456 Kids for ChristAwesome adventures, great games, creative crafts and other interesting “stuff” await you and your friends for 456 KFC. Each night has a great meal, fun activities and a lesson encouraging children to be like Christ. Back Stage Worship TourWhat happens behind the scenes to prepare for worship services on the weekends? Kindergarteners and their parents will tour backstage with Pastor Chris, interact with the band, and sing a special song the next day at worship. Special passes are required. Birthday Party for One-Year-OldsIt’s a party! A community birthday party! Meet other parents of all the children who turned one year old in 2014. Celebrate the first year of life and visit with other parents. Age appropriate toys and snacks are available for this celebration.

Children’s ChoirChildren in grades 1 - 6 are invited to sing for worship once a month at the 11am service, for special programs and services, Sunday School Christmas Program, Angel Breakfast, Palm Sunday, Christmas Eve (3pm service), and a concert in May.

Family Events Support TeamEach Elementary Sunday School class holds an annual special event based on their grade-level theme. Helpers are needed to plan, prepare and present the event. Please consider volunteering for this short-term commitment.

Girl Scout Troop 52945All girls are welcome in our troop. We have fun earning badges and going on field trips like Disney On Ice, Experience Music Project, and ice skating. We also enjoy weekend camping. Sixth-grade and older - Cadettes - meet at 5:30pm while the younger girls meet at 6:30pm.

Helping Hands for 4-year-oldsThe 4-year-olds (and their parents) help put together Thanksgiving Baskets for Mirror Lake Elementary School families. Children will have opportunity to decorate cards for the families and collect all the supplies table by table until their basket is filled.

Kick Off Sunday for 4-year-oldsSeptember 7 marks a special day for three-year-olds. This is their time to start Sunday School! As part of their event, the pastor will have a prayer, blessing time, and gift for the 3’s at the beginning of the 9:30 service. Children will then go to the Sunday School classroom, escorted by their parents.

Meet the Babies - Zero to One-Year-OldsWho are the other babies at St. Luke’s? Better yet, who are their parents? It’s hard to have conversations with other parents as you juggle your baby’s needs. This is a time set aside for parents to meet and share joys and struggles of having a baby in the home. No agenda, but a time for moms and dads to get to know each other.

On Fire Sunday SchoolWeekly classes for kids 3-year-old through 6th grade. We provide a variety of activities: class time, Bible Adventure, service projects, Super Sunday, Scripture memory and prayers. Children can register at any time!

St. Luke’s Cub Scout Pack 307St. Luke’s is the Charter Organization for Federal Way Cub Scout Pack 307, currently consisting of 1st - 5th grade boys. Do you have a boy or know one who might be interested in joining the fun? Hiking, family campouts, pine wood derby, BB guns, archery, summer camp, swimming, inner-tubing at Snoqualmie...and much more! Toddler Bibles for Two-Year-OldsAt two, children are like sponges and learn so many things very quickly. It’s easy for them to learn Jesus songs and Bible stories. Two-year-olds will be presented with a special Bible just for their age group during the worship service. A great adventure of learning begins!

Bible Study Fellowship (BSF)Bible Study Fellowship is a non-denominational Bible study designed to help people draw closer to God through the daily study of His Word’ and be better prepared to fulfill God’s call for their lives. Bridge ParentingWhen a child reaches adolescence, it can feel like a gulf has opened between the parent and the child you used to know. My twice-weekly blog offers tips and suggestions for how to build a BRIDGE to your teen, using Balance, Respect, Inspiration, Discipline, Guidance, and Empathy. Topics already introduced include lying, self-centeredness, and how-old-is-too-old-for-an-Easter-basket.

Financial Discipleship DevelopmentDid you know that there are over 800 pieces of Scripture that speak to our personal finances, in addition to the 2000 verses that speak to social-based finance? In response to this emphasis, this L-Team will facilitate discussions on how St Luke’s can open opportunities for Christ to transform the hearts and minds of individuals and families in terms of finance.

