The alleged illegal water connection as seen on 2 March.

This photo shows the spot where the alleged illegal water connection was made. The connection, covered with soil now, was right where a white, empty 5-litre plastic bottle can be seen. In the photo are Vho-Ruth Maraheni (first from right) and Ward 25 Cllr Masindi Rasimpi (third from right) with other members of the steering committee.

R35 000 fine for an illegal water connection

Seven pedestrians killed by speeding car

Region mourns death of famous musician

The Mintirho Business Enterprise, a construction company hired to build the new Midoroni Clinic, was given a R35 000 fine by the Kutama Tribal Authority for an alleged ille-gal water connection. The construc-tion company, however, reckons they have not done anything wrong.

Mr Clifford Mkhombo of Mintirho Business Enterprise said this week that they would not be paying the fine. “They are fining the wrong persons,” he said when Limpopo Mirror con-tacted him. “The subcontractor, SGS Civils, is responsible for all water issues on the site.”

Yet the steering committee for the Midoroni Clinic says that the Mint-irho Business Enterprise was given permission to make use of the bore-hole on the site. The company had been using this borehole up to three weeks ago when news of the illegal water connection became known. “This connection is illegal because whoever connected it did not consult with the community first,” said Ward 25 Cllr Masindi Rasimpi, a member of the steering committee.

When asked for comment, SGS Civils office administrator Mr Piet Themane said that he did not un-

derstand how their employees could make illegal water connections, since they had to consult with the community concerned for everything they do.

Further enquiries from the side of the site manag-er, Mr Nhlamulo Maringa, revealed that a member of the steering committee, Ruth Maraheni, and a non-member of the steering committee, Mavhungu Mahafha, had seemingly signed a letter wherein SGS Civils was given the go-ahead to connect the water. “I did not know that I was being led into a wrong direction,” was all Maraheni said before she hung up. Other steering committee members knew nothing about the letter, dated 2 November 2011.

It appears that the alleged illegal connection happened immediately after the signing of the letter, and the contents of the letter merely stated that the contractors had to be left to do their work in peace, without interference from any member from the community.

The spokesperson for the Vhembe Municipal-ity, Matodzi Ralushai, confirmed that officials from the Vhembe Municipality’s water section had disconnected the illegally connected pipes at the Midoroni Clinic. “Our investigations are still on-going,” said Ralushai.

The steering committee has decided to take copy of the “secret letter” to the Kutama Tribal Authority for the office to see what to do about the matter. Disciplinary action might be taken against steering committee members who are allegedly involved in signing the “secret letter”, says the steering committee.

(From page 1)Ravhanga’s youngest son,

Tsumbedzo (13), who could not be identified after the accident, was only identified by the family on Monday.

Ravhanga’s daughter, Lufuno Ravhanga (31), said her father might have seen his death coming as he started announcing prepara-tions for his burial months before he was killed. “My father had a premonition about his death. Last year, around December, he told me to use R1 500 from the proceeds of the burial society he was member of to secure burial rights at his own orchard, where his mother and brother are bur-ied,” she said.

She said her father also told other people on the day he died that in case of his death, his coffin should rest at the church which he headed before being taken to

the cemetery. She described her father as a

wonderful person who, despite his handicap, was able to provide for the family.

“With his one hand, he was able to do thatching that even able-bodied people could not do. We are vgreatly saddened by the way he and my brother died; they did not deserve to die this horrible way,” she said. Mr Ravhanga lost his right arm in 1956, when a crocodile attacked him in the Ngwedi River.

She said she was even more saddened by the way her brother had been killed. “His limbs were picked up piece by piece, which shows the severity of the impact and the speed the car was travel-ling. The whole incident has put us in a very difficult situation,” she added.

Well-known Venda musician

Elvis Mandisa, who stays not far from the scene, said he always complained about speeding in the area.

“We are greatly saddned that innocent lives had to be lost this way. We just hope the govern-ment will hear our plight and erect speed humps as motorists are speeding beyond the stipu-lated 60km per hour,” he said.

Tshaulu police spokesperson Capt Mbudzeni Tshabuse said they were investigating culpable homicide and reckless driving charges against the driver of the vehicle. The driver of the acci-dent car is under police guard at a local hospital.

Tshabuse could not confirm the drag racing allegations and whether the driver was licensed to drive but confirmed that it would form part of their inves-tigations.

The late Dalton Mbedzi.

The music fraternity in Limpopo has learnt with shock of the sudden passing away of well-known musician and engineer, Dalton Mbedzi.

Mbedzi, of Block G Thohoyandou, passed away on Monday afternoon after a short but unspecified illness.

Calvary Christian Church founder Dr Maxwell Masakona said the church was shaken to its core after learning of Mbedzi’s death. “It was so sudden. He fell ill only two weeks ago, and we had hoped that he would pull through,” said Masakona. He added that Mbedzi had been an asset to the church and had been instrumental in many of the church’s projects.

“He was a hard worker, who was dedicated to his work. He never complained when assisgned a task. This is a great loss to the church and the community,” he said.

Mbedzi was a well-known music producer, who worked with Rapson Rambuwani, Roxley Masevhe, Lawrence Mabasa, Mercy Masakona and members of Pure Magic. As a musician, he performed in many African countries.

During his time as a musician, Mbedzi scooped up several awards acknowledging his contributions to the community.

In his reaction after hearing of Mbedzi’s death, “Bishop” Roxley Masevhe, Vhembe District Music Forum’s chairperson and a long-time friend, said

his death had robbed the province and the local community of one of its best talents. “We shall always remember him as one of the finest sons. May his soul rest in peace,” said Masevhe.

A memorial service wil be held at the Calvary Chrisitian Church today (Friday). Mbedzi will be buried on Saturday.

Mayor Dzhombere appointed as MECThe executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Florence Dzhombere, has been appointed MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, following a cabinet reshuffle by Premier Cassel Mathale on Tuesday. Mathale reshuffled his cabinet on Tuesday, following the decision by the national government to place some of Limpopo’s departments under administration.

Dzhombere replaces Mr George Phadagi. The reshuffle also includes the replacement

of the MEC for the Department of Co-Operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Mr Soviet Lekganyane, who will now as-sume his responsibilities as provincial secretary of the ANC on a full-time basis. Lekganyane will be replaced by Mr Clifford Motsepe as MEC.

Confirming the reshuffle, the spokesperson for the Office of the Premier, Mr Phuthi Mosomane, said that the Limpopo Provincial Government was committed to its key priorities “that are geared towards enhancing service delivery and improving the lives of our people”.

“The premier extends his gratitude to the outgo-ing members of the executive council for the huge contribution that they made to the government. It is through their effort that we have been able to achieve what we achieved in the past 18 years. We wish them well into the future,” said Mosomane.

Dzhombere is the current deputy secretary of

The new MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, Ms Florence Dzhombere.

the ANC in the province and Vhembe region as well as the chairperson of the women’s league in the same region.

