PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone, Welcome to 2020!
First, thanks to the new officers who have agreed to serve for 2020. You unanimously voted in
the slate of candidates at the short business meeting at our Holiday Party. I will continue as
President for another year; however, I am actively looking for someone to mentor to take over
as president next year. Patti Waterman will continue as Vice-President. She, too, is actively
looking for someone to mentor to take over next year. Debbie Nix agreed to be our Secretary
(she will still continue to work with Charlene on hospitality). Thanks to Rita Gerke who will
continue to be active in all the Daylily Show activities. John and Linda Poehlmann will take over
as joint treasurers. Having 2 people share an office is a great way to share tasks that may sound
overwhelming for one person. Several clubs in our region have joint officers who share
responsibilities. Please declare your interest in assisting any of the officers in their tasks.
Think about joining fellow Region 11 daylily lovers at the Winter Gathering in Independence,
MO, Feb. 14-16. We will be at the Drury Inn, a new venue for us. The main speaker will be Dan
Bachman from Valley of the Daylilies in Ohio. Many of us receive his e-mail offerings and see
his colorful adds in the ADS (American Daylily Society) Journal. There are over 100 offerings for
the auction, many of them brand new introductions. Also plan to spend the 4th of July in
Manhattan, KS at our Region 11 Summer meeting.
Your officers had a productive planning meeting scheduled for January 19 so we will give you
more information about all the fun activities planned for 2020 at our Feb. 9th meeting. See you
then.
Carol Schultz
CMDC President
Membership Renewal Reminder
Attention all members! It is time to collect annual CMHS dues. Please plan to bring your
payment in a check made out to CMHS or CMDC to the Feb 9 meeting. Dues are $15 for
Individual membership, and $20 for family membership, for the calendar year 2020. If you are
able to attend the meetings, you may mail them to Linda & John Poehlmann, 8303 W Hwy 40,
Columbia, MO 65202. Dues were delinquent as of Jan. 1, so please renew now. Thank you!!
February Meeting Speaker
Our program for the February meeting will feature the hybridizers of CMDC. I have attempted
to contact those members I am aware of who enjoy “painting with pollen”. However, if I have
missed anyone, please consider yourself as part of the program and bring some pictures of your
beauties on a flash drive. Pictures of registrations and/or seedlings in evaluation are welcome
and encouraged.
I hope those who will be our audience enjoy this even half as much as we enjoy doing it!
Hope to see all of you there.
Patti Waterman, Vice President

Minutes CMHS Meeting, October 13, 2019
Program
Scott Keller, from Pick a Daylily Garden in Lincoln, Nebraska, gave an interesting program
showing us how he operates his daylily nursery. He highlighted soil preparation and his
rainwater barrel watering system. He has registered three daylilies to date, striving for
hardiness and good branching in his more northern, harsh climate. He distributed seeds from
his latest crosses, with the request that pictures be sent of the blooms. The CMDC has
purchased some of his introductions to use as door prizes in 2020.
Meeting
The meeting was called to order by President, Carol Schultz.
Minutes from the June, 2019 and October, 2018 meetings were approved as written. The
October 2018 minutes had not been recorded as approved. This was the meeting that the vote
was taken to change the club name to Central Missouri Daylily Club.

Julia Semon's Daylilies
Charlene Larkin reported that the couple who bought Julia's place is willing to let the CMDC
come to dig daylilies from the gardens. Charlene, Debbie Nix, and Dan Judy went out to inspect
the gardens and report that there are many beautiful plants left and that they will be very easy
to dig as the soil is well conditioned and free of weeds. The current owner is named Stephanie
and she is willing to wait until spring to have us dig right before our spring sale. Charlene
Larkin and Debbie Nix will continue to be our contacts with the new owners.
April 2020 Meeting
It was brought to the attention of the group that in 2020 our regular meeting time - the second
Sunday of April - is Easter Sunday. In light of the previous discussion, a motion was made and
6
seconded that we change our April 2020 meeting time to a time to be determined in April when
we would meet to dig daylilies at the Semon Garden. The motion passed. The date will be set
when the team and the new owners come to an agreement on a date for digging. The Spring
Farmer’s Market sale will be on May 9.
Motions
A motion was made and seconded to send a $300.00 donation to our ADS Region 11 MoKanOk
Editor's fund. This is in accordance with our policy to decide each October how much to donate
to our region. Motion carried.
A motion was made and seconded that we send a donation of $25 to the American
Hemerocallis Society/American Daylily Society in memory of Lois Calvin. Motion passed. Lois
was not a current member of CMDC but she had been for many years before she dropped her
membership last year/
Party Planners
Volunteers were recruited to organize our Holiday Party, December 1, 2019. Alice Havard,
Barbara Rothenberger, and Linda Poehlmann agreed to be the organizers. They will recruit help
as needed. The invitation will inform us whether and what type of gift exchange will take place.
2020 Officers
President, Carol Schultz announced that she is still recruiting officers to serve in 2020. John and
Linda Poehlmann agreed to be nominated as co-treasurers to fill that vacancy.
The Tankesley-Clarke daylilies that had been purchased at the auction were distributed to the
successful bidders. Members expressed their appreciation for the donation of these flowers.
Winners of the drawing for 2 more flowers from the Dan White Daylily collection were;