GriefShareA 13-week Christ-centered video/workbook and discussion format where people can be comforted and be a comfort to others while they begin their journey of grieving over the death of a loved one. The weekly video features some of the nation’s foremost experts on grief recovery. Each seminar also includes a grief support discussion group. New session begins September 7.

Hebrews for EveryoneA Bible study of the New Testament’s book “Hebrews”.“The letter to the Hebrews is one of the most bracing and challenging writings in the New Testament. People often find it a bit difficult, because it uses ideas that are strange to us. But, like meeting a new friend, we will find as we get to know it that it is full of interest and delight, with a powerful message that comes home to today’s and tomorrow’s church as much as it did to yesterday’s.” N.T. Lake Tapps/Lakeland Hills Small GroupCurrently includes ages from 35-55 (other ages welcome). We are discussing topical subjects and are studying the book 30 Life Principles. We meet on Wednesdays at 7 near Lake Tapps. It is a short drive for anyone living in Auburn, Edgewood, Puyallup and even Federal Way.

Learn at Thompsons’ Small GroupThis small group meets weekly to study the Word of our Lord through various Bible studies, St. Luke’s sermon studies, and various books (i.e. Hole in the Gospel). The group also volunteers for numerous activities at St. Luke’s.

Marriage MinistryMarriage can be difficult at times. Many problems involve a lack of understanding the differences between men and women and how God has wired us differently for a purpose. Periodically, classes will be offered to enrich the marriage relationship. Classes may be presented in a variety of formats that convey helpful information to not only allow your marriage to survive, but to thrive.

Membership ClassThis workshop discusses St. Luke’s mission and vision and topics of the Christian faith, and it is a time for your questions to be addressed. Although it is a prerequisite to becoming a member, the decision to join is yours when you are ready. New Member Sunday includes a brunch at 9:30 and the reception at the 11am service.

Parenting With Love and LogicLove and Logic is a parenting strategy that puts parents back in control through alternative ways of communicating with their children. Love and Logic allows parents to be happier, empowered and more skilled in their interaction with their children.A one-day class will be offered with Love and Logic coach Liann Smith; lunch and childcare will be available. There will also be 2-3 follow up discussion groups with parents in the weeks following the class to help encourage each other and reinforce concepts that were taught. Staying in Your Own Hula HoopEver try to instruct someone in the proper technique of operating a hula hoop while concentrating on keeping your own twirling? What starts out as fun becomes frustrating. Trying to control anyone’s life but our own is a lot like the hula hoop lesson - ineffective at least, destructive at most. Scripture reminds us over and over that God is the one in control. When we step in to help him out, we get in the way of God’s plan for us and others. Executive Leadership TeamThe ELT is the formal link between the congregation and the Senior Pastor. The function of this team is to think ahead about where God is leading St. Luke’s and to carry out all policies and procedures put in our constitution and bylaws. Lay Ministry TeamThe purpose of the Lay Ministry Team is to provide care and support to people at St. Luke’s. Outreach Pastor Call TeamAs a church we are seeking to call a Pastor of Outreach. The Call Team will research and interview prospective candidates with guidance from Pastor Chris and our NW District President. St. Luke’s Foundation & Legacy DevelopmentThis group is working to develop a plan in which to directly link the financial sustainability of the church with its long-term ministry vision. Such development will include building a legacy foundation to educate members of St Luke’s on how they can financially support the ministry through legacy gifts.

10 For the WorldThis advisory team makes recommendations in partnering with organizations and missionaries through financial support. Our congregation gives to the church, and we decide how to bless organizations/missionaries with 10% of that total giving. We give to both local and global organizations that do humanitarian or faith building work. We meet as needed but require some reading and preparation.