The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo hailed the reshuffling of Limpopo’s cabinet: “This reshuffle has to be Mathale’s last chance to demonstrate his seriousness about improving his government’s performance. We congratulate the new MECs and wish them well in their appoint-ments,” said the DA leader in Limpopo, Desiree van der Walt.

Van der Walt said the DA would continue to engage with the new MECs constructively to make sure that service delivery was improved for the people of Limpopo.

“Notably, we welcome the appointment of Clifford Motsepe as the new MEC for Corpora-tive Governance, Human Settlements and Tra-ditional Affairs. Having been the HOD of this best-performing department, he brings a lot of skills and his appointment will ensure continu-ity and stability within the department. Sadly, the very critical department for our learners, the Department of Education, continues under MEC Dickson Masemola,” she added.

The DA expressed hope that the Premier would have seized this opportunity to restore this depart-ment for the betterment of the province’s educa-tion system. “Obviously, in this case, political dynamics took precedence over the fact that our children deserve a chance in life through quality education. The sacking of both Joyce Mashamba and George Phagadi is most welcome,” she said.

“On the other hand, the removal of Dikeledi Magadzi as MEC for Health and Social Develop-ment is a concern for us, because we know her for her dedication and hard work. We hope that our people will continue to have the benefit of services in whatever new role she will be given,” she said.

Van der Walt cast doubts on the elevation of hardworking Vhembe Mayor Florence Dzhom-bere to the role of MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison. “It is an indisputable fact that Vhembe’s management is way below acceptable standards. The question that remains to be answered is what leadership record she supposedly brings to this new role?”

The full cabinet is: Dr Norman Mabasa (Health and Social Development), Pitsi Moloto (Roads and Transport), Pinkie Kekana (Eco-nomic Development, Environment & Tourism), Dickson Masemola (Education), Jacob Marule (Agriculture), David Masondo (Treasury), Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba (Sports, Arts and Culture), Flor-ence Dzhombere (Safety, Security and Liaison), Clifford Motsepe (Corporate Government, Hu-man Settlements and Traditional Affairs) and Thabitha Mohlala (Public Works).

Ramaremela´s Audi sedan was also set alight.

Angry Madombidzha burn down suspect’s house and vehicleAngry residents of Madombidzha Zone 2 burned down a house belonging to Mr Johannes Ramaremela, one of the suspects in the kidnap-ping case involving an 11-year-old boy. His house was burnt down last Thursday night, a few days after the case against the five suspects had been dropped by the director of public prosecution (DPP).

Mr Ramaremela was one of the five suspects originally accused by the State of kidnapping

Theophilus Tshivhi on 17 January this year. The boy's whereabouts are still unknown. The DPP cited a lack of evidence as the cause for not continu-ing with the prosecution. Ramaremela (69) and his traditional healer wife, Elizabeth (60), along with two sangomas, Ms Alilali Ndou (81) and Ntakuseni Ndou (32), as well as Mr Sello Tlhaoele, were ar-rested shortly after the boy had disappeared.

Last week, residents from the Madombidzha area decided to burn down Ramaremela's house

and his vehicle parked next to it. Their anger was apparently fuelled by the fact that Ramaremela had visited his house to collect his belongings. Some residents apparently told him not to set foot in the village ever again. When they realised he had returned, residents threw stones at the bakkie that had brought Ramaremela home to load his belong-ings. They also smashed the windows of the bakkie before setting Ramaremela's house and his car that was parked next to it alight. Although the old man

was injured during the incident, he managed to escape. The police were called to the scene, where they managed to disperse the angry members of the community. Eight com-munity members, includ-ing Ward 22's councillor, Mr David Davhana, were arrested following the incident.

The spokesperson for the Tshilwavhusiku po-lice, Mr Godwin Ma-huwa, confirmed that the police had opened two cases of arson and mali-cious damage to property. He said that the eight peo-ple who had been arrested were questioned and later released. According to Mahuwa, Davhana was arrested as he was also found at the scene.

Councillor Davhana could not be reached for comment this week. Our reporter was also unable to get comment from any of the five original suspects.

After a spate of housebreakings and house robberies in and around Malamulele area in the past few weeks, the police and members of the community joined hands and arrested 10 suspects allegedly responsible for crimes committed in the area.

Police spokesperson Lt-Col Ronel Otto said residents of villages in the Malamulele area were hard hit by criminals: “Dur-ing February, suspects entered homes any time of the day or night and robbed people of their household goods. Police and community members joined hands and together they increased visibility and patrols in the af-fected areas. They also followed up on information received from the community and this resulted

in the arrest of four suspects, who have already been linked to more than 10 incidents of house robbery in the Malamule area,” said Otto. The suspects, Russel Baloyi (22), Tlangelani Chauke (22), Justice Sithole (22) and Mishack Shivambu (31), have already appeared in court twice. They are still in custody as bail had not been granted to them.

During the past weekend, more information was followed up and six more suspects were arrested for theft, housebreaking and house robberies. These suspects were found to be operating in the Malamulele and Thohoyandou areas, allegedly terrorising local villagers.

The suspects, Mike Ndou (22) from Dulubazimu (Zimbab-we), presently residing at Tam-

baulate, Happy Rwadza (19), from Maszwingo ( Zimbabwe ), presently residing at Dididi, a 16-year-old minor from Tam-baulate, Khathutshelo Ndou (18) from Tambaulate, Mabulannga Ramudzuli from Tambaulate and Victor Makamu (30) from Tambaulate all appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Stolen goods to the value of thousands of rand, as well as an unlicensed 9mm pistol, were recovered during the arrests.

The provincial commissioner of the South African Police Ser-vice in Limpopo, Lt Gen Simon Mpembe, applauded the good co-operation between the police and the public in their efforts to make their own communities a safer place.

Municipality decides to fix potholes following protest march

Commissioner applauds his troops

Millions to go towards animal welfare

Only a few weeks after the residents of Waterval had staged a service delivery march, protesting against the Makhado Municipality, the mu-nicipality has now decided to start fixing the potholes in the township.

The technical services workers surprised the residents last Friday, when they arrived in the township to fix the potholes. This came only three weeks after the residents had complained about the bad condition of the streets in the township. The

residents also complained about the lack of water supply in the area and that they want to be consulted during the selling of stands.

Makhado Municipality Mayor Cllr Mavhungu Luruli, who had joined the workers to fix the potholes, said that the municipal team that was working on those particular streets “was a bit slow. We decided that, as councillors and part of the management team, we must join the workers and assist them,” she added.

Luruli said that she had decided to

join the workers every Friday at their working sites.

“We have a programme to check what our workers are doing at various projects and, at the same time, take part ourselves,” she said.

She also mentioned that taking part in the programme also helped her understand the challenges that workers were faced with when per-forming their daily tasks. The move was also, according to her, to show the community that the municipality was committed to giving them sustain-

able service delivery. She appealed to motorists to be cooperative during the process.

Several members of the Water-val community who spoke to our reporter said that they were happy about the municipality’s move to fix the potholes.

