Times photo by Donita Clausen Leona Fern Trueblood April 28, 1914 - May 24, 2007 Leona Fern Trueblood, age 93, died Thurs- day, May 24, 2007, at her home in Pratt, Kan. She was born April 28, 1914, in Bird City, the daugh- ter of the late Theodore and Taletta (Wiegers) Niehaus. She graduated from Bird City High School and received her bachelor of science degree in edu- cation and master’s degree in edu- cation from Emporia State Uni- versity. She taught elementary school for 30 years, beginning her teaching career in a one-room school house near Bird City. She retired from the Ulysses school district in 1979. She was a member of the Re- tired Teachers Association. She is survived by one daugh- ter, Verneene and husband, Norman Forrsberg of Pratt; three sons, Verlyn and wife, Delores Trueblood of Concordia; Lindal and wife, Jerry Trueblood of Raymore, Mo.; Troy Trueblood of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Dale Niehaus of Breckenridge, Mo.; 12 grandchil- dren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son at birth, Raephel Trueblood; a granddaughter, Rhonda Trueblood; two sisters, Dorothy Niehaus and Evelyn Goodale; and three brothers, Whitey, Ted and Lindy Niehaus. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held May 29 at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, with John Hamm presiding. Memorial donations may be made to South Wind Hospice in care of the mortuary. Condo- lences may be left at www.larrisonmortuary.com. Joe E. Horner Dec. 18, 1919 - May 17, 2007 Joe E. Horner, 87, died Thurs- day, May 17, 2007, in the Reha- bilitation and Care Center of Os- wego, Kan. He was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Geary County to Leonard H. and Margaret (Erickson) Horner. He grew up on the family farm, graduating from Dickinson County High School at Chapman. He was part of the World War II effort by building the Army am- munition plants at Parsons and Hutchinson, finally with the Army Corp of Engineers in Fort Riley. He was city manager of Belleville, was rural electric man- ager of northwest Kansas in Bird City, and public power district manager at McCook, Neb. Fol- lowing a dream he bought a fish- ing resort on Lake Conway, Ark., in 1969, which he operated for two years and finished his work- ing career with several years em- ployment with Montgomery County in Independence before retiring in Oswego. Mr. Horner was a charter mem- ber of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, McCook. He and his wife, Marie Robinson celebrated 64 years of marriage on July 11, 2006. She survives of the home. Other survivors include their children, Judy Roessler of Os- wego, Sharon Frazier and her fi- ancee, Steve Clark of McCook, Karen Kroeger and her husband, Lyle of Lincoln, Neb., Kim Horner and his wife, Mary of Springfield, Mo., Susan Wilkinson and Isaac Lopez of Las Cruces, N.M., and Peggy Young and her husband, Bob of Bartlesville, Okla.; 11 grandchil- dren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maxine Marston of Junc- tion City. His parents, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life was held at the Oswego Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 22, with the Rev. Leona FernTrueblood, age93, died Thurs-day, May 24,2007, at herhome in Pratt,Kan. She wasborn April 28,1914, in BirdCity, the daugh-ter of the lateTheodore andTaletta (Wiegers) Niehaus.

She graduated from Bird CityHigh School and received herbachelor of science degree in edu-cation and master’s degree in edu-cation from Emporia State Uni-versity. She taught elementaryschool for 30 years, beginning herteaching career in a one-roomschool house near Bird City. Sheretired from the Ulysses schooldistrict in 1979.

She was a member of the Re-tired Teachers Association.

She is survived by one daugh-ter, Verneene and husband,Norman Forrsberg of Pratt; threesons, Verlyn and wife, DeloresTrueblood of Concordia; Lindaland wife, Jerry Trueblood ofRaymore, Mo.; Troy Trueblood ofColorado Springs, Colo.; onebrother, Dale Niehaus ofBreckenridge, Mo.; 12 grandchil-dren, 19 great-grandchildren andtwo great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by ason at birth, Raephel Trueblood;a granddaughter, RhondaTrueblood; two sisters, DorothyNiehaus and Evelyn Goodale; andthree brothers, Whitey, Ted andLindy Niehaus.

Cremation has taken place anda memorial service was held May29 at Larrison Mortuary, 300Country Club Road, Pratt, with

John Hamm presiding.Memorial donations may be

Joe E. HornerDec. 18, 1919 - May 17, 2007Joe E. Horner, 87, died Thurs-

day, May 17, 2007, in the Reha-bilitation and Care Center of Os-wego, Kan.

He was born Dec. 18, 1919, inGeary County to Leonard H. and

Margaret (Erickson) Horner. Hegrew up on the family farm,graduating from DickinsonCounty High School at Chapman.He was part of the World War IIeffort by building the Army am-munition plants at Parsons andHutchinson, finally with theArmy Corp of Engineers in FortRiley.

He was city manager ofBelleville, was rural electric man-ager of northwest Kansas in BirdCity, and public power districtmanager at McCook, Neb. Fol-lowing a dream he bought a fish-ing resort on Lake Conway, Ark.,in 1969, which he operated fortwo years and finished his work-ing career with several years em-ployment with MontgomeryCounty in Independence beforeretiring in Oswego.

Mr. Horner was a charter mem-ber of Our Savior’s LutheranChurch, McCook.

He and his wife, MarieRobinson celebrated 64 years ofmarriage on July 11, 2006. Shesurvives of the home.

Other survivors include theirchildren, Judy Roessler of Os-wego, Sharon Frazier and her fi-ancee, Steve Clark of McCook,Karen Kroeger and her husband,Lyle of Lincoln, Neb., KimHorner and his wife, Mary ofSpringfield, Mo., SusanWilkinson and Isaac Lopez of LasCruces, N.M., and Peggy Youngand her husband, Bob ofBartlesville, Okla.; 11 grandchil-dren; 19 great-grandchildren; anda sister, Maxine Marston of Junc-tion City.

His parents, two sisters and abrother preceded him in death.

Cremation has taken place anda celebration of his life was heldat the Oswego PresbyterianChurch on Tuesday, May 22, withthe Rev. Wayne Mason officiat-ing.