Bronx Mission TripThe Bronx Trip is the main Ignite event for the 11th grade. Since the 11th grade year focuses on “witness,” we’ve planned a trip that takes youth out of their comfort zone and gives them the opportunity to be witnesses of their faith. We also want the youth to experience a completely different context for ministry. The urban context of the Bronx, NY gives us these opportunities. The team will be hosted by Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church under the direction of Pastor Matt Gonzalez. The students will learn about street ministry and also help the church run a Vacation Bible School for the neighborhood. Information and applications will be available in the church office in March.

Camp PrimetimeLooking for an opportunity to serve as a family? Handy with tools? Love leading campfire songs? Camp Prime Time, located in the Wenatchee National Forest, provides FREE camping weekends for children and adults with severe or life-threatening illnesses or disabilities and their families. There are three ways to serve with us. 1. Teams of families work for a weekend in the fall to run camp, cook, clean, and play with the campers and their families. This mission is for families who want to assist while modeling to their kids the value of serving others and sharing God’s love. The purpose of this trip is to serve. It is not an evangelism-focused trip. Dates: September 12-14. 2. Camp Prime Time needs volunteers each spring and fall for cleanup.3. Campfire sing-along leaders are needed to lead musictime each Saturday evening during the summer months.

Centro D’Amistad Church PartershipSt Luke’s partners with Centro D’Amistad Christiano, a small Latino church, that reaches out to the Latino population in Federal Way. We provide a space for worship, study and fellowship. It is our desire to move beyond facility logistics, and dream about how God is leading us in joint ministry together. Join us if you have an interest in cross-cultural ministry and our Latino neighbors.

Elliott and Serena DerricksElliott and Serena Derricks are serving as LCMS missionaries. This past year, they have been working at two South Korean churches in the Seoul, South Korea area. They teach English classes, help with Bible studies, and support the congregations in any way needed. Federal Way Coalition Against TraffickingThe Federal Way Coalition Against Trafficking (FWCAT) is a grassroots community action team working in partnership with Washington Engage and supported by Women of Vision. GleanersThe Gleaners mission trip is a “first step” mission for Middle School students, where they can step outside of their own lives to serve the world in great ways. Each summer our middle schoolers travel to British Columbia to serve by chopping vegetables and making dried soups to be shipped around the world.

Hoonah Mission TripEach year a team of youth and adults travel to Hoonah, Alaska to provide vacation bible school, youth events, adult bible studies and assistance with construction projects.

Lutheran World Relief Coffee ProjectThe Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Coffee Project supports small farmers who grow coffee in a fairly traded market. As they say in their brochure “The LWR Coffee Project ensures that more of the money you spend on coffee reaches the farmers who actually grow it. Fair trade coffee is a simple solution that means the difference -- quite literally -- between surviving and not surviving from small-scale coffee farmers.” Coffee will be sold once a quarter to support this ministry.

OktoberfestThe third annual Oktoberfest will take place on Saturday, October 11. This yearly fundraiser supports our ongoing partnership with Swaziland, our sponsored children and the mission team St Lukes will be sending to Swaziland in August of 2015. Support the Wukasches!Dave and Debbie Wukasch serve on medical mission teams all over the world and are part of our St. Luke’s family. We support them by gathering the following items on an ongoing basis: *iron pills, adult vitamins and prenatal vitamins, children’s vitamins, infant vitamin drops, non-liquid antacids, 1% Hydrocortisone cream (Dollar store), Athlete’s foot cream (Dollar store), reading glasses, hotel soaps and shampoos, toothbrushes, soccer balls, crayons (even gently used), coloring books, and stickers!

Swaziland Child Sponsorship TeamThis L-Team is dedicated to keeping our St. Luke’s family focused in both prayer and action towards our congregation’s sponsored children in Swaziland. We will encourage new sponsorship, organize periodic child sponsorship events at church, facilitate opportunities for correspondence between our members and the children in the Mahlalini ADP, and liaise with the World Vision office here in Federal Way.