“Our streets are in a very bad condition. Even though it took the municipality some time to attend to our problem, we are happy that, eventually, the pothole problem is being attended to.”

Animal welfare organisations are to receive a welcome boost of close to R30 million, follow-ing the death of a local animal lover at the end of last year.

The legendary Miss Betty No-akes died in November at the age of 98. Most of her estate was left to various animal welfare as well as charity organisations.

The Stonehenge property, overlooking the Soutpansberg Golf Club in Louis Trichardt, came under the hammer last Wednesday. This picturesque landmark is also a National Heritage Site. The auction, han-dled by Jack Klaff Auctioneers, drew a large number of bid-ders and close to 250 people turned up at the historical house. The auction of the property was the highlight of the day and the bidding only stopped at R3,55 mil-lion. The highest bidder was Mr Eddie da Silva from Louis Trichardt. There will now be a 14-day period during which other potential buyers can submit offers and Mr Da Silva will have the opportunity to match these offers.

Mr Jack Klaff, the auctioneer, was very satisfied with the out-come of the auction. The furniture and other valuables were sold for around R160 000 to various bidders.

The executor of the estate, Dr Suwil Ru-dolph, said that some

of the assets, such as the late Miss Noakes’s extensive book collection, were not on auction, as they believed that these col-lector’s pieces would reach better prices at a national auction. The collection will, in all probability, be sent off to a national auction company specialising in col-lectibles.

Dr Rudolph said that almost 95% of the estate had been left to organisations such as the SPCA, the Red Cross, the SA Guide Dog Society, Henley-on-Klip Animal Rescue and the Animal Anti-Cruelty League. Médicins Sans Frontieres and the Salva-tion Army also count among the

beneficiaries.Probably the biggest part of

the estate will go towards the Veterinary Faculty at the Uni-versity of Pretoria. This money is specifically earmarked for the promotion of animal welfare.

Ms Bea Reimer from the local branch of the SPCA was very grateful for the money that was left to them.

The local SPCA branch is to receive R1 million, which is to be put in trust. The interest of this money will assist the local branch to meet some of their monthly obligations in their quest to look after the region’s abandoned animals.

A reward is being offered by a farmer at the 3 Mile/Elim T-junction area south of Louis Trichardt, after the disappearance of his sheep ram at the end of last week. The farmer, Mr Rossie Bezuidenhout, says he will pay R2 000 to anybody who will return the ram or who can supply information leading to the arrest of whoever removed the sheep from his farm. Farmers in the particular area are being plagued by a spate of stock-thefts. Since the end of last year, several serious incidents of stock theft, involving sheep, goats and cattle, have taken place. One of Bezuidenhout’s neighbours also lost several goats last week. The thefts have been reported to the police. Anybody with information can call the investigator at 083 227 6841.

Scissors incident not racially motivated “We don’t want to create the impression that there are black people going around with scissors and stabbing everyone who is white.” These were the words of Soutpans-berg-North Circuit Man-ager of Education Dr Sampie Phaswana in reaction to a violent stabbing incident that took place at Eric Louw High School in Musina.

According to the school, the incident happened on the school grounds last Thursday, just as the school day was drawing to an end.

The 16-year-old André Park had to be hospitalized when a fellow student pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed him in his chest. The identity of the accused is known to the

newspaper but is being withheld due to the fact that he is a minor involved in a criminal case.

The 15-year-old student, who was charged with assault, was released into the custody of his parents and appeared in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

According to information supplied by the circuit office and the school governing body, the boys had had an argument earlier in the day. Afterwards, the boys continued the argument near the school exit.

Teachers who rushed to the scene applied first aid and rushed André to the Musina hos-pital, where he was stabilised. He had to receive further treat-ment at the Zoutpansberg Pri-vate Hospital. André’s mother,

ms. Kathleen Theunissen, told the Limpopo Mirror that their whole family had been extrem-ley traumitized by the matter. According to her, the scissors missed his heart and vital arter-ies by centimetres.

After the incident, the circuit office called on the public not to look at the matter as a racist attack. This follows reports that the circuit office received about parents of the school who are allegedly inciting students to rebel against the black students.

“The principal and her man-agement team should be given time and space to do their in-ternal investigations,” said Phaswana. He further con-firmed that the circuit office was in daily discussions with the school to ensure that the in-

vestigations remained on track. “Rules are there for everyone, and the law should take its course,” said Phaswana.

In the meantime, Andrè is recovering at home after he was released from hospi-tal on Saturday. He may also face criminal charges, depending on what further investiga-tions might reveal.

The other boy was allowed back to school after his court appear-ance and is, according to Phaswana, show-ing remorse for his actions. The 16-year-old André Park photographed in the Zoutpansberg Private

Mayor Mahosi supports griefstricken families Rhino poacher shot dead

R2000 fine for selling dagga

Thulamela mayor Cllr Grace Mahosi and members of the management team visited the griefstricken families of seven vitims of the road tragedy at Tshidzini on Sunday.

The entourage also included the head of the disaster management team at theThulamela Mu-nicipality, Mr Elias Chabalala.

The seven people lost their lives when the driver of one of the two cars, alleged to have been in an illegal drag race, lost control and ploughed into pedestrians. Most of the them attended a soccer match at the local sports field.

The incident, which shocked the peaceful vil-lage, also left four injured.

“We are here as government because we know that these are difficult times for the families. You cannot handle the situation on your own and we are here to offer our condolences. The incident has shaken the whole country and this is no longer a family tragedy,” Mahosi said. At each family’s home, prayers were offered and the families were told to put their trust in God. A 79-year-old suspected rhino poacher was shot dead at the Bubi Conservancy outside Beit Bridge during a shoot-out with game rang-ers, police have said.

Local police spokesperson C/Supt Lawrence Chinhengo said the incident occurred on Friday at around 17:00 at Taula Safari Ranch in the Bubi Conservancy, east of the border town.

“The man, who was armed with an AK47 rifle and in the company of a man who is still at large, had strayed onto the Bubi conservancy when they came into close contact with game rangers who were on an anti-poaching operation in the area, resulting in an exchange of fire,” he said.

The victim, identified as Motakela Mukosiku, was shot in the left col-larbone and died instantly. The other suspected poacher took the rifle and managed to flee from the scene.

Chinhengo said the game rangers later tried to trace the escaped sus-pected poacher, but failed to locate him. They then reported the matter to the police and the body was taken

to the Beit Bridge District Hospital mortuary.

Chinhengo said they had recovered a satchel, which contained 38 rounds of live ammunition, a torch, an axe, a kitchen knife, gloves, a pair of pli-ers, the dead man’s mobile phone, his national identify card and a bottle of gun oil.

Three spent cartridges were also found at the scene. Chinhengo said there were no casualties among the rangers. He said they had since launched a manhunt for the other suspect on the run.

“As police we continue to warn poachers against straying into pro-tected safari areas as they risk being killed and we believe this incident will also send a serious warning to would-be poachers,” he said.

