that every course has been verified and is presented by expert instructors.

The focus is broad and deep content across business, technology

and creative topics, and the content is constantly refreshed, with

more than 70 new courses added each week.

As you start to navigate your way around the site, consider the

following:

• Start with yourself. What is it specifically that you are looking

to improve on? What areas of your skillset need work? Be

honest with yourself.

• Think in terms of skillsets. There is a big difference between

a technical skill (eg. photography, app development) and

passive skills (eg. leading teams or conflict resolution). If

you can decide quickly in terms of the skills that you would

like to work on, you will be able to narrow this down more

effectively.

• Consider the industry your business is involved in and ensure

the course is suited, you can also search for courses within

your specific industry.

• Start small and find something that you are already

interested in. Begin with a topic or subject that you can learn

within 30 minutes, so that you will already have a win under

your belt.

• Set a goal – the platform has a function that allows you to

set a weekly goal, this will help you measure your progress

and keep you motivated and accountable.

Set a weekly goal

We’ll help you track your progress and remind you to keep learning.

Finding the content you want The LinkedIn Learning homepage provides four easy ways to get started and discover new skills.

Recommendations: These populate and update as your

interests change, driven by data from the LinkedIn network.

Skills: Self-select and edit your skills and interests to

discover relevant courses.

Topics: Explore courses across a wide range of business,

creative and technology skills.

Search: Search for courses based on skills, subjects or

even software.

Bonus tips:

Filter by popularity, to see what everyone

else is watching, chances are that there’ll

be a good reason why a course is wildly

popular.

Trying to decide if a course is right for you? Click the overview tab on any course page then scroll

down to see the job titles and employers of professionals

who’ve watched that course.

Getting the most out of the platform

Download the LinkedIn Learning Mobile app

This allows to you download the content to view it offline

without the need for Wifi/broadband, so you can take

your learning with you anywhere. You can also download

lessons as audio only podcast so you can listen along while

in the car or out exercising.

Download the mobile app - available on Google play app store.

Use the Personalised Course Recommendations

Consider utilising the LinkedIn Learning personalized

course recommendations. If you turn on this feature then

the website will analyse the content that is getting viewed

by your colleagues and your connections and will make

suggestions relevant to you. Pay careful attention to this as

over time it gets smarter and smarter to the content that

you like and are more likely to enjoy watching.

Just in time learning

The Concept of Just in Time Learning is extremely beneficial

in todays fast paced world, this is essentially the ability

to watch bite sized videos and apply the skills you learn

straight to your job.

For example if you are working on an excel document then

you can watch the ‘PivotTables for Beginners’ training and then

apply that knowledge directly to your business document.

Put this tip into practice:

Find opportunities for ‘just in time’ learning

using two- to three-minute videos. For

example, quickly learn how to create a

pivot table in Microsoft Excel or how to

initiate a difficult conversation.

Pro tip:

Before you add learners to LinkedIn Learning, send an announcement email to communicate its

benefits and to let your learners know that an activation email is coming soon.

Manage your learnersAdd learners conveniently:

• One by one: Easily add

learners by providing

their names and email

addresses, then assigning

them a role (admin or

learner).

• Bulk upload via CSV:

Quickly add or edit

multiple learners at once.