Swaziland Mission TripAs part of St. Luke’s ongoing partnership with World Vision we send teams to the ADP we support, Mahlalini in Swaziland. These teams have the opportunity to witness first-hand the powerful work God is doing in Africa and to continue to strengthen our church’s relationship with World Vision and the people of Mahlalini.

BAG Weekend Feeding ProgramThis fall, as part of our ongoing partnership with Mirror Lake Elementary School and thanks to a generous grant from the St Lukes Foundation, we will be launching the BAG (Bridging A Gap) Weekend Feeding Program. We will work with counselors at Mirror Lake to identify students in need. The kid-friendly, easy to prepare food is packed each week by volunteers, placed in individual backpacks and sent home with students over the weekend. On Monday, the backpacks are returned and refilled. The program runs from September-June. We need volunteers to help pack food, keep inventory, shop and many other tasks. We also need donations of food items to be placed in the backpacks.

Bookstore ClerkBookstore volunteers work behind the counter, sell merchandise, check out DVDs and videos, take inventory, process and rotate merchandise, decorate and display. Clerks are scheduled on a 3-month rotation.

Braille MinistriesWhat a blessing it is to have the gift of sight! We take so much for granted—from reading our email to texting on our cell phones, to reading books and our Bibles. The Braille teams put together books of the Bible to enable those without sight to read God’s Word.

Care of Palm Plants & Garden AreaDo you have a green thumb and/or a hankering to feel like you’re in the tropics? We have a garden and some palm plants that need your help! Team members work in two-month cycles to keep our garden beautiful and tidy. They also care for the palm plants that are used to decorate on Palm Sunday and Easter.

Kids For Christ VolunteersKids for Christ is a monthly activity night for 4th–6th graders. Volunteers with a heart to play with the kids are needed to provide meals, set up and clean up after activities as well as help plan and run activities, crafts, games and other wild and crazy things for the kids.

Prayer MailPrayer Mail is an opportunity to serve St. Luke’s congregation through the ministry of prayer in the privacy of your own home. With today’s hectic schedule, it is vital that we uphold God’s call to prayer. Through your prayers and generous offering of your time (and perhaps postage), our entire congregation will be touched by the Holy Spirit through a Prayer Mail Post Card. Each card will be individually prayed over with regards to the specific needs as directed by the Holy Spirit as you pray. You will receive a packet with pre-addressed labels and post-cards. Alieis“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Alieis means “fishers.” Alieis is a brotherhood of guys grades 10-12 and spiritual leaders who take seriously the calling of God to be “fishers of men.” Our goal is to make “men of God out of the children of God” by giving them the tools necessary to carry out their calling.

Boy ScoutsOn my honor I will do my best… The first words of the Boy Scout oath clearly defines what it’s all about. Build character, learn outdoor and camping skills and develop into a leader. Boys, 11-18 years of age, experience awesome activities such as caving, sailing, summer camps, and more.

CharisCharis (Greek for Grace) is a sisterhood for 10th - 12th grade girls, created for teen girls to draw closer to God. We submit our lives to Christ and commit to providing support, encouragement, accountability, challenge and connection for our young women and female leaders.

FutsalFutsal is similar to indoor soccer. We play with a special low bounce ball (futsal ball) and small goals. We generally have skilled players, but beginners are also welcome.

Ignite ConfirmationConfirmation is an opportunity for students in 9th grade or older to make a personal confession of Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. In preparation for their confirmation, students are taught the truths and habits of the Christian faith. On Confirmation Sunday students will take responsibility for their faith and the church—committing to Christ what is already His through Baptism—their lives.

Light it Up! High SchoolLight It Up! High School is a Tuesday night hangout for all 9th-12th graders. Enjoy games, relevant study and powerful worship. Light It Up! makes connections to other youth and to our Savior who wants to draw us closer to Himself.

Youth LeadershipThis team is for adults, 20 years or older, with a heart to serve the youth with whatever gifts, talents and resources they have. We meet for training and planning once a month. A WA State Patrol background check is required.