Of late, there has been an increase in the number of poaching activities in the country, with rhinos being mostly targeted. Last week, two armed poachers were shot dead and a third injured in a shoot-out with game rangers in the Mkanga Safari Area outside Beit Bridge.

A resident of Tsianda appeared be-fore the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday, after he had been ar-rested by the Levubu police for al-legedly selling dagga to Mushonga Mavhungu High School pupils.

Mr Nkhangweleni Yingani was ar-rested last week after he was found in possession of dagga. Yingani pleaded guilty to the charge and was given a

R2 000 fine or three months imprison-ment sentence. He paid the fine and was released.

The spokesperson for the Levubu police, W/O Solly Mukhola, said that the police had curbed incidents of dagga dealing at the school. “We will be monitoring the school on a daily basis to ensure that it is a crime-free learning environment,” he said.

family home, griev-ing family members were overwhelmed and some collapsed during the visit.

The mayor also vis-ited the injured at Don-ald Fraser Hospital.

Meanwhile, funeral preparations are under-way and, according to local ward councillor, Cllr Tshimangadzo Malada, a task team has been established to oversee arrangements for the funeral. He said the victims would be buried during a mass funeral on Saturday (tomorrow).

Thulamela Mayor Grace Mahosi comforts Mr Daniel Rangani, the father of one of the victims.

MAKHADO CARE GROUP IS A NON PROFIT ORGANISATIONWHICH ASSISTS WITH THE CARE OF CANCER PATIENTS

Colon cancer is the rapid growth of abnormal cells in the large intestine and/or rectum. This type of cancer is usually found in people over 50 years of age. It is not often detected in the early stages, making it a common cause of cancer deaths.

CAUSES OF COLON CANCER:- The exact cause is not known, but most cases

seem to start as polyps (small growths inside the intestine or rectum).

- Colon polyps are common and do not always result in cancer.

- Smoking, a high-fat diet and family history of colon cancer are risk factors.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF COLON CANCER:- Early colon cancer very rarely causes symp-

toms.- Abdominal pain.- Bloody or very dark stools.- A change in bowel habits.- Fatigue and weight loss are two less common

and less specific symptoms.DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT:- Diagnosis is usually by doing a colonoscopy

where the Doctor can view the inside of the colon/rectum.

- Tissue taken during a colonoscopy is exam-ined by a laboratory to determine whether cancer cells are present.

- Treatment is dependant on the location and stage of the cancer but usually involves surgical removal of the tumour, chemotherapy and radiation.

PREVENTION- Regular screening tests e.g. occult blood test

on stool samples to detect the presence of blood, barium enema, viewing by sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.

- Screening tests should be done from the age of 50, but earlier if you have a family history of colon cancer.

- A healthy, low-fat diet.

Workshop to promote safe circumcisions

He knows the real meaning of suffering ...

With the winter season ap-proach, the Vhembe District and its various stakeholders are ready to promote safe cir-cumcisions.

Limpopo men’s forum Munna Ndi nnyi? (Who is a real man), in partnership with the Aids Foundation of South Africa, held a two-day workshop on male cir-cumcision. Various stakeholders and representatives from govern-ment departments debated with traditional surgeons at Muofhe Graceland outside Thohoyandou to find ways of promoting safe

circumcisions this season. “We want the Vhembe district to be regarded as a place where safe circumcision is practised. We can achieve accolades and success if traditional surgeons are well trained,” said the chairperson of Munna Ndi nnyi?, Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini.

According to Mufunwaini, his organisation wants traditional surgeons to work with doctors in the bush, so that the health of the initiates is looked after and to take care that diseases are not transferred between the initiates.

One of the traditional sur-geons in Vhembe, Mr. Mashudu Tshikororo, emphasised that circumcision was part of the Vhavenda’s custom and culture of promoting self-respect among the young people for their elders. Tshikororo also said that it had been discovered that circumcised men had a lower HIV/Aids in-fection rate than uncircumcised men. After the workshop, it was resolved that traditional surgeons must test be tested for HIV/Aids before conducting their ritual to avoid infecting the initiates.

At the age of 37, Joseph Kwin-da of Musina has already ex-perienced the real meaning of what suffering is all about.

Born healthy and full of dreams, the man’s wishes were crushed when he was attacked by a mysterious disease which keeps his right leg forming bulges.

A married unemployed father of four, Joseph’s agony started when he developed a small pim-ple between the toes of his right foot in 2000. The pimple grew bigger and more painful, making it impossible for him to sleep.

His once healthy body has now been reduced into a prison of pain as he keeps on scratching the leg, hoping that it will get better one day. The gaping sores on the toes keep on discharging water and this really makes his life a misery.

The whole leg has turned black and the infection is spreading towards his hips.

Speaking with dif-ficulty and in deep pain while holding a small towel to keep the flies away from the painful leg, the unemployed Joseph says he has done everything to have his leg cured, but to no avail. “I was very healthy until I was at-tacked by this illness. At first I thought I had a minor problem with my leg, but I became wor-ried when the pain did not stop. Throughout the years, I have tried dif-ferent kinds ofmedical assistance but my condi-

tion worsens from time to time.“I also consulted the clergy,

traditional healers and spiritual healers, but the leg never gets healed. While you spend your night sleeping peacefully, I spend mine weeping and scratching my painful leg while sitting on my bed all night long.”

He says some traditional heal-ers claim he is suffering from Tshipfula (some sort of cancer) and they demanded huge sums of money to treat him. “Although I am unemployed, I managed to raise the money and paid, but my condition has never improved. I now humbly request members of the community to come to my rescue because I need help before it is too late.”

He says he went to several hospitals, including the local one at Musina, and the doctors told him that he suffered from

elephantiasis, but the matter is very complex since it has other complications. “They don’t even know where to amputate the leg, because the infection is now moving towards upwards. I per-sonally don’t want my leg to be amputated, because I have hope that I will be healed one day. The doctors give me painkillers at times and order me to go home. I am tired of brooding in silence and I need people to help me, so that I can rise up and work for my family.”

Joseph was once a shop assis-tant in town and he had to give up his job because he could no longer walk to work. His unem-ployed wife, Esnath, takes care of him while all their children are at school.

Community members who would like to help Joseph can call him at 078 884 9084.

Shattered dreams … Joseph Kwinda (37) of Musina lives a life a misery after his right leg started forming bulges 10 years ago.

In an effort to encourage young people to focus on their studies, a traditional leader, Chief Nndweleni Mashamba, donated 30 computers to four primary schools in his area last Friday. He said that he had sourced the computers from the Nedbank Foundation to assist the schools. Mashamba was photographed handing over one of the computers to the principal of Tshitangule Primary, Mr Tshifhiwa Mmbubana (second from left), while Mr Mashamba Mashamba (left) and Mrs Martha Mashamba (right) looked on.

Swiss ambassador visits Elim Hospital

Safe bombed at filling station in Kutama

25 Years in jail for raping brother’s wifeThe Swiss ambassador to South Africa, Mr Christian Meuwly, visited the Elim Hos-pital last Friday, to check the infrastructure of the hospital, which his government had established in South Africa more than 100 years ago.

Meuwly said that there was a possibility for his government and the Limpopo government to work together to improve the health facility. “Even though there is a possibility that we can renovate the hospital, it is still too early to tell as I have to report back to Switzerland about the hospital,” said Meuwly.

He added that he was excited to see the professionalism in the running of the hospital. He ex-pressed his happiness about the good partnership between his government and the Limpopo government.

He was visibly excited when visiting the Swiss Mission Church that is still being used at the hospital. Church services

are still held by medical practi-tioners at the church.

The Elim Hospital was first established by a Swiss mis-sionary, Dr Georges-Louis Liengme, in 1899.

Meuwly also highlighted that there was a need for the training of more doctors and nurses at the hospital. The hospital has always been well known for the good reputation of its op-tometry division. People from neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe and Mozambique used to visit the hospital for eye treatment. The ambassador also visited the museum, where some of the old medical instru-ments used by missionaries are displayed. It also relates the history of the Swiss missionar-ies, the Anglo-Boer War and the local Chief, Njhaka-Njhaka, who leased the land to the mis-sionaries.

The missionaries brought the Christian religion to the people of Njhaka-Njhaka, and churches

and schools were built for the community. This was the time when Lemana College of Edu-cation was established.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the hospital board at the hospital, Mr Brighton Tlakula, expressed his appreciation to ambassador Meuwly for his visit. “We thank the Swiss mis-sionaries for bringing religion and the church to the Tsonga-speaking people. They also built a hospital for the community. As a small community, we cannot give Switzerland the support that it has given us.”

Elim hospital has now been declared a national monument since it celebrated its 100th birthday.

The graves of the missionar-ies, Anglo-boer commando members and veterans of the Second World War are found within the vicinity of the hos-pital and the surrounding areas. The hospital currently has 40 doctors. The Tshilwavhusiku police are

investigating a case of burglary and the use of explosives, after thieves broke into the Kutama Filling Station in Maebane on Saturday night (3rd).

According to a police state-ment, thieves entered the filling station through a hole which they had cut in the roof. They disconnected the alarm and used explosives to blast open a money safe. No money was found inside the safe, but the overall damage is estimated at R8 000.

When Limpopo Mir-ror visited the filling station, fruit-and-snack stall owners and their clients around the filling station were discussing the case. Vho-Shonisani Rambuda, an attendant at the filling station, expressed her disap-pointment at what had

happened to her workplace. “Mindless people broke into this filling station,” she said. “It’s shameful. We’re helping people access fuel right here in the area, as this cuts short the distance of refilling in the town. But it seems some people are ignorant of that.”

Rambuda added that, before they left the place, thieves picked up things such as bottled oils and tea utensils and scattered them around after finding nothing in-side the safe. The spokesperson

for the Tshilwavhusiku police, Constable Musiwalo Mahuwa, says that people must know that when they damage and steal from a place like a filling station, they are only disadvantaging the whole community.

“Just imagine if this filling station was to close down as a result of crimes like these,” he points out. “Even visitors to our area might suffer as a result. As the police, we condemn this kind of behaviour.”

The MEC for Health and Social Development, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, welcomes the ambassador of Switzerland during his visit to Elim Hospital last Friday.

Vho-Shonisani Rambuda, an attendant at the Kutama Filling Station, expressed her disappointment at the act of burglary that took place at her workplace.

A 35-year-old Zimbabwean man was sentenced to an effec-tive 25 years in jail for raping his young brother’s wife.

The man, a resident of Zi-muto village outside Beit Bridge, pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape when he appeared before a local regional magistrate, Ms Ester Muremba. He was, how-ever, found guilty of the offence after a full trial and sentenced to 30 years on all four counts.

Five years were conditionally suspended for five years, leaving him with an effective 25 years to serve.

According to the prosecu-tion, the accused committed the offence when he had just been released from jail where he was serving time for another rape case. It was testified that on 22 November 2010, the man came

home drunk at around 02:00. He went to his brother’s hut and asked if the brother was there. He was told by his brother’s wife that her husband was away. He then demanded that the victim open the door under the guise that he wanted to take a hoe, which he wanted to use in the fields later in the morning. She then told him to wait until she had dressed her-self, but the man forced the door open and entered the room. He subsequently dragged her to his hut, which was in the same yard, where he tied up her legs and raped her four times, threatening to stab her with a kitchen knife.

He was later tracked down by the police and arrested.

In a related case, another 20-year-old local man was sen-tenced to an effective nine years for raping his paternal uncle’s

four-year-old daughter. The man, who is from the same village, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to a rape charge when he appeared before the same magistrate. The court heard that on 16 February this year, the accused was left to look after the child while her parents went to another village. At around 12:00, he lifted the girl onto his lap and unzipped his trousers before removing the victim’s panties. He then raped the girl once. When the victim’s parents came back later in the evening, she told them of what had transpired and a report was made to the police, leading to the accused man’s arrest.

The girl was taken to the doc-tor for a medical examination and a medical report proved that she had indeed been raped.

A 61-year-old man from Nqama vil-lage outside Beit Bridge was killed, allegedly by three men, who then sliced off some of his body parts and dumped him on a mountain in what is suspected to be a ritual murder, police have said.

The local police spokesperson, Sgt Loveness Mangena, said the incident occurred on Sunday at around 19:00 at Nqama village. The body was found at Ndlome Mountain with the ears and eyes missing, and the suspects had allegedly also skinned the head. The deceased was identified as Kara Sibanda of Nqama village in Esigodini. The suspects are believed to have fled to South Africa and police have since launched a manhunt. “Our preliminary investigations indicate that on the day, the suspects, Muk-hokheli Ncube (30), Mhlanguli Ncube (33) and Jabulani Ndlovu, whose age is not known, went to the victim’s homestead, looking for his son. “On arrival, they found Sibanda and his wife. The person they were looking for, however, was not there. They waited for the son to return home,”

she said. Mangena said while they were waiting for the victim’s son to arrive, the trio started drinking beer, together with Sibanda.

“They then enticed Sibanda to accompany them to a local busi-ness centre, with the understanding that they would buy him more beer, and he agreed. Along the way, after walking for about a kilometre, the suspects allegedly pulled out knives and fatally stabbed Sibanda all over the body, after which they shaved his head before skinning it. They also allegedly removed his ears and eyes, and we suspect it could be for ritual purposes. We are still investigating,” Mangena said.

“The offence came to light when Sibanda did not return home, prompt-ing his wife to become suspicious. She then alerted other villagers. The body was discovered two days later by a local villager who was looking for firewood in the bush and the mat-ter was reported to us,” Mangena said.

The body was taken to a local hospital mortuary, pending a post-mortem.

Thandi Tshisikhawe of Louis Trichardt Primary School drew applause from the audience when she performed at the school’s Summer Concert on 29 February.

Photographed are some of the 30 pupils who received school uniforms from the Mapungubwe Home-Based Care Centre at Ha-Mudimeli in the Nzhelele area last Thursday.

Ethiopian businessman injured in robbery

Suspected copper cable thieves in custody

An Ethiopian businessman was allegedly shot and injured during an armed robbery at Ha-Ramantsha village in the Sinthumule area last Saturday.

Mr Abra Bashera (45) was allegedly shot and injured by three unknown men, who went into his store and demanded money at gunpoint. Bashera

was allegedly shot in the right thigh. The spokesperson for the Tshilwavhusiku police,

Const Godwin Mahuwa, said that the incident happened shortly after 20:00, when three heavily armed suspects went into a local store and allegedly shot and injured the owner. “The suspects fired five rounds and then robbed the owner of the store of R5 000,” he said.

He added that two counts of attempted murder and business robbery had been opened with the police.

“The victim was rushed to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital. The police investigation is still continuing,” said Mahuwa.

A similar incident happened in the area in Octo-ber last year, where a 23-year-old man, Mr Eyakor Dawit, was shot and wounded during an armed robbery at the nearby Gogobole village. Nobody has been arrested following the incident.

The Levubu police have arrested three suspects who had allegedly been terrorising the Levubu community and the surrounding villages, steal-ing copper cables.

The suspects, Fhatuwani Makumbani (18), Ra-belani Ramuatho (19) and Israel Raphalalani (24) were arrested at the Tshakhuma fruit market last Tuesday. They were found in possession of two bags full of copper cables.

All three are residents of Tshisaulu village out-side Thohoyandou.

The Levubu police spokesperson, W/O Solly Mukhola, said that the police had re-ceived a tip-off from members of the com-munity about the three suspects. “Members of our highway patrol team followed the suspects, who then got onto a taxi that was coming from Thohoyandou’s direc-tion to Tshakhuma,” he said.

He added that the po-lice followed a taxi that stopped at the Tshakhu-ma fruit market, where they searched it and found suspected sto-len copper cables. “The suspects were still on board and were arrested immediately,” he said.

Mukhola said that a case of possession of

stolen property (copper cables) had been opened with the police. “Our investigations are still con-tinuing,” he added.

The suspects appeared in the Vuwani Magis-trate’s Court last Wednesday and the case was post-poned to 28 March. The three remain in custody.

Mukhola praised the members of the community for their continuous and good working relationship with the police.

New exciting release for veteran groupAfter disappearing from the music scene for more than 10 years, one of the oldest and most respected Venda traditional music veterans, Adziambei Band, has released a powerful album which has already sold more than 50 000 copies in two months.

The band received a hero’s welcome when they recently re-ceived the Calvary Community Empowerment Award from the Calvary Christian Church Inter-national in Lwamondo, outside Thohoyandou.

The Community Empower-ment Award is aimed at un-earthing the forgotten heroes in different fields of life. The main objective is to revive and install hope in those who, through self-less service, had transformed or empowered human life in one way or another. Among those who have received honorary

awards in the past are Deputy President Kgalema Mothlante, Min Collins Chabane, Lucas Radebe, Doctor Khumalo, Din-gaan Thobela, Ntambi Ravele (sports personalities), media guru Mathatha Tsedu, military veteran General Gabriel Ramu-shawana and actor Joe Mafela.

Adziambei Band was found-ed in 1982 by Maele Sirwali at the rural, mountainous village of Guyuni. He was later joined by his elder brother, Tshivhangwa-ho Raedani, as well as Johannes Kwinda and Sarah Masindi. They released their first album, Midzimu ya madimoni, in 1983. After releasing several success-ful albums, the band parted ways some time later, until they reunited late last year.

Their reunification led to the release of their massive album, Shango lo takala. Their hit song, Nwana o ngalangala, is

like a national anthem as it is played everywhere, including at parties, in taxis and all over the towns of Limpopo and parts of Gauteng. The song is receiv-ing massive airplay and it is so famous that even little children recite it with ease. Other famous songs on the album include Mbuyavhuhadzi, Ndi lilela muya and Mazioni.

One of the band members, Tshivhangwaho Raedani, says they are happy that people still love their music, despite such a long break. “We are very thankful for the award and this will inject more courage for us to work hard in promoting Tshivenda traditional music.” He says he hopes their latest release will put something on their tables although they still remain poor after falling prey to record companies throughout their 30-year music journey.

Members of the legendary Adziambei Band display their Calvary Community Award. They are, from left to right, Maele Sirwali, Johannes Kwinda, Sarah Masindi and Tshivhangwahi Raedani.

Eskom in Vhembe is urging the community to report the illegal connection of electricity and copper theft.

Spokesperson Thiofhi Ratshitanga said it was important for the community to report these illegal activities as they affected service delivery.

Addressing the community at Madifha, as part of Eskom’s public awareness campaign, Ratshitanga said that illegal connections could cause the death of innocent people.

“It also causes unnecessary overloading,” he added.

According to him, copper theft also causes unnecessary power shortages. “It is not good for our image as we cannot replace the stolen items immediately, due to budget constraints”.

Ratshitanga warned that one can be arrested and prosecuted for illegal connections and copper theft.

He hailed the community for reporting such il-legal activities and urged them to continue doing so.

Vhembe District Mayor Florence Dzhombere has lashed out at lazy councillors and officials.

Addressing a recent gathering during the Nation-al Water Week celebration held at Sheshe village outside Thohoyandou, Dzhombere said she was concerned that the function started late because of councillors and officials who arrived late.

“It is very disturbing that there are councillors who are not respecting the positions that they earned through votes from the people. They were elected by the same people they are undermining by neglecting their jobs. It is disturbing to see a councillor, who can use the excuse of not knowing where Sheshe is as the reason for arriving late. The same people do not get lost when they come for votes,” she added.

She mentioned that “these people are shaming the ANC, which put them into these seats through the votes of the people. This thing of neglecting your job is becoming a norm and it must come to an end,” she mentioned.

Speaking on behalf of Chief Muthuhathonwi Rammbuda, Solomon Nduvheni also apologised for arriving late. He also appealed to Dzhombere to help in speeding up the process of installing the new chief of Dzamba. The new chief will replace Mmbengeni Ramabulana, who has passed away in 2001.

Nduvheni also urged the mayor to provide a tar road for the community before 2014. During rainy days, the community of Dzamba gets isolated from other areas because of slippery roads, he added.

Stakeholders, which ranged from community organisations to prison officials and traditional leaders, recently gathered at the Thohoyandou Correctional Centre at Matatshe to witness the launch of Life After Prison Community Forum organisation. The organisation, which seeks to empower and look after the interests of ex-offenders, received support from all sectors. The traditional leader of Khubvi, Chief Thinawanga Randima, pledged a site at his village for the organisation.

Water shortage at Beit Bridge schoolA serious water shortage has hit Zezani High School outside Beit Bridge, following a power crisis in the area.

The electricity supply was disrupted after the main transformer was struck by strong winds that swept across the entire area last month. The latest development has also affected the water supply at a local police station and the local clinic as they largely rely on electricity-powered boreholes to pump water for daily use.

When Limpopo Mirror recently visited the area, several pupils could be seen scrambling for water at a communal borehole, while others were forced to fetch water from unpurified water sources such as the nearby Umzingwane River.

Zezani High School’s principal, Mr Ophiwani Ncube, said the lack of power at the area also compromised discipline at the boarding school. “The prevailing power crisis is really compromis-ing discipline at our school, largely because some naughty pupils are now taking advantage of the

darkness to sneak out of the school yard to com-mit miscellaneous offences. We also now have a problem of punctuality as pupils have to take turns to fetch water at a communal borehole, so that they can bath before attending lessons,” he said.

Ncube also expressed concern over fears that learners were likely to contract water-borne dis-eases, such as cholera and bilharzia, as most of them were going to the nearby Umzingwane River to bathe. “We are appealing to the relevant authorities to address this power problem as it also continues to increase the cost of running the school since we are forced to use the diesel-powered generator. In fact, we mobilized the local community and raised the money required by the power utility to ferry new electricity poles from Beit Bridge. Sadly, however, they are taking long to address the problem, and it’s almost a month now, despite the poles’ having been delivered to the site,” he said.

Several poles were felled by the hailstorm and some huts in the village were also destroyed by the

In an effort to improve the Grade R facilities at the school, Soutpansberg Primary held a fundraising event at the school last Friday. Pupils had to buy some tickets in order for them to participate in the activities of the day as part of the fundraising. Photographed enjoying themselves on the water worm were these Grade 6 pupils.

natural phenomenon. Local villagers told Limpopo Mirror that they were now forced to travel long distances to grinding mills in neigh-bouring villages such as Mpande and Tsham-nangana, due to the lack of power. Villagers also expressed concern over an acute shortage of transport in the area, saying most of the pub-lic transport operators were shunning the route, due to poor roads. Some of the bridges along the Beit Bridge-Zezani road which were destroyed by floods have not been repaired, making the area inaccessible.

This is the transformer that was struck by the hailstorm, resulting in a power crisis at Zezani High School.

The event, which is free for all, is to be

It is that time of the year where Flowerdew 174cc, with our strategic partners would like to once again invite you to participate in this year's Health Walk.

We still believe that the health and welfare practices of our rural communities are still of main concern due to lack of continuous education and guidance. Lack of information regarding good

Local Council Office to Muromani Medical Centre, annually to address the above concerns.

The walk will start at Tshiozwi Village at 06:00 and end at Muromani Medical

Mamu Community Sports Development, an initiative that organises soccer tournaments in the Sinthumule and Kutama area, has honoured the managing director of Postnet Musina, Mr Marubini Mapholi, with a token of appreciation. Mamu´s chairman, Mr Ndivhudzannyi Mukwevho (left), hands over a certificate to Mapholi (centre), while Mamu’s PRO, Mr Jafter Mamugudubi (right), looks on. Mapholi is sponsoring the tournament that is held during the Easter holidays every year.

Tshiozwi Dynamos restored their pride, by crushing the log leaders, Tshifhire Northern Brothers, 2-0 in their Safa Vhembe SAB League match at the Tshiozwi grounds on Saturday.

Brothers started the match purposefully and their first attack came as early as the eighth min-ute, when their top goal scorer, Edgar ”Ferare” Molewa, brought the best out of the Dynamos’ goalkeeper, Thendo Shivhishi, with a superb overhead kick. Mashudu Nengovhela of the home team was the culprit in the 15th minute when he headed a cross from Tshiginga Netshiendeulu over the bar.

In the second half, Dynamos’ technical staff revealed their wisdom, when they replaced Mashudu Nengovhela with Alugumi Mamu-gudubi.

The introduction of Mamugudubi was a clever move.

He combined well with Mpho Mavhandu and Matodzi Maruli at the forefront. Dynamos put matters beyond doubt when Mpho Mavhandu beat three defenders in a row, including the keeper, before he scored easily.

In the 80th minute, Matodzi released a rocket that was too hot for the Brothers’ keeper to handle, to make the score 2-0.

Black Leopards beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0 in a Nedbank Cup KO match at the Giyani Stadium on Saturday. (See a report on the main sports page). The man of the match, Rodney Ramagalela (right), is photographed with a team-mate, Luyolo Mapholisa. Ramagalela received a cheque of R5 000.

Mongezi Bobe scored the win-ner two minutes from time, to hand Black Leopards a vital 1-0 victory over SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership match at the Giyani Stadium on Tuesday (13/3) afternoon.

It took until the 18th minute for the game’s first real chance. SuperSport’s Franklyn Cale

Victory eases the relegation worries

Dynamos away to stop Royal ZuluAfter a break of three weeks, the affiliates for the National First Division will be back in action this weekend.

Dynamos must win their match in order to restore their lost pride. They lost their last two matches and a win will keep their hopes of taking part in the promotional play-offs at the end of the season alive.

The pride of Giyani will un-dertake a journey to Richards Bay to lock horns with Thanda Royal Zulu tomorrow afternoon. Although Dynamos desparately need the three points at stake, it will not be easy for them to grab even one. Royal Zulu are one of the close contenders for the league title. In the other NFD matches of the weekend, FC

Cape Town will host Bay United; African Warriors will pay a visit to Atlie FC; Mpumalanga Black Aces will play against Chippa United; log leaders Amatuks will entertain Witbank Spurs; Vasco da Gama and Blackburn Rovers will meet; Carara Kicks will host United FC and Sevutsa Stars and FC AK will fight for points in Nelspruit.

Nobela’s dribbling wizard, Cebo Masena. Nobela’s central defender, Rine Phaswana.

The Malamulele Stadium is expected to be packed to capacity tomorrow afternoon. That is where a long-awaited double-header will be staged.

Basel FC and the struggling Super Eagles FC will be the first to enter the field of play. From the look of things, this will be a difficult hurdle for Super Eagles. Basel have been in winning mode of late, while Super Eagles are fighting for survival at the bottom of the log. Super Eagles were recently wal-loped 0-10 by Winners Park, something that will remain fresh in their minds for years.

On the other hand, Basel has developed into a force to be reckoned with. The game will start at

13:00.The next match will be between Nobela All

Stars and Blue Rocks. Nobela will be fighting it without their central defender, Davney Honwani. He was given his marching orders during their game against Rospa United two weeks ago. In the absence of Honwani, Nobela will pin their hopes on Thembisani Nevhulamba, Cebo Masena and Rine Phaswana.

Phungo All Stars will also play at home. They will host Dinare FC at the Louis Trichardt Eltivilas ground. Winners Park will take on Rospa United at the Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane. Magezi FC will have a date with Mighty FC at the Seshego Stadium.

Giyani Hotspurs are set to make The Dolphins pay for the 1-2 defeat they suffered at the hands of Rospa last Saturday. Baroka FC will pay a visit to Fanang Diatla FC at the Lebowakgomo Stadium.

By Frank Mavhungu

Exciting double header at Malamulele

was fouled by Leop-ards’ Samuel Mabun-da. From the free kick, Cale hit a left-footed shot from outside the area which narrowly missed the target. In the 42nd minute, Leopards should have gone 1-0 up. Captain Mongezi Bobe crossed the ball from the left wing for Kingston Nkhatha, who had just come on mo-ments earlier as a sub-stitute, but the striker failed to capitalise from a great position when he headed the ball over the crossbar.

With six minutes left of regular time, Nkhatha could have put Leopards into the lead when, from the centre of the six-yard area, he missed

with a header that went wide to the right.

Another opportunity presented itself for Leopards two minutes later when Bobe missed a glori-ous chance inside the penalty area, seeing his weak shot go wide.

The missed chances were soon forgotten when Bobe received a

cross from the left and coolly slotted home from the centre of the box with his left foot to make it 1-0 for Leopards with two minutes left.

The win for Leopards puts pressure on Jomo Cosmos and will help them climb off the foot of the league standings, tempo-rarily at least. - BackpageTxt

Heavy fines were imposed on Safa Vhembe teams that were found guilty during the league's disciplinary committee meeting that was held in Thohoyandou last Friday night.

Rockers FC pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting the referee during the league match against Ramukhuba Young Brothers.

They were fined R5 000, of

which R2 500 was suspended. The points were awarded to Young Brothers. Matika were found guilty of causing the aban-donment of their match against Mailaskop Pull Together. They received a find of R2 000 and they also forfeited the league points.

United Artists failed to prove that Makovha All Stars had fielded an improperly registered

player in their match and All Stars received the league points. Gaba Union Fighters caused the abandonment of their match against Mukula Young Santos and the points were awarded to Gaba.

The president of Safa Vhembe, Mr George Kubayi, said that they would finish all the outstanding cases before the prize-giving ceremony of the league prizes.

Mapanyi primary school's pupils will now also be able to connect to the rest of the world through the Internet. This comes after the South African Revenue Services (SARS) donated 20 computers to the school two weeks ago. As if this was not enough, the World of Life Ministries International also donated seven computers to the school, barely a week after the Polokwane-based Knowledge Resources had donated four computers to the same school. "This really shows that God has answered our prayers. The donated computers will create an opportunity for our pupils to learn computers from an early age," said the acting principal of the school, Mr Khathutshelo Mukwevho. In the photo, Maphanyi Primary School's SGB chairperson, Mr Risimati Chauke (left), receives one of the new computers from pastor Noel Sithole (right), while pastor Riranzu Sithole and the acting principal of the school, Mr Khathutshelo Mukwevho, are looking on from the back.

Gogobole Bucs and Ravele Dragons in 1-1 draw

Members of Correctional Services from all over the country who took part in the recent Endurance Walk visited the Thohoyandou Children´s Home last week. They played with the children and presented them with gifts and groceries.

The Limpopo Dairy league match between Gogobole Bucs and Ravele Black Dragons ended in 1-all draw at Gogobole on Sunday.

Although two play-ers of the home team went into the referee’s book in the opening minutes, Bucs continued to fight as an organised team. The visiting side came close to scoring in the 17th minute. Benny Nyama shot wide, with only the keeper to beat.

Bucs started to cool the ball in the middle of the park and they con-tinued to mount pressure on the defence of the visitors. They were the first to draw blood. In the 36th minute, Tshi-momo Mbambu blasted in a loose ball, after a scramble within the box. The match was stopped for about 10 minutes, after Bucs alleged that Dragons had fielded an over-age player instead of fielding an U/19 play-

er. Dragons replaced Dakalo Mukhavhuli with Caiven Mohloding later in the game. That proved to be a clever move on the part of the Dragons’ technical side. Their

long-awaited equaliser came in the 74th minute. Azwindini Mungoni dribbled past two defenders in a row and beat the Bucs keeper, Khongelani Baloyi.

The team officials and players argued with the referee. Bucs alleged that Dragons fielded an over-age player.

Benny Nyama controls the ball.

Black Leopards must collect maximum league points on Sunday if they are really serious about escaping the relegation axe at the end of the season. They will host Platinum Stars at the Giyani Stadium.

Both Platinum Stars and Lidoda Duvha are fight-ing for survival.

Leopards' chairman, Mr David Thidiela, is ada-mant that his team will not be relegated at the end of the season. He assured the team’s supporters that the team will be out of danger before long.

Leopards will have nobody to blame if they lose the match. Things are moving from bad to worse in the Stars’ camp. They recently suspended the team’s head coach, Mr Owen da Gama, following a string of poor results. It will be time for the former Leopards midfielder, Robert Ngambi, to show his former employers that they committed suicide by releasing him early this season.

Leopards and Platinum Stars played to a 2-2 draw in their first-round league match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg six months ago. Leopards’ fast forward, Rodney Ramagalela, is likely to pass a late fitness test and form part of the starting lineup on Sunday. Ramagalela sustained an ankle injury in their game against Blackburn Rov-ers at the Giyani Stadium last Saturday evening.

The other PSL match that will also be played on Sunday will be between Bloemfontein Celtic and Santos. The six matches that will be played tomorrow afternoon are: Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits vs Free State Stars, Ajax Cape Town vs Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows vs Maritzburg United, Moroka Swallows vs Amazulu and Supersport United vs Jomo Cosmos.

Leopards prey on RoversBlack Leopards booked a place in the last-16 stage of the Nedbank Cup by beating Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at the Giyani Stadium on Saturday evening.

Realising that the hosts were first to the ball, Rovers started to display their rough skills in a bid to frustrate them. The Cape Town referee, Mr Daniel Volgraaf, calmed the situation by flashing the first yellow card to Siyabonga Zulu in the 14th minute.

Leopards did not lose their fighting spirit, despite their op-ponents’ dirty tricks. They scored their opening goal in the 35th minute. It was their bulldozer striker, Rodney Ramagalela, who made it happen. He dispos-sessed a defender of Rovers, Linda Shiba, and moved few steps towards the goalie before unleashing a groundcutter that was too hot for the Rovers keeper, Bafana Nhlapo, to handle.

Ramagalela came close to scoring again four minutes before the half-time whistle. This time round, he caused an upset by shooting wide from inside the box. Itumeleng Duiker of Lidoda Duvha was cautioned with a card, following a late tackle on Curtis Dos Santos. Rodney Ramagalela, who was nominated the Man of the Match, was later replaced with David Zulu after sustaining an injury to the ankle.

Leopards increased the margin through Luyolo Mapholisa. He sent in a rocket, following a neat pass by Vincent Xakane

in the 78th minute. The Leopards’ keeper, Postnet Omony, executed a brilliant save in the dying minutes of the game.
